Gravity When we were young we defied gravity, now when I think of falling down my heartbeat halts to a stop. Like an Igbo adage says, when broken bones are mentioned the old woman sighs in pain 🙂

One body, many souls Interesting read.

I have come to recognize that I am a multi-layered human with a million facets of me used for different occasions. We are one body and many souls.

Mental break in progress This post touches me on so many levels. I am just HAPPY to read this. Here’s are snippets from Cavelle’s post.

About eight months ago now, I went through some serious life changes and in the process I felt it necessary to delete my blog entirely. In hindsight, I wish I had given it some more thought before hitting the delete button. Two years of written work gone. Just like that!

PLEASE, I urge you to read.

Small, little tiny shacks Painstaking piece of art that evokes inspiration of all manners of stories in my mind. I see folklore, I see ghostly haunting, I see little people and so much more.

This is my week and since it is Women’s History Month, I bring you a quote from one of the most progressive women of the 1970’s, Billie Jean King.

Don’t let anyone define you. You define yourself.

Billie Jean King

GLASS CEILING

There once was a boy

named Bobby.

Who said women champs

were folly.

Along came a girl

named Billie.

Who said Bobby was silly.

Billie hit such a volley,

she left Bobby kneeling,

looking up at his

glass ceiling.

Echos Of My Neighbourhood

The Dancing Fountain and Echoes of A Celebration

Someone please grab the tail of time and tie it to the end of a strong tree.

Phew! It’s a week already. Immersed between a lot of this and that and reading for an exam that’s taking place today – maybe I will be in the exam hall sweating my French as you read this – this echo will be sweet and brief.

Nonetheless, in the speed of time, I still found time to celebrate my birthday at my favourite Italian place. I had a craving for yummy pasta and the children wanted pizza. Their Ravioli Al Porcini, Capricciosa and Valtellinese pizza are just so fresh and delicious.

It’s a good thing we ate after the jumping and not before ‘cos I was just stuffed.

I took a short video of the beautiful burst of colours of the water display 🙂

You Don’t Smell Good…

Quit Judging, Quotes

I have no patience
for those who spend
a better part of their time
judging and labelling others.

You’ve never worn
the other man’s shoes,
how exactly do you know
how undersized and pinching they are?

Quit being obtuse
You don’t smell like roses yourself.
If we look hard enough, I bet
there’s are loads of manure in your garden.

Tend to your own garden
called your life.
Concentrate on being the best you
that you can be.

Concentrate on being a supportive anchor
for someone who might be adrift,
but leave your judgment at the doorstep
otherwise, you’ll wear out your welcome.

Remember that not all who wander
have truly lost their path,
they are simply in search of a beacon
to help them find their way back.

Gratitude, Life lessons, Quotes

Having my birthday two days ago sent me on an interesting thought spin. When I was in my 20’s I had no vision of what my life would be in my 40’s because my mind couldn’t think beyond certain things. I daresay this is the case with most people because truly none of us knows what the next hour has to offer not to talk about tomorrow or 20 years down the line.

I remember back then I decided that by the time I was thirty I would have my PhD. and would be deeply entrenched in a diplomatic career that would allow me to be a mediator amongst people and Nations and to travel the World.

My diplomatic career dream started off by working from The Tunisian Embassy to the French Embassy and then The Delegation of the European Commission (EU). I was on a roll.

Fast forward to the present time, I smile as I recall that earnest young lady of my twenties, who had it all worked out in her mind. I forgot that life happens when we are busy making plans. Somewhere in that dream a husband and children featured but the depth of their role was never clear to me. They were simply going to come in somewhere at some point in time.

The fascinating diplomatic career was tossed aside for diplomatic cooking with the kitchen apron and children clinging to my legs and the traveling has been eye-opening opportunities that I had never anticipated – my travel case is always ready to go  🙂

The PhD. is yet to materialize but the desire is not lost, just deferred to the near future. The mediation happens every day though in smaller, tight circles of settling sibling squabbles and gladly dishing out words of advice and wisdom that I’ve acquired along the way.

I’ve played many roles and occupied all sorts of positions spanning over a decade going to two decades, but in all these divergent directions there has remained a pattern of being true to myself and embracing each opportunity with every bit of me.

At this juncture in my life, I am glad. I am grateful for a loving family. I have been blessed by total strangers whom providence brought to me. I am thankful for friends that I have found in unexpected places and still finding, on the path of my journey. I am thankful that though my path has been winding, I see the lines falling pleasantly in place.

Thank you for being present in my life.

Stark and Beautiful…

My main attraction was the young tree that had nothing much to show in the name of leaves caught in-between two richer siblings and I wanted to pay her starkness some attention because I found her beautiful nonetheless.

I simply love the juxtaposition with the building which wasn’t the initial plan.

My Thinking Corner

The Power Lies with You – My Thinking Corner

Thoughts become things and it’s our inaction or reaction that gives negative thoughts its sustenance. Jacqueline

Thinking, Power over thoughts

Negative thoughts drain our energy and prevent us from enjoying our present moments. The more we dwell on them, the bigger they become till they take a life of their own and become difficult to uproot.

For example, it’s so easy for a word wrongly said by one partner to the other to spiral from that single word to each party visualizing a negative future that would most likely not occur.

When these negative thoughts start brewing, it’s hard to stop them. Shifting ones’ focus to positive thoughts may not be easy to do but with practice it ‘s effective.

Shifting thought patterns is the only way, especially if you want to avoid going down a path that is painful and unnecessary.

Try these simple tips to help shift your thought pattern.

  • Read positive quotes
  • Switch the tone of your thoughts from  negative to positive even if at first it seems difficult.
  • Listen to meditative music or play music that makes you happy.
  • Always remember that there’s always a way out. You are not stuck.
  • Get out of your own head and take the focus away from you to someone or something else. Help someone else and shift your balance.
  • Sing, dance, and smile 🙂
  • Mentally make a list of things that you are grateful for and remember that no one is perfect.

Carol’s words on preparing for setback is just the right pep-talk one needs on rough days.

Write on The Toilet – Essential Writers Tips

Write on the toilet

Write till you get that book done.Toilet writing, writers tips, book writing, writing habits, best practice, unconventional approach

Writing till you get that book done may involve some quirky habits like writing on the toilet. As unconventional and as shitty as this approach might sound, have you ever observed that loads of inspiration flood into your mind when you are on the potty or taking a shower?

Surprisingly, the onslaught of inspiration has a way of dwindling down or completely evaporating like a mist when you now settle down to get the writing done.

Here’s a tip…

Rononvan's Weekly Haiku Challenge

Don’t Get it Twisted!

When I saw the haiku prompt ‘twist & shout’ I first thought of dancing, then another seed of thought planted itself in my mind and I went with it.

Misunderstanding, Half-truth

There’s no need to shout,

or getting your panties in a twist.

You got it all wrong!
