For my benefit and yours…personal thoughts

Dates_of_thanks[1]

The past week has been a tough struggle to get to my inner place of happiness.

I struggled to isolate my thoughts as I would normally do in order to reach my state of sanctuary because I was troubled by World events.

I may not be able to isolate myself from the goings on because I also have an interest in life around me after all, no man is an Island, but for self-preservation, one has to separate themselves from time to time so as not to get lost in the deluge of happenings that cascades all over us.

My husband always says that I am too sensitive and possibly naive to an extent that things still manage to shock me.

I would have thought that having personally been through several valleys and shadows of death in my life, that I would have come up toughened, but I realise that the deepness of my scars actually makes me more vulnerable, more sensitive to others, more empathetic and possibly more naive at my wonder at life.

Our happiness should never be hinged on anything temporal because our truest form of peace comes from within.

At moments like this when I search inside me or through the Bible for words of courage, love and understanding, I am surprised how old knowledge takes on new meaning.

“We are told that in everything, we should give thanks to God.” for example 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Ephesians 5:20

It’s a hard sell to give thanks when it’s easier to be grumpy.
It’s a hard sell to a grieving soul.
It’s a hard sell to someone fighting for their lives.
It’s a hard sell for so many reasons….

but as I continued to reflect on this in my mind, the Truth of giving thanks and being grateful expanded.

We give thanks not because we feel obliged to do so and not because of what we may have, but because it actually uplifts our minds.

We give thanks not because our lives are great, but because it could be worse and it expands the little we have to more.

Our thankful heart is less grumpy and experiences better health in that state.

Our state of gratitude inadvertently acts as a pep up for our spirit as it insulates our mind with happy hormones and refreshes it.

Truly, the struggle is real in the battlefield of the mind and one must not discount it, but it could be worse when we throw our sense of gratitude to the winds.

Yes, we must continue to advocate for peace, love and understanding. We may continue to remain baffled at the unfolding of events around us and wonder how selfishness has gained such toe-hold that it has become a blinding driver that the conscience of society dies one more inch each day.

However, in all these nerve-wracking things going on, we must never forget to uplift ourselves with thanks. We must never forget our sense of inner self-preservation for our true strength does not lie with the guns since we did not come to Earth bearing pistols in our hands.

A heart mired in ingratitude is indeed a bitter place to be. No matter how little, find something positive to be thankful for. Let it all end in praise.

In ten days, we will be out of the month of June.

The first-half of the year would be done with and we’ll be sliding into the second half.

How have you been holding up with all the plans you set out for this year?

Have you taken the time to take stock and see where you are at?

There’s still a lot of time to get rolling with all those promises you made to yourself  for this year.

Earlier in the year, I published a post ‘why our resolutions are so last season,’ and it might be worth a quick peek.

All the best as you push along. Let me speak a bit of French here:

Petit à petit, l’oiseau fait son nid. Bit by bit, the bird builds it’s nest.

The key word is to get building 🙂

Blessed be.

Life is full of crooked paths that we don’t envisage, no matter how much we plan.

Of course, there are certain things that we can take charge of and brace ourselves for incidentals, but there’s really so much that one can do.

However, when we keep our minds on a positive track, we’ll find a way through that tight and crooked path onto a more suitable highway.

Writing is not an easy path at all. It’s not a journey to instant wealth, but when we look at the fulfilment derived and also know that our works will hopefully ingrain themselves on the sands of time, that is gratification that keeps you going through this windy and tedious path.

**today I realised that this is the 100th-midnight musings post and it amazes me that I’ve been able to keep up with it**

These are the words floating through my head of late.

Sometimes our strength flags a bit and we just need to exhale to get back those thoughts properly aligned. We shouldn’t feel guilty for taking the time to unplug; special note to workaholics like me.

Rest and recuperation are all part of being productive and taking care of oneself, though in the highly driven World of today, some of us tend to overreach and treat ourselves unkindly for cutting a slack.

When  you unplug and rewind, you bounce back a whole lot better. When we walk ourselves into a state of guilt for showing ourselves some love, we not only create room for diminished returns but a lot of negative emotions begin to seep in.

Blessed be.

Achieve[1]

It’s our patience that lends us the required strength to endure and those high achievers that you admire, are not necessarily the most talented people in the world.

They are simply those whose feet remain firmly planted on the ground, they run after their lofty ideas and carry on long after others have thrown in the towel.

Sometimes, it may be hard for us to stay the course and to see the small improvements that we make day by day, but if we endure in our endeavours and take it step by step, the job gets done effectively and our talent tends to look brighter.

Keep going.

Happiness[1]

It’s been said a billion times and yes I will say it again, ‘life is too short to live miserably,’ and at the end of this living what exactly would you have achieved if misery has been your only destination?

There’s never going to be one Eureka moment when happiness runs up to you at a bus-stop and clings to your pants legs with eagerness to become your life tenant.

Neither is it something that someone else can hand over to you. The people around you may help in stimulating your state of happiness, but they don’t owe you the responsibility of making you happy and as a matter of fact, handing someone the reins to your happiness is a big mistake that you can’t afford to make.

It’s an active emotion that must be pursued daily and requires your contribution. The state of being happy is not a one-size fit all recipe, and each person has to find their own mental and emotional state of well-being which exists not because everything in their life is perfect but because they appreciate and enjoy their imperfect moments.

No one should sit and wait for happiness to happen to them because the state of happiness is not a destination you arrive at, but a continuous journey of the mind.

Blessed be.

Jacqueline

Responsibility and ownership of shortcoming are difficult aspects that most struggle with.

Excuses will be made with anything plausible and some will prefer to keep shifting the blame other than shifting the chunk of hubris that denies them the pleasure of seeing themselves in stark reality.

Growth demands that we wake up to the reality of our true selves. It’s until we are honest with ourselves that our new possibilities emerge and we make our dreams come true.

I’m halfway through with this book and was compelled to leave a review. I absolutely love this book of poems. My favorites are “Love Rations” (for those who love to give the silent treatment) and “Beggars Supper” (which definitely pulls at the heart strings). Two thumbs up!!

A lot of us are used to setting off with a task at hand and never completing them. We start all out with zeal, taking leaps, and bounds in days and by the end of the week, month or set time, we’ve backslid so far we can’t even see the frontline where we started from.

Note to self: Try to stay on track by, setting reasonable goals and timelines, setting anticipated steps to get to goals, make a plan for drawbacks and strategy to get back on track when and if we do backslide…like I have a thousand times and make yourself accountable.

Learn to forgive yourself when you fall off, pick up lessons on how and why you fell off the wagon and also take into account making time for rest, recuperation, revving your engine and rebounding back. It’s better to be consistent than bursts of starts and stops that get nowhere.

Sometimes, working with a team of others helps to keep us on track, helps to sharpen our skills and also helps to uplift us when we experience a glitch. Consider team building with others as a way of strengthening your base.

Shalom!

Will I have the opportunity to live life a second time? I have no answer to that question, but I know that in this realm, you and I get only one chance and one life to live.

The constructive question that I keep asking myself as I journey along now, is am I living as I should? Am I living my life or am I letting life live me?

Am I in a position to take charge of a lot of things that goes on in my life knowing that a lot of my destiny lies in my hands?

What am I doing to put myself in that position?

Or, am I just willing to ride along and take whatever fate flings at me?

We’ve been given a free will to make daily choices and even though some choices may be out of our control, the bulk of it all truly rests on us.

Each day, the mindful thoughts, the conscientious actions that we take determines how our moments play out.

Blessed be.
