Mundane Monday

The Fallen Leaf – Mundane Monday

Mundane Monday Challenge is created to find beauty in almost everything.

The challenge is simple. Find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.

When I sat on the park bench,

she floated to the ground

right before my feet.

I felt like stepping on her,

to feel the crinkle of the dry fallen leaf

under my bare toes.

Seeing her difference,

I paused and took note;

my mind saying, let her be.

Don’t squash her into the ground,

allow her to live her dreams ,

even if they be for another day or two.

For all, I may know,

she’s been dying to lie down,

tired of hanging on limbs

that made her sway up and down.

Just let her be;

said my mind.

Let her have her peace.

I wrote this as I watched the leaves, my mind dwelling on many little things.

A Click A Day

The Global Village – A Click A Day.

I walked past this office with the map and stepped back to take a second look. With their permission, I looked at it with keen interest. Yes, I’ve seen the World map before – luckily I did geography in school, so I do know a bit about my longitudes and latitudes but that wasn’t where my interest lay.

I noticed that though we are set apart by natural and man-made boundaries, we are all still joined together.

I noticed that the World today seems smaller than it was in my mind as a child. That today, I am bound to know what might be happening in Greenland right as it unfolds and it brought this thought to my mind; ‘that the lack of concern about what’s happening in other places is living in a fools’ paradise.’

Crisis and trouble have no borders and eventually, when not checked and contained, it becomes everyone’s trouble. We have to make wise decisions in choosing those who become our leaders because our small and unselfish decisions truly matter in the larger scheme of things.

Dissociative Identity Disorder: Anger and Shame

There are posts that I read now and again and I’m at such loss to express my thoughts which is a rarity.

Midnight Motivation and Musings 110

Life is a continuum and as much as we don’t like our comfort being disturbed the truth is that after a while your comfort zone becomes stale, discomforting and claustrophobic.

In order to keep growing, we have to consistently stretch the limbs of our imagination. The strength of our creativity, our physical and spiritual growth is highly dependent on how we dare ourselves to grow from the familiar to unfamiliar. Don’t settle! Don’t stagnate. Keep pushing for higher grounds. The harder you push, the easier it becomes.

This analogy can be likened to a crab that periodically molts and sheds its exoskeleton which would leave it vulnerable and fragile for some time while it continues to grow into its new shell and then molts again when it’s inelastic shell becomes too tight.

Be that crab.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Let’s Throw Him Under The Bus!

There’s almost no week that passes without our eyes and ears exposed to horrific abuse of power by men in uniform. The repetitive killing going on in the US is really a huge cause for concern, that it makes me wonder when men who are meant to protect and serve have turned into outright judge, jury, and executioner. socsbadge2016-17

How people can watch another human murdered in cold blood and then find all manners of justification for it simply beats me. Extrajudicial killings are unethical and illegal!

America, we’ve got a problem and we can’t pretend that our house is not on fire while we are busy chasing bush rats. I’m almost afraid that the society has lost its head and is courting outright combustion if these things are not handled properly.

In my place, we say “that the bushfire that will ravage the town starts with a kindle of a single twig.” This bushfire is gathering momentum, to such an extent that it’s scary and a crime to be black in America. Why is it my business you might want to know? Well, it is my business because this is where I lived up until 2015 when we moved to the UAE and will go back when we are done here. It’s my business because I’m a member of the larger society and in a society when there’s a problem, we look for ways to fix it otherwise it becomes pervasive and that’s the point it has gotten to.

It’s a concern to hear people callously go on a smear campaign over the body of a soul that hasn’t even gone cold. They simply throw him or her under the bus because he or she doesn’t look like you. That’s not what humanity is all about. In no way do I condone crime but I will not condone injustice as well. If a man commits a crime, demobilize him and bring him to justice except if as an officer you are claiming that you can’t destabilize a man without shooting him dead, then you have no business in the uniform or possessing a firearm.

It’s my business because I’m a black woman with a husband and son’s and we are large framed in my house. My son who’s 14 is over 6ft 2 inches tall like his dad and he’s still growing. As a mother of black boys’ and a wife of a black man, I was terribly uncomfortable back in Houston anytime my husband was out of the house late in the evening. Until he got home, or until my boys were indoors from school it seemed as though I was holding my breath each day. I think I even over-parented them because I restricted them from running around unsupervised with other children in the area. I try hard not to make my life revolve around race, but there are societal pressures that force it in your face and no matter how egalitarian you try to be this is a reality. I’m angry, sad and worried. There has to be a better way to resolve conflicts.

Today’s Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt word is ‘bus.‘ We should use it as it is or use words that contain bus in them.

The Daily Post

Life is a Quest…

Being alive in itself is an expedition. It is a quest to find purpose and the common factor is that as humans, we are all in search of the same basic things: Food, Shelter, Love, and Peace. These four basics can be broken down into minutiae details of other human desires that we have, but when greed is added to this mix you and I can guess what the end result becomes.

The Iconic Emirates Towers – A Click A Day.

picsart_09-23-09-20-251

The Emirates Towers which was built 16 years ago is a marvelous structure that is perhaps the one of its kind in the whole world. It sits majestically on The Sheikh Zayed Road and was designed by the architect Hazel Wong.

This unique edifice is a twin tower with 54 and 56 floors respectively and houses the lavish Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel as well as offices.
