Don’t Quit Your Blog! Just Tweak it.

Is Your Blog in A Rut? Don’t Your Quit Blog.

Blog, Successful Blog, Don't Quit Blog, Blogging, Methodical Approach, Social media, Statistics

No one told you that it would be a slow climb of grits, cramped fingers and the snail pace attention from your expected dream audience.

No one told you that finding fame or making money from blogging is not easy pickings and that there are many days the thrill would fizzle out faster than the time it took the ink of your words to dry.

No one told you when you started blogging, all awash with excitement and so much to say, that time might come when you find yourself writing terse sentences such as:

Sorry I haven’t posted for AGES, guys.

Don’t know what to say….blah, blah.

If you are contemplating tossing in your paddle and jumping out of the choppy waters of your blogging boat; I would say, halt!

As a matter of fact, according to online research, most bloggers struggle and 95% of bloggers give up and abandon their blogs within six months of starting.

They open a blog, post with enough enthusiasm to keep a steam engine running for a while, then they either find a niche and a particular way of expressing themselves, or they run out of steam, lose heart and walk away.

The highway of the huge worldwide web is dotted with blogs abandoned by their owners and sometimes, it gives one a reason to pause and ponder why.

  • A common reason beginner bloggers give up is because they become frustrated by the technical side of things. They find customizing their blogs tedious and coupled with other stress factors, they pack up their bags and leave the scene.
  • Following quickly behind this is the fast-moving, ever-evolving world of social media that requires tons of attention to grow and engage an audience.
  • The toll from trying to grow a blog in the sea of blogs is the number one reason why bloggers quit.
  • Running out of ideas on what to blog about, not knowing what to do about their blog and a hectic lifestyle add themselves to the steamy cocktail to make it more challenging.

Don’t Become A Statistic

We all want a successful blog, but the difference between success and failure lies in doing the needful to succeed.

Success in general, regardless of the area it is in life, requires dogged discipline and consistency. It requires applying the right strategies and sticking with it for the long haul. People don’t become successful by giving up too soon.

I know that there’s a huge difference between saying “be patient and keep going”, and the reality, but with a pragmatic approach, your blog can survive and thrive. It need not become a statistic.

Methodical Approach – read more here…

We all can do something about this!

The poisoning of minds takes effort and is propagated by people. I believe that part of fighting radicalism rests on all of us as a people.

We can help arrest these issues through constructive community and individual actions.

For instance, Social media platforms such as YouTube, FaceBook, Twitter etc can do more to stop the propagation of hateful, inciting religious messages targeted at recruiting people for hate and terrorist crimes.

This should be an act in the greater interest of humanity as part of their Community Social Responsibility.

Please do your part and share such message. Tweet it, FaceBook it…just share.  It’s up to us to act.

Together we are stronger.

#acttogetherforhumanity, #communityresponsibility, #stopradicalism, #togetherwearestronger, #Nice, #wecandothis

May Grace be upon Nice and its citizens.

Thank you.

Please Look!…Every day beautiful people # 66

*Photo deliberately blurred for privacy*

Yesterday, I had to get some bloodwork done at the hospital and despite not feeling my usual stellar self, my sense of observation did not leave me.

I watched the men in the photo walk past me, both scrolling through their phones and paying a little less attention to where they were headed.

Like a poorly written script, they missed the bold caution sign on the floor outlining the step down leading outside and the wheeled in chap took a bad tumble.

I presume he must have twisted something because his friend had to help him up, then got a wheelchair and brought him back inside.

The phone fascination is becoming a worrying trend.

I absolutely love this book of poems. My favorites are “Love Rations” (for those who love to give the silent treatment) and “Beggars Supper” (which definitely pulls at the heart strings). Two thumbs up!!

Out of the silent breath

A little too late…Friday fiction in five sentences.

He was so mad he couldn’t wait to teach both of them a lesson or twenty.

Furiously he swerved round the bend and simultaneously picked up his phone and took a second look at the incriminating picture.

