Finding Fabulous Fulfillment For Yourself After Having A Little One

You aren’t afraid to admit that your entire life revolves around your new baby. You have lost all concepts of who you were before you had the little one and you don’t want it to affect your self-esteem in the long run. Being a new mom is full of challenges, so you need to keep in touch with the person you have always been, otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy. Whether you’re trying to impress your spouse by furthering your career or you just want to give yourself a little boost of confidence, there are so many ways to feel fulfilled without compromising the important things in life. Consider all of the following ideas and you will soon be able to find contentment amongst the hectic life of having a newborn.

Pursue Your Passions

You should never give up on pursuing your passions, even when you have had a child. Your career and studies might have to go on hold for a short period of time whilst you adjust to life with a little one, but there is nothing stopping you from achieving your goals eventually. You might want to start with taking an online course which will help you enhance your career one day. Whether it’s an MBA with engineering focus or a business management degree that will help you to start your own company one day, you will be able to find the ideal solution for you, without compromising on the important time with your new baby.


Reconnect with Friends

When you have a child it is very easy to lose touch with people who were once very important to you. Reconnecting with your friends and maintaining those strong relationships is very important for your own sanity. You will regret ignoring your best friend for the first few years of your child’s life because one day you might really need to lean on them for support. Schedule regular catch ups with your close companions and you will never feel out of the loop or lonely.

Take Care of Yourself

Find little pockets of time throughout the day to give yourself that little bit of tender loving care. Whether it’s a hot bubble bath whilst the baby is sleeping or you meditate for half an hour first thing in the morning, there are so many ways to practise self-care. These small moments are precious and will help you to keep your sanity during a hectic day. A pamper session once a month will also help you to feel fabulous.

Find the Perfect Balance

Whatever your personal goals are, you should always strive for the perfect balance. You can do it all, whether you’re chasing a career whilst taking care of a baby or furthering your studies in between motherhood. Find an equilibrium that helps you to conquer all the elements that you love and you will always be content in your life.

Although your little one means the world to you, you must never forget about yourself and what you want to achieve in life. As long as you strike a balance between the two you will always be happy and comfortable with all of your decisions in life.

To place my order, I stretch up my neck to look at my 6ft 4inches son when it seems like it was only yesterday that he used to stretch out his tiny hands and tell me ‘caawwy me up mummy.’

Where did 15 years fly to? Where did all the time go? Between changing diapers, mashing potatoes and vegetables, reading bedtime stories, reciting nursery rhymes, mending scraped knees and many parenting incidents, time zoomed by.

Now, I watch my son in his Tim Hortons uniform for the first time – after a 3-week training – stand behind the counter to ring up my order.

This is my boy’s first job and I feel tickled pink that he got selected out of many others who were interviewed for the job of a Barista.

It’s a Summer job and I am grateful for the experience that this opportunity gives him.

It will instil some sense of work ethics, confidence, independence and responsibility. It will help his transition from teen to adulthood, provide constructive use of free time and time management.

I am sitting here, typing this post and getting my first cup of drink from the young man and it tastes absolutely wonderful. My heart feels full and this means so much to me.

Keeping Your Mojo Throughout All Parenting Difficulties You Might Face

No one said raising children was easy. However, when your child looks at you and tells you they love you throughout your life, you know instinctually that raising children is worth it. However, that’s not to say the positive benefits of being a parent aren’t earned. They’re earned more than any life achievement could be. Climbing Mount Everest can look like a lounging nature trail walk compared to raising a human being to the best of your ability, and hoping they turn out sensibly, wise and happy.



Part of being a great parent is keeping your ‘mojo’ levels up to the point where you can happily steer them through all the difficulties that occur through life. Mojo can be defined as your energy levels, your ability to be open, engaged and magnetic, the ability to go to sleep well and not have to worry too much about your day to day responsibilities because you’re confident you can complete them.

To someone lacking mojo, this can sound too good to be true, and impossible to keep up all the time. That’s true, there’s no way anyone can be happy all of the time, but they can certainly keep a good attitude most of the time.

Here’s how:

Make Time For Recreation

Recreation and taking a break, with or without your children is a big step on the road to sustaining your mojo. You have to keep updated with your social links, make time for silly entertainment, and allow yourself to be an utter goofball around your kids. It’s these moments that make all the ‘admin’ of life worth living, so be sure to keep them numerous.

Release The Burdens On Your Mind

Over time, unfulfilled obligations or life stresses take their toll on your mind, and a low-level feeling of despair can gestate within you because of this. Be sure to try alternative methods around these issues.

For example, if you’re getting divorced, you might like to try divorce by meditation to cool the entire emotionally-charged process. If you have difficulties with your children’s behavior at school, you might like to try and get to the source and root of the issue by visiting child behavioral therapists, as opposed to scolding them and hoping that works. Parenthood is never easy, but it’s twice as difficult with a heavy mind.

