My Relaxing Indulgence…The great book of lists.

My reads of the moment
My reads of the moment

For this week’s Great book of lists, we get to outline our hobbies. Through the years, my hobbies have changed a bit. A lot have been dropped by the wayside due to push and pull factor of life. Some exigencies and recent moves found some things falling into the crack of lifes pavement.

However, there are some hobbies that have grown to become an intrinsic part of me:

  1. I love to read and I read to live. As far back as my conscious mind can recall, I have been in love with the lettered word. Even as a child, I would spend my pocket change on a book instead of something else. I read voraciously. As an adult, I indulge in a book, two or more in any given month. Reading is my sleeping pill. After the day’s hustle, I settle my nerves down with a book and if the book is a compulsive read, I might read far into the night or toddle off to sleep as I read.
  2. Writing. This is my way of thinking. I think through my fingers. Even before I ever started blogging which is just 11 months ago, I journalled every day.
  3. Doodling. I sketch. I really don’t know how it works but sketching relaxes me. I just doodle whatever comes to my mind. Sometimes, they turn out very nicely.

  4. Can people watching be classified as a hobby?
  5. Taking photographs. I have thousands of random photos taken over time. I hope to find time to take professional lessons. It’s a hobby with a lot of potentials.
  6. Dancing. It makes me very happy. I dance just for the sake of it. No celebration required. I get a shake of a leg in virtually every day. Somewhere, some how, I find my ten minutes of wiggle the waist 🙂
  7. My daily me time gives me a little room to flex my mind, to tone down and just exhale. I could spend my me time just being quiet, or taking a walk and soaking in the things around me.

There are some hobbies that I miss doing, like crocheting, playing the piano, pottery making and sewing. I don’t know if it’s that the zeal has waned or due to time squeeze. I guess I can use the excuse of not having a piano here in Dubai to console myself.

Midnight Motivations and Musings # 53

1460058619911[1]

A quick question, have you ever taken time to ask yourself how much you’ve been robbed over the years, by the act of trying to fit in, trying to please and trying to be who you are not?

This isn’t a sustainable characteristic. It’s very exhausting and self-annihilating.

You can only be the best when you are yourself because being the second best you is not who you are.

A certified true copy can never be the original.

Hello Good Looking…Wordless Wednesday.

The Daily Post

Hurried Feet…

Street[1]

From dusk to dawn

The flurry of feet

Hurried along the street

The needs of the day

Their desire to meet.

—–

The street is a happy place to be

With many things that you get to see

Sometimes, it might even be a clown

Or a lady wearing a frown.

——-

At times, it’s a happy looking dog

With its owner going on a jog

Or the man with the briefcase

He seems to be quite in  a haste.

——-

Some streets are dark

Some streets are light

Some streets are dirty

They’ll give you a fright

——-

Yet each street has its own soul

The heartbeats

Of the passing feet

That brings it to life.

——-

Lifestyle · My Thinking Corner

Tuesdays Trickles….My Thinking Corner // 16.

Every Tuesday, I share snippets of thoughts that I call ‘My Thinking Corner.’

I would like to invite you to participate. The challenge is quite simple.

Each Tuesday, share your very short snippets of positive, inspiring, motivating, health, spiritual, writing advice, clips, posts etc, that can serve as a prop to motivate others and simply add my link to your post.

I call it my thinking corner because, I actually take out a bit of time just to think through things, encapsulate my thoughts as much as possible and detoxify my mind. It helps give me clarity of vision and might help you too.

It might work for you in a different way, but the idea is to get the positive thoughts flowing.

Please send in your little thoughts. You never know whose life you might inspire.

Quote

  • To have a gift without putting it to work is as good as having none.
  • Between your trying and your triumph, you have the ‘umph’ waiting to be heard.
  • Opportunity is a flippant bird that flies off too fast, but temptation can be an albatross leaning on your doorbell with all its might, thus you must be quick to hold on to opportunity and slow in opening your door to temptation.
  • Your enemy can’t lure you to commit evil that you didn’t sign up for in your mind.
  • Your journey here on earth is to enrich it with your essence. How are you doing in your assignment?

I enjoyed the thoughts sent in by some rich thinkers. Look in and see. You might be inspired to share your thoughts.

Today’s Nuggets Stella’s snippets are full of enriching advice. ‘There’s always a way.’ All you’ve got to do is to look for it.

Tuesdays Thoughts Dupe’s short snippet is not only deep but calls for you to take an inner look at yourself. What do you see?

Tuesdays Trickles Do you still have your common sense with you, or has it gone with the wind?

Never Surrender Are you failing forward, or sitting in the dump?

Positive Choices Annettes’ post gives me serious pause to thought. WHAT are your choices? In her words and I quote below:

I need to share with you the fact that I am going through some trials right now. I have turned things over to the God of my understanding. This is new to me the FAITH thing. Never really thought about prayer or something bigger than myself.

‘May our reflections serve us well and bring about transformation that transcends beyond us and our peripheries.’

Thank you to all thinking contributors.

Jacqueline

P.S. Please let me know if your link is missing. There are some contributors that I can’t find their pingbacks. I think it’s better to always pingback to the most recent post of Thinking Corner.

Today’s featured blogs are:

Pranabaxom I enjoy reading Pranabaxom’s written words. An excerpt of the about page reads ‘I open my mind to the world.  Like the weather, sometimes my poems are cloudy, sometimes stormy.  I always like to see sunshine streaming through the leaves of trees, so I hope I can share some of this sunshine with my readers.’ Go check it out.

I am: I could like this poem so many times over. It speaks to you and gives you joy. Do check it out.

Lightheaded:  let me introduce you to Nancy Thorton whose journey of creating a new life after retiring has become an exciting one at 8,200 feet. In her words: ‘I’ve made a life for myself with words. from the first poem I penned in second grade about puppies to selling some of the  world’s most comfortable shoes.  through all those years I had teachers, editors, account people, clients even clients’ wives telling me how to make my copy better. and on occasion they were right.’

Tell Me:  ‘Blindfolded, Sarn could see nothing except the perpetual green glow of his eyes since their light was also trapped inside that light-tight fabric strip.

Yesterday, my son had a surprise for me and they made me cover my eyes and walk while he held my hand. I liked the idea of the surprise but didn’t quite trust that I wouldn’t hit my head before getting there.

Now, I can imagine how Sarn must have felt and in his own case, his life was endangered. Melinda keeps weaving a thick, suspenseful plot.

The challenge is simple : find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.

Feet! Normal human features that we see every day.

Yet, the feet are the beautiful piece of artwork from the Master craftsman Himself.

They take us on our lifetimes journey’s literally and physically

As we leave our imprints all over the sands of time in pursuance of our dreams.
