Midnight Motivations and Musings 21…

1456774489154Procrastination and evasion deprives us of so much and over time, when we weigh the time wasted debating on whether or not we should take a step, it accumulates to a tidy part of a lifetime.

Procrastination leaves us with so many, what if’s, had I known and should have’s which can be avoided, when we conscientiously take daily steps in living more purposeful and intentional lives.

We not super-human and are bound to falter now and again, but when our focus is targeted and meticulous, a falter will not send us completely off track.

In tying in evasiveness and forgiveness or kindness, some are far willing to cut the entire slack for themselves and granting every excuse under the Sun as lee-ways to dilly-dally, while they use an iron fist of expectation on others.

To lead, or impact on others, you must, yourself be an example worth emulating.

Leaping Along…personal

My new skipping rope. The previous one was a killer rope in it's past life.
My new skipping rope. The previous one was a killer rope in it’s past life.

So here I am seated in-between Sugoi and Umami, two Far East Urban Cuisine/Japanese and trying to decide what to eat as well as checking my mails when I see Colette’s challenge sent to me to leap and the Daily post prompt to leap as well, so I will kill two birds with one stone.

Don’t think that I am a food addict. A girl has to eat to keep the brain cells functional and aside from a bowl of porridge and currants this morning, this is a late lunch of my decision, veggie rice and teriyaki prawns.

I enjoy the drone of voices. It’s amazing when you keep silent and just listen to the cacophonous buzz around you. My thoughts takes me back to the beginning of the year and how far I am leaping along.

Thinking about leaping made start looking at people’s feet as they passed by, for silly reasons. No one was leaping out-rightly, just a scurry, a flinch, a waddle and a slow trot.

Where have I leaped to between Jan and now?

I tried to leap high, but feared that I would break a precious bone, so I just hopped along.

  • I just bought a new skipping rope, a few minutes ago. Very apt for leaping out of a month. I will obviously leap a lot in March.
The last one I had was used for drilling young recruits in its past life. It kept flogging the back of my legs *no jokes* when I didn’t skip high enough, that I had to ask myself if the punishment was worth the result?
  • So, I finally finished collating my poetry book and hopefully, by next week, I will seek professional assistance with editing and book cover. The plan is to have it out between March and April, so it’s right on track and I can tick the box for hopping along with my set target to have four of my published works out this year.

Yes, I know its a tall challenge, but I believe in setting a high bar for myself so that even if I fail to meet all, I fail forward by achieving a good percentage.

  • I hopped to a writer’s critic group and asides from parting with too many dirhams buying coffee and sandwich, watching people feel snazzy and writer-like with the interesting hair-dos and streaks of colours, and a huge dragon tattoo running from one shoulder into her bosom *I didn’t get to see the bosom* but the dragon did, and a lot of Shisha smoking all around, I really didn’t get much out of the experience, so I am quite doubtful that I will repeat the experience.
  • I dared to submit one of my stories for a competition. The results don’t come out till March, though in all honesty, I am not expecting anything, since the whole World, their wives, pet garter snakes, dogs and cats made an appearance. A cool cat is most likely going to win the prize. I did it to push myself out of my comfort zone and get over the jitters.
  • The weight hasn’t shifted downwards, but it hasn’t gone up thankfully.
  •  Blogging is coming along nicely 🙂

I am ruminating over my personal goals for March, so let me trundle along and get cracking.

So, who would like to leap off the board with me? A short note will do just fine

Colette, thank you for making me look and appreciate my steps.

The Winning Number…

Carl was tired to the bones and felt disgruntled about his job. It was mere drudgery with little pay.

The new foreman was also an ass who kept yelling at people.

He regretted dropping out of college and wished he could start all over. Girls and booze was a pastime that got old fast and with Sue pregnant with a second child. He worried.

Break time was a little reprieve, so he ambled over to the deli where the other men gathered for a quick lunch.

All eyes were glued to the excited TV presenter who called out the winning lottery numbers. Each man read his ticket hopefully.

Carl paid no mind. He had bought just one ticket for reasons he couldn’t explain.

The cashier exclaimed that the ticket had been sold in the deli.