Eat Healthily

Eating a healthy diet is an absolute must when fulfilling a job so demanding as being a parent. Your children can take all energetic reserves out of you by the end of the day, and if you’re not giving your body all of the nutrients it deserves, you’re likely to crash sooner rather than later. Be sure to stay on top of healthy eating habits, and you’ll find an extra reserve of energy you never knew you could access.

Parenthood is the hardest job among jobs. Even trained and battle-hardened soldiers will shudder at the thought of raising another human being successful. If you’re doing a relatively good job, well done you! You deserve to be remembered as an incredible parent. Just be sure to stay on top of your health, mentally, physically and spiritually. Spend Quality Time With Your Kids

Have Patience

7 Effective Tips on How to Stay Healthy

When Your Family Is Sick

Living around family members who are sick can be quite challenging. This is because while you want to attend to your family, you are also putting yourself at a risk of contracting the illness they are suffering from. As such, there is need to cautiously attend to the sick while taking care of your health first. It is worth noting that just because a person in your family is sick, the rest of you do not have to contract the sickness.

It is important to be extra cautious if the illness in the family is contagious. This is because such diseases can spread very fast and affect everyone in the family particularly children and other people whose immunity is weak. Fortunately, there are several proven tips you can use to ensure that you stay healthy when your family is sick.

Wash hands thoroughly

Hands may come into contact with contaminated surfaces and as such may be carriers of germs and other disease-causing microorganisms. Due to this, it is important to ensure that you wash thoroughly using plenty water and detergent/soap. You can also use essential oils together with soap/detergent to enhance the effectiveness of the soap in killing germs.

Once you have washed your hands well, you should then dry them using a clean towel. Not all germs can be removed through hand washing as there are some that tend to remain even after washing the hands. This is why it is necessary to dry your hands so as to remove the damp conditions on hands that may harbor germs. Ensure that you dry your hands well including beneath the nails.

Restrict kitchen access

If a family member is sick, you should ensure that he/she does not access the kitchen or other common areas such as the dining table. This is particularly if they are sneezing or coughing and may, therefore, spread germs all over the house quite easily. Bacteria can survive on different surfaces including tables and countertops. Therefore, when the infected person uses the kitchen, these germs may be left on these surfaces and may later get transferred to food, which could be disastrous when you have small kids eating together with your family.

In addition to restricting kitchen access, you should also limit the use of the refrigerator and freezer. Ideally, people open fridge doors more times than any other door in the house. As such, these doors may serve as a germ-swapping spot in the house.

Use hot water to clean laundry

Disease-causing germs, bacteria, and other microorganisms are easily destroyed by heat. In line with this, you should ensure that you use hot water to wash your laundry and for bathing. Research studies have shown that hot water is more efficient in killing germs than cold water. In addition to hot water, it is also necessary to use detergents and antiseptics to kill germs in your laundry.

When doing laundry, it is important that you should not touch your mouth or nose. This is because germs tend to get into the body easily when they come into contact with open surfaces such as the mouth and nose. When doing laundry using a washing machine, it is important that you sanitize the machine using hot water and bleach in between loads.

Reduce physical contact

When someone is sick or recovering from sickness it is not the best time for cuddles, kissing, and hugging as well as other forms of physical contact. It may sound unrealistic and hurtful not to hug and cuddle your sick child, but it is for the best for both of you. This is because while the healthy are at a risk of contracting a disease from the sick, the sick on the other hand are more susceptible to contracting other illnesses since their immunity is quite low.

You should use hands-off ways of comforting and soothing a sick family member by using hand signals that mean kisses, hugs, or using comforting words like “I love you”. If you have to kiss your child, avoid kissing on the mouth but instead kiss on the forehead or other surfaces such as on cheeks.

Disinfect the house regularly

Usually, germs can survive on surfaces for 24 hours only. However, there are some that survive for longer than that. Due to this, you should ensure that you thoroughly disinfect surfaces and floors in the house on a regular basis. Some of the surfaces that you are likely to find germs include counter surfaces, computer keyboards, telephones and toilet seats among other surfaces.

In addition to disinfecting surfaces in the house, you should also thoroughly wash utensils such as spoons, forks, knives, plates and cups among other utensils. This helps in preventing the spread and transfer of germs to other people in the family.

Keep distance from sick persons

If you are sick, it is advisable that you keep your distance so as not to spread the illness to other people. It is necessary that you avoid going in social gatherings while you are on medication as this may put those around you at risk of contracting illnesses. Additionally, you may expose yourself to other illnesses from other people since your immune system may be quite weak thus making you susceptible to developing other illnesses.