In split seconds, he failed to see the puppy, the boy, and the mother…

Slammed brakes, screeching tires, a dogs yelp, the mixed cries of boy and mother as they watch their beloved Sandy struggle…

…The angry haze lifted from Tony’s eyes.

She is amazing at describing love and life in her poems. She creates such beautiful images with her words. Truly, she is a talented writer and I’m so excited to have her poetry book and to continue reading through it.

Out of the silent breath

Never leave me lonely

With words left unsaid

You walk away into the dark

Like a mist, that melts away.

365 Terrific Blogging Days Later…Hurrah!!

Blogging was an unknown concept. I had no concrete idea what it meant or where to start from. All I had was the desire to write beyond journalling in my diary. FaceBook had been my medium of sharing bits of my thoughts, which was a lot, but something about FaceBook just never settled well with me, so I didn’t share as much.

Backtrack to May 5th, 2015 after a friend encouraged me yet again to start blogging, I googled the word ‘blog’ and WordPress came up. I researched further and before I could say Hey! Presto my first post was published.

I started it afraid. My doubting part told me that since I wasn’t technically on-point I probably suck at it. I didn’t know what a good or bad blog was meant to look like. I didn’t know what ‘spam bots’ were. I had never bothered my life about SEO’s, didn’t know what it was and still don’t know exactly what that Greek word ‘search engine optimization,’ means in real terms. All I had and still have is the burning desire to write and to learn.

I wondered who in their right mind would bother to read what I wrote but after my initial trepidations and decision to leave the excuses, I decided to plod along knowing that I am writing for me.

Why am I back-tracking a bit, because, sincerely speaking, it truly amazes me to think that I started this blog from zero, knowing nothing, with no idea how to blog and what it would be like, to this point where I wonder why I took forever to get started?

Am I glad that I am here? Absolutely, yes.

I have made wonderful friends on this journey. My thoughts have grown exponentially. I’ve pushed myself beyond my comfort zone over and over again and without trying to sound too smart, I look back and say to myself ‘well done, you’ve not done badly, babe.

Just a quick view of my present circumstance as they also serve as a measure of growth online…

Out of the silent breath

Dance to your heart’s delight my African child, until echoes of your stamping feet, beating heart; bright eyes, smiling lips; and waving hands, resonates over and over like thunder claps, reverberating throughout the Universe.

Just dance.

I had a recent struggle with malicious attack on my blog that some of you know of and hopefully, when my load is just a little less in the next week or so, I will share the few steps that I followed and the mind-numbing number of emails between myself, google and WordPress before the situation was resolved.

However, I just received a so called email message above from Gmail and my sixth sense simply told me to verify the source, so my verification from WordPress engineers -see discussion thread below – confirms that it’s a phishing mail to harvest your details :/

acquelineobyikocha Hello good morning, this is an emergency please
Mahangu Hi there! What can I help you with?
Mahangu 🙂
jacquelineobyikocha Hello Mahangu
jacquelineobyikocha I just got a funny email alert telling me this

Mahangu Right. You didn’t click that link, did you?
jacquelineobyikocha I believe I did and it wanted me to enter my details and I didn’t
Mahangu Good thinking! That is a “phishing” email, and you can safely ignore it.
Mahangu Gmail, or WordPress.com, or any trustworthy source will never send you a form to enter your account info.
Mahangu They already have it, right? 🙂
jacquelineobyikocha Wow! Can you beat that!
jacquelineobyikocha Good to know. Thank you very much. I will educate some of my readers.
Mahangu Great! 🙂
Mahangu If you think you may have even half entered your account details there though, I would change your real account password.
Mahangu Just to be safe.
jacquelineobyikocha Thank you Mahangu. I just wanted to verify. Do have a good day/afternoon/night etc today
jacquelineobyikocha No I didn’t enter anything but I’ll still go ahead and change my password.

Be very mindful. Secure your passwords, make sure your anti-virus is up-to-date. They are really some malicious people out there.

Be bloggy safe.
