Foggy Mind’s Eye…

road, fog, mist, tomorrow, future, going forward

Sometimes,

when I stretch my mind’s eye

to see my future

it looks foggy and far-fetched

into tomorrow,

but I hold on to the compass

of my dreams.

I wrote this poem for my work-in-progress third poetry book, then I saw the Daily post prompt ‘foggy’ and I couldn’t resist pulling it out and sharing it here.

SOS! I NEED YOUR HELP!!

I would like to crave your indulgence and support. You know the greatest hurdle that lies before any indie-writer is not about getting the book written and published; it’s selling the book. Marketing is a humungous task.

Help, Assistance, Support, Community

Most of us would be enthralled to simply focus on spewing out the words and hoping the books will somehow sell themselves, unfortunately in the self-publishing business, it simply doesn’t work that way and all the best wishes from others don’t sell any books. What works is a pragmatic approach.

As most of you know, I just published my second poetry book ‘Unbridled,’ and going by experience gained from the first book Out of The Silent Breath – which was supported by several friends in this space and helped to instil my confidence to forge ahead – I have to buckle down, dig in my heels and jump into doing the needful.

As we speak, I am still learning the ropes, this is why I turn to all my friends in Bloglandia since I don’t have funds to run big marketing campaigns.

I am trying to create a buzz around ‘Unbridled,’ and would appreciate any support and leg up that I can get from all of you.

Would you be willing to grant me and my book an audience in your blog space, in any form that you deem suitable, such as book feature, blogger interview, book tour, book review etc? Also, if you’ve got pointers in any direction – authors/bloggers who support fellow authors, I would be glad to go begging cap in hand 😉

I understand that asking for support might be a bit imposing, but I also know that this journey is not one that I can embark on alone.

No matter how much I pride myself with the capability of pushing forward by myself, we also have an African proverb that says “if you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together.”

I choose to go far alongside others, even if our walk may be slower. Please help. I look forward to hearing from you.

My regards,

Jacqueline

I Am Judging You

‘Why do you write like this,

don’t you worry that people will sit and judge?’

she asked me.

‘I’ve grown too old to worry about being judged;

for judgement has been my portion for as long as I know,’

I replied.

I don’t shield my words in niceties,

afraid to cause you to blush.

I don’t say my words to cause shame,

but yes, I’m judging you.

I can’t pretend that we are friends enough

to write things only relatable

and swallow my words to please you

‘cos that would be dishonest,

I’ll be lying to myself.

The Daily Post

Hidden Self…

Hidden

As the days go by
and I unearth old hidden secrets
I discover good qualities right beside them

the fear most have is that when we let
those hidden things out of the box
others will judge us harshly

thus, we carry these heavy things
not knowing when to let go
and to set ourselves free

the thing is this,
even if you never have secrets to hide
people will still find reasons to judge you

and their opinion shouldn’t be your business
so, be your authentic self
live your life without hiding from yourself

Impatient Pagan…

When he made her acquaintance,
her fragrance titillated his senses,

he sought to have a dalliance
with her, she glowed with such radiance

and almost felt like an impatient pagan
for his increased hearts’ cadence

Posts That Caught My Interest #5

I love positive things. I love progress and exciting news. I love to see people chase after their aspirations and dreams and watch them grow. It inspires me more than I can tell you. Some days when my inspiration tank is low, good news from others pep me up and keep me going. Michele, I know you’ll do exceedingly well on this new path.

Inspired Beacon’s posts on better living, food for thought, inspiration, success tips, personal development and business sense keeps me pushing for higher grounds. Never Stop Fighting.

The ‘Fine Lines’ of this poem is not only riveting but empowering in its raw state.

I am mastering ‘How To Sail My Ship,’ how are you doing yours?

You have a right to your opinion, but you’ve got to learn to accept ‘My Opinion.’ In the bid to state your opinion as tell it as it is, also learn that it’s not a license to whiplash others with your venom.

I honestly can’t explain how it must feel to be purchased. A short post ‘I was a purchase,’ that left me pondering.

His life has become a disaster waiting to happen,

yet he just couldn’t stop himself,

he was not in a good place.

He hated the choices that he had made

getting hooked was far easier than getting off

the results have only been disastrous.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Unseen Ceilings… Stream of Consciousness Saturday

They say that the sky is the limit
well, that’s a half-truth
‘cos they will place unseen glass ceilings
to keep you tightly sealed in.

They’ll watch with keen interest
to see how you can push through,
to see if you’ve got the gumption
to put cracks in that ceiling

I say that putting cracks is not enough;
and I know it won’t be easy,
but if you take the sealing off your mind
you can bring that ceiling crashing down.

When I saw the prompt for today’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday ‘sealing/ceiling,’ many things came to my mind.

I wanted to write my thoughts about glass ceilings and its effect on women, but it would have become an essay, ‘cos I have a lot to say on this subject. I’ll, however, leave off delving into it right now and save it for the day that I’m ready for a war of sexes.