Promote hygiene

Germs and bacteria thrive well in dirty conditions. It is, therefore, important to ensure that you promote hygiene in and around the house. For instance, ensure that the house is clean at all times. Towels should be maintained dry at all times and without any moisture whatsoever. If you have a sick person in the house, ensure that you dispose of the tissues or any other trash used by them. Additionally, ensure that you do not have unprotected contact with items used by a sick person.

For added safety and health while in the house, you should ensure that the sick persons in the house cover their noses and mouths while coughing or sneezing. This helps in preventing the likelihood of having air-borne germs all over the house thereby putting other people at risk of developing infections.

If you want everyone in the family to be healthy, it is important to strengthen their immune system through feeding them on a well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding counter-productive habits such as smoking or abuse of drugs. This goes a long way in making it possible to prevent illnesses and infections particularly among young children and adults with weak immune systems.

As a parent, all we really want is peace and quiet – but if you have more than one child, that’s never really the case. If they aren’t playing rambunctious games that you’re worried might just shatter your home into pieces, then chances are they’re fighting as loudly as possible – and this might happen even more if they share a room. Not having your own space can be rough on kids, but luckily there are things you can do to make it easier on everyone.

Set Up Room Dividers

If they’re having problems separating their possessions from each other’s, then add room dividers so that they have the illusion of having their own space. It’s important, especially as you get older, to have your own private space. A lot of kids feel happy and secure knowing they can go into their rooms and close their doors for a little breathing space – but if this isn’t possible for your family, putting dividers across the room might do the trick, whether they’re folding ones or simply a curtain that can be pushed back.

Give Them Separate Storage

You’ve probably already heard numerous fights about who stole someone else’s favourite toy – honestly, it can be exhausting to have to deal with. You can get around this by giving them separate spaces to store their toys and possessions, along with another container for toys that belong to both of them.

Although sharing is a key skill that it’s important for them to learn, it’s also important for them to understand to respect other people’s things.

Move Furniture To Give Them More Space

If there isn’t much floor space so they tend to be crammed in together, then why not go for children’s bunk beds? This will free up a lot of the room, and it’ll also help them to feel a little more alone as they’re trying to get to sleep at night. Bear in mind that this might make dividing the room into two a whole lot harder – but the extra space might just be worth it.

Give Them Another Place To Do Homework

Make sure that there’s another place in the house for your kids to do homework or to go to generally be quiet and have their own space. It’s crucial for every child to have their own quiet orderly space to study, and if they’re being interrupted by a sibling in their shared room that might be hard. It’s also important for them to know that if they need to, there’s a place in your house where they can go to chill out and destress and be alone.

Lead Their Communication

It’s important for you to show them what good communication is. Make sure that you and your spouse are always polite and loving towards each other, and that you apologize after any disagreements or harsh words that you might have. If you encourage your kids to do the same thing when they have disagreements with each other, you’ll find that they’ll be kinder and more gentle with each other and that fights will get resolved much more quickly.

The Harvest…

Jeremiah wiped beads of sweat from his brows intermittently as he carried on with his garden work…raking, sowing, watering, mulching…

Raised on the acres of his parents’ farmland where they had cultivated all manners of crops for sale and for food, gardening was work that he could do with eyes closed.

However, today, as much as he tried to concentrate, he worried. He worried over the poor harvest of the cropping season; he worried over the weather forecast of heavier rains and the flood that ensued which always affected the crops; he worried about how he would fend for his growing family even as his wife’s painful groans and the encouraging voice of the midwife floated into the backyard.

A baby is a blessing he reminded himself, though he hadn’t been too happy when Ruth broke the news that she was expecting. He had expressly told her to be more careful after they had Gideon their sixth child.

An unmistakable wail of a newborns’ voice rang from the house and his lips curved in a wide smile; his family was certainly growing in numbers.

When Your Child Teaches You. ..


On the day that you wake up
Doubting yourself
On the day that you wake
Wondering if you are doing okay as a parent
On the day that you wake up
Feeling that you suck at being a mother
On the day that you wake up
Worrying if you are raising them right
On the day you wake up confused
Not knowing what the next step should be
On the day that you wake up
Wanting to cry instead of laugh or smile
On the day that you wake up
Huddled and not wanting to climb out
It takes the lovingly made card
Of small hands
The painstaking drawing of hearts and kisses
Of the warm hug and the beautiful words
That sounds like music in your ears
‘Mummy you are the bestest ever!’
‘I made this for you’
For you to learn,
That you are doing well
That you are the bestest, despite your shortcomings
Those words are the turn key
That makes you climb out and wear your smile with joy
To flip pancakes with oodles of syrup
Sniffing and thanking God for these young arms.