Each man checked his stub again and he fumbled in the back pocket of his dirty jeans to find his.

The ground rushed to meet him in dead faint. He had the winning number.

Getting In Shape…

Every weekend we indulge happily, thanking God that it’s Friday, then Saturday and Sunday. We hop back on the cycle on Monday’s. It’s a vicious cycle. In reality we could all lose the extra weight we want to lose,  but the truth is that most people hate losing things. It makes them mad 🙂

Welcome to another week of running around like a hamster.

I watched the little lady struggle with her ball.

I bet the ball weighed more than she did, but she wouldn’t let anyone else get it 🙂

Midnight Motivations and Musings #20..

1455887357056[1]

There are times when all looks dim and bleak, but if we look hard enough, there is always a way, no matter how tight that way may appear.

At that point in time when we are passing through hellish moments, we don’t stop to wallow in it and in self-pity. We have to keep moving.

Even if our will power is flagging, look to someone’s own to latch on to. There is absolutely no shame in leaning on someone’s shoulder momentarily while you catch your breath if need be. People are sent into our lives at some points in time for reasons such as this.

The only shame is in giving up because you have the fear of being judged or you are too proud. The persons judgement is not your problem.

Your problem is in staying focused and getting out of the miry bog in which you are stuck in.

Know that even at the end of the darkest tunnel, there will always be found a sliver of light, and, yes the darkness will pass. For the only constant in life is change and no situation ever remains permanent.

Surviving your test allows you the opportunity to be a testimony to others and someone else’s leaning post at one point in time or the other.

Be patient as you strive and keep looking in the way of the light.

Be Free…VLOG

BE FREE

May I live
Unafraid to breathe
Free from a choke-hold
That becomes a stronghold
May I live
Unafraid to live
Clinging to my expectations
With feral desperation

May I share space
Unafraid of being encased
Free from condemnation of race
That becomes a strong base
Purple, White, Olive, Black and every hue within
May I share space
Knowing that we are first a human race
…And all blood are red in this place.

May I speak of belief
Unafraid and in relief
Free from contentious eyes of disbelief
That becomes thresholds of grief
May I wear my mask of belief
Understanding that to achieve
Peace would be a welcome reprieve
…Which we must seek to retrieve.

May I love you
Unafraid to be bound to you
Free from censors of broken whispers
That becomes harbingers of cold shivers
May I love freely my love
Unafraid to expose my naked bust
Knowing that in you lies my trust
Encased in the warm embrace of your love.

DESERT STORM…

1456670252814[1]

Since I am living in a desert city, I will write my prompt based on being stranded on a deserted sea of sand.

The desert is a fascinating landscape yet it can be merciless in retribution. A sand storm can spring unannounced and those fine, endless sand can get into areas better left imagined.

Living here and driving by huge expanse of sand ever so often, makes me appreciate the flowing robes, ‘Thobe for the men and Jalabiya for women,’ that the Middle -Easterners wear as their national attire. It is not just a symbol of religion, but also derived over the ages as an attire of comfort and adaptability to their environment.

The blistering hot arid sands of the afternoon, quickly gives way to alarming freezing cold at nights that one must be well equipped to survive in the environment.

So, for me the five items would be:

  • A loose fitting robe, with flowing scarves, so that I can wear other things under to keep warm when needed, then use the scarf to keep out the fine sand that can get into eyes, the nostrils, the mouth, the ears, the underside and everywhere.
  • A huge flask of water to abate the thirst. Yes it’s arid and bone dry and who knows where the next oasis will be. Thirst and dehydration kills faster than not having food for days.
  • I will need my phone and charger with  full service so that I can use the GPS to find my way, to make a call for help and to listen to music.
  • Food, food, food, even if they are just dry dates and energy bars and tins of beans.
  • Now for this last part, I will cheat by sneaking in somethings: A desert tent and pillow, some good read and a convertible gas lamp which can be used to warm stuff, keep an eye out for the desert snakes and all sorts of vicious creatures. Maybe those their wicked looking curved blades might me handy for any marauding Berber.

Can I bring my husband? He can be quite handy you know 😉
