The Resilience of The Broom – Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge.

The strength of the broom lies not in the power of a single frond but in the resilience of its united fronds. African proverb

Like most families my growing up years consisted of squabbling with my siblings over things that I can’t even recall anymore, but the saying above is one of those proverbs that I’ll never forget because my parents used proverbs like that one to teach us life’s lessons.

‘Igwe bu ike! This is an Ibo word that means ‘there’s strength in numbers.’ My mother will tell us that while demonstrating with a broom.

She would give each of us a broomstick and instruct us to go ahead and break it. With barely much strength applied, the broomstick would snap. Then she would give us the entire broom to break and no matter how much you tried, that broom would never break. It might bend, but not break.

She used this example to emphasize to us that we had to stand together as one family because when we stand together as a unit that’s the only way we would withstand adversity and over the years of my life, we have individually and collectively gone through the storm as a family, but having each other to lean on has made passing through the eye of the storm easier.

Our unity didn’t mean that we lost our individuality, but there’s a code of oneness that understands and tolerates diversity.

This saying is not just for families, but to any group that man forms because we are social beings.

Unity brings strength
and creates harmony.

Unity promotes prosperity
and fosters love.

Unity covers the weakness of one
and infuses him with support.

When we are united
we can withstand.

When our unity is broken down
we will crumble.

♥ Start paying attention and listening to what you say.

♥ If you hear yourself consistently using negative or self-limiting words; change them.

Remember that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he and there’s definitely power in our thoughts and our words. There’s usually a fine line between saying the truth about how you feel or what’s going on in your life in a positive way and being filled with negative energy that refuses to give room for better positive consciousness.  I’ve met people who are so filled with negativity and yet they wonder why they can’t be happy or get the best out of their circumstances. It’s all about choices. We choose how we think and there’s power in that positive thinking.

Lady Cee sends in precious quotes and thoughts that worth reflecting on. Do take a peek.

Be happy.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

The View Out of The Window… Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Viewpoints; that’s what it’s all about, or should I say the point of view – POV. We are all created and given the free will to have independent views which must be balanced against the views of others. One’s point of view determines how tolerant and understanding of others they are.socsbadge2016-17

For sure, we all view things differently even when we share similarities in our POV’s, however, when we are obliged to express our own views, we should have the understanding that others are entitled to theirs as well. That’s why it’s free will.

Individuality means that two people can look at things and their views will differ in several ways, yet it’s amazing that some people expect others to accept their POV, hook, line and sinker without questions and when the other party differs in opinion, misunderstanding begins to brew.

When a POV is so narrow, myopic and self-centred, the person tends to become a know-it-all, a bully,  it’s my way or no other, I am right and everyone else is wrong.

I’ve learnt to understand that how one views life is equally how life will look at them in the face and as the popular saying goes, “your attitude determines your altitude.”

Do you open up your window to see the beautiful open sky, the blooming Bougainvilleas, the child skipping down the road, the strangers walking down the street, the neighbour watering his plant or mowing the lawn…What do you want to see? A hope-filled day or a hopeless day?

Even the brown dust of the Earth is beautiful without which those plants won’t grow and bloom. The view is all dependent on you.

P.S. My Stream of Consciousness Saturday post is late today because my internet service providers decided to show me another view of their service yesterday. I chose not to give in to frustration and happily went photo hunting.

Have a hope-filled view of the weekend and stay blessed.

Jacqueline.

Levels of empathy: How much do you care? I enjoyed reading this thoughtful message and highly recommend it.

Love and empathy is infectious. When all around you there are people lifting others, giving help, educating and emitting love, to become a part of that is a natural and an amazing feeling.

The other side of the coin. To walk with blinkers on, insular and arrogant, judging and condemning is ultimately lazy, greedy and destructive to others and to themselves.  It takes true strength and character to practice empathy, to be kind and give love.

The answer to what is it and another guess: Did you get the earlier answer? Here’s another guess for you 🙂

30 day minimalism: This is such a smart idea and I suggest you take a peek. You might be interested in participating.

NCAA or solid waste management: An interesting analogy that echoes my thoughts. Maybe you might think differently.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Accumulated Points…Streams of consciousness Saturday.

I love accumulating points or funds in the kitty and watch it amount to something that’s useful later. I also have favourite things such as books that I tend to hold on to but over the past few years, due to our moves from Continent to Continent, I have learnt to minimise my pile by giving them out and the thing is that once I’ve given something away, I don’t miss it. socsbadge2016-17

A number of times, I have been privileged to use the points accumulated from my travel miles to purchase a treat for myself from the flight’s tempting catalogue without paying a dime extra and the feeling from such freebie is totally awesome 🙂

As a thrifty spender, I keep my eye’s peeled for great bargains on food stuff because a penny kept, is a penny saved and the accumulation of those pennies come in handy. On Friday I used the 50 Dirhams (14 dollars) bonus credit that I accumulated from previous purchases to buy 2 dozen oranges, some strawberries, mangoes and grapes; the fruits tasted extra good 😉

Naturally, it’s a challenge to accumulate anything because it takes time and patience to build up anything and this equally applies to the finer points of human relationships such as trust.

The only thing I don’t fancy accumulating is stress, anger and lest I forget ‘weight.’ 😉 I’d rather address an issue that’s getting on my nerves and move on rather than to keep ignoring it until it gets too much and all that accumulated emotion comes bursting out one fine day.

Such an approach of storing up negative emotions tends to lead to overreactions and it takes just mere minutes to tear down that which has been built over time.

The Daily Post

Mirrored Images…

The mirror does have a way of distorting images, so it’s important to make peace with it especially when you are looking at yourself. Remember that the mirror of your mind is by far more important than that of others because their views might be distorted due to the specks in their eyes 😉
