It’s always interesting to listen to people define ‘who they are’ by the pigment of their skin.

The pigment of your skin is simply aesthetics. The who you are is the being that resides behind the skin.

If you wish to understand a bit more, consider the thought of stripping yourself bare as a child, with no thought of colour and with an open mind of a receptive adult. Who do you see beneath your skin?

In our World, there are no doubts that the colour of our skin determines a lot with respect to our social strata…that’s an entirely different topic, but we shouldn’t let the colour of our skin determine who we really are, how far or how low we can reach in our lives.

The more you know yourself, the more you broaden your horizons.

I would like to invite you to participate. The challenge is quite simple.

I call it my thinking corner because, I actually take out a bit of time just to think through things, encapsulate my thoughts as much as possible and detoxify my mind. It helps give me clarity of vision and might help you too.

It might work for you in a different way, but the idea is to get the positive thoughts flowing.

  • If one has a tongue that dribbles, they shouldn’t accept to keep the confidence of others. For secrets let out are like spittle, you can never retrieve them.
  • Others may place temporary stumbling blocks in your path, but it’s up to you to remain permanently upstanding.
  • One bee can never make enough honey. You need to align yourself with lots of bees to get a pot of honey.
  • A small and well-executed dream is better than a big dream that’s poorly executed.
  • Are you dreaming yet? If not, why not?

Partners WANTED!!…

In this journey, you simply can’t go it alone. A lot of times you need to team up with others to achieve certain goals and that is one of the essence and rules of public engagement.

Blogging and writing are public engagement. Yes indeed, we write for ourselves, but when we lack readers, after a while, our zeal wanes.

This is a topic that I have given much reflection over the past few months and as a matter of fact, I put up a page on my header that reads ‘I am for hire.’

I am sourcing for blog partners who are interested in renting prime advert space on my sidebar which will be at a very nominal fee and arrangements can be made for convenient durations of 3 months, 6 months, 1 year…

What are the benefits?

  • It will be a growth focused team effort.
  • A mutually beneficial endeavour.
  • The blog’s logo/URL will be hosted on my sidebar under the title ‘My partners’ and a click will take an interested party directly to your site.
  • A weekly feature of partners post.
  • The high possibility of more visibility.
  • As I search for more room for growth, I take you along with me.
  • It will support me to maintain my blog.

Inspired Beacon is my first partner and if you look to my sidebar you’ll see the logo nicely emblazoned there. I also find that I have a lot to learn from Kaylaa Blackwell the blog author.

Asides from brilliant, inspiring posts that she publishes, she’s setting up an enviable e-commerce store. Inspired Beacon is a forward-focused blog and I admire such entrepreneurship and positivism.

Life is full of possibilities but you’ve got the leave the corridors of I can’t to the elevators of I’ll do my best to keep seeing change and empowering results.

Most times, change is painful and slow, but once it’s set in motion, there’s an incremental result.

We have to leave negativity behind to see clearer. Always keep an open mind, hearing ears (note that there’s a difference between listening and actually hearing), seeing eye’s – beyond the peripheries and an empathetic questioning mind.

We are called to live life in the fullness of joy and though this might be impossible to achieve 100% of the time, it’s possible to get it 95% of the time.

Embracing Change….Writers Quote Wednesday Challenge

Today’s Writers quote Wednesday challenge prompt ‘change’ has me thinking of two different things.

My brief thought went to the quote from Coco Chanel which states that:

“a woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life,” which I find to be true.

Since I had the big chop in January, it’s been a blissful time. I enjoy the cascade of water down my head without worrying about my braids, perms or weave. I don’t spend as much time at the hairdresser’s and in fact only visited a hairdresser last weekend to get some natural locks.

Now, I’ve done some locks with my hair to switch it up and believe me when I say it’s just fun.

Gosh! I can’t believe how much energy had gone into my hair maintenance.

Life is simply too short to be stuck in the salon!

I wrote a poem on change below following the quote from Benjamin Disraeli that:

“change is inevitable, change is constant.”

Though you choose not to be a participant
life’s changes happen even with your reluctance
it’s a cycle that’s constant
and has a way of changing your circumstance
It may grab you by happenstance
and toss you around with every chance

Some changes are a ghost of a dance
while some changes are worth taking the chance
that way you do have a slim chance
of not being led on a merry dance
when you embrace such change it just might enhance
and sometimes, it improves your finance.

I once knew a chap who chose to freelance
he soon gave up because of his finance
he didn’t enjoy taking such a stance
‘cos it wasn’t a sport that paid in advance
I still recall his askance
at how tough change was in his circumstance.

We spend valuable time waiting for the best opportunities, the best time, the best scenario and creating a million and one reasons why we are unqualified to create our own opportunities.

What if that expected opportunity never comes our way? What if no one else believes in us sufficiently to want to hand us such chances?

What would you do? Will you just curl up and watch the time pass or would you take a good look around you and see the little openings that surround you?

Like the saying goes, that opportunity comes but once, however, it has to find you willing and ready.

I am a die-hard hopeful-realist – if such a word exists. I believe in putting in my best in anything that I do and holding on tight to the hope that it will turn out well, even when it all looks dim.

Somehow, that little mustard seed has never failed me.

Sometimes bad experiences hold us captive more than we even know.

They subtly dictate and become the benchmark for our future exploits and endeavours, that we inadvertently shortchange our lives with experiences which are in the past.

As life is a culmination of experiences, we shouldn’t allow the mishaps of years gone by steal into our hope for the future, that’s simply the way the known and unknown enemy operates by reminding you of all the areas in your life where you failed so that you shouldn’t expect to succeed.

Even if you failed in so many things, there’s a chance that you’ll succeed in this one, if only you stay the course and stop looking at that old syllabus that didn’t quite work.
