Forgetting God

Are we on a slow slide towards destruction? Who would we blame for our poor choices? An enlightening read to start one’s day.

Problem with the Millenials

Excerpts of this insightful article struck me in the head and I have to question myself. Am I part of the problem?

We cannot expect children or young adults to behave in a way that we have not trained them to behave. If we have done everything for them and constantly protected them as they have moved through the world, of course they are going to wind up back in our homes where they feel protected, comfortable, and … well, at home.

Which way in the rain?

When it rains, do you huddle somewhere and wait it out, or do you enjoy a little sprinkle – if you are not a bag of salt – and exploring?

Feeling tired, check your blood sugar

I think Anna wrote this article for me. This is how I’ve been feeling lately.

Us the talking machines

I read this post and here’s my thought: ‘Good gracious! If we continue at this rate, we’ll suck the joy and juice out of living!’

In this busy world of twenty-first century, we the human beings have transformed into mechanical beings. No one has any time to spare. Recently, I came across an article about helpline services which provides memorial services if approached. They help performing functions like cremation and the likes. They even have the service of sending people to cry and mourn on the particular occasion. Such modernized our world has become that people are hiring actors to cry for their relatives’ death. People have become superficial.

Take a moment and breath: The fisherman’s village I could barely find words to express how good I felt reading Chanty’s post. You should read it

At times I’m left speechless at the curve-balls that we’re faced with so unexpectedly in our lives. As I’m reflecting on my life I am experiencing how God led me gently towards every emotional growth path possible that He knew was best for me. I’m exiting this phase with intensity in my soul that only God could orchestrate.

A very caring little bird What a sweet, sweet story. I know that I am going to have my sturdy rocking chair to watch the birds and bees go by 🙂

It begins with you A well thought out post. If only we checked what proceeds from our mouth we’ll be more at peace.

You never know that your words could be like a burden to them that they carry on their shoulders for forever and that would be so distressing. You never can tell if a person is dealing with anxiety. The nights are always disturbed. It’s crucial to be kind with each and everyone.

The Cross You’ll find something suitable to any situation that you might be passing through. Take a peek at this passage.

Locomotion…Mundane Monday

Mundane Monday challenge is created to find beauty in almost everything.

The challenge is simple. Find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.

Bicycle, Slippers, photograph, locomotion

When I saw the bicycle nicely tethered to the rail of the foot bridge and the slippers – sadly I didn’t see the owner – all that came to my mind was the word ‘locomotion.’

Assuming both items belong to the same person, he obviously wears the slippers to cycle on his bicycle from place to place, but he left both behind and probably wandered off barefoot. Who knows?

Etihad – Echoes of My Neighbourhood

Roughly translated, Etihad means ‘together, join into one,’ and that’s what the UAE is all about. The United Arab Emirates is made up of 7 Emirates that came to become one Federation, yet each Emirate is autonomous.

The enormous, extraordinary development this region has experienced can only be better appreciated when you see the stark, arid, unforgiving surroundings that it was carved out of.

My foray last week took me to Etihad museum. The museum is located on the same historical site of the Union House, which is where the constitution of the UAE was signed in 1971 to establish its independence.

Etihad is equipped with a library, an education centre, exhibition halls, restaurant/cafe. It offers a series of interactive pavilions, photos, films and more, where visitors can explore the UAE’s history with particular emphasis on the significant period between 1968 and 1974 – through photos, films and more.

It’s always my wish to develop better understanding and appreciation of where ever I am, which is why I haunt museums. Doing so gives one a glimpse into the history and heritage of their surrounding and allows you to see the place through different eyes.

Beautiful photos of fresh snow from Lady Lee’s neighbourhood.

On another hand, after much deliberation, Echoes of my neighbourhood will be evolving a bit. It has run consistently every week for well over a year and I am honestly surprised that I kept up with it. Sometimes, we don’t know how far we can go unless we start.

Going forward, it will evolve into a monthly feature on this blog and no longer weekly. The last Thursday of each month will offer a collage of photographs and post for Echoes. I am in the process of aligning my projects and other interests to create better balance.

You are most welcome to join Echoes of my neighbourhood – last Thursday’s of the month.

Jump in Nothing like wading right in and going after your dreams. An inspiring post that rekindles my thoughts on my video making improvement and skills.

Listening – A better skill Lovely poem, good counsel and indeed, the art of hearing well is to learn when to keep quiet and stop clucking. Just listen. This made me smile 🙂

Put your hands up in the air An insightful post that I totally enjoyed reading. Here’s my comment:

I think this post was made for me. I relate with so much. Caught between and betwixt; not quite mid-life crisis and like you said, mid-life awakening. Awesome and welcome to the land of the 40’s soon 🙂

Sartorial Splendour

Such a simple post, but says many things to me. Sometimes our dreams just seem out of reach, but we find ways to live them. Do step in and say hello.

Why are we museum guards because we can’t make a living with with our dreams and passions, we need to pay our bills and we need health and dental insurance.  Therefore when I get off work and change into my street clothes I go from being a nobody back to me, a human being.  Many of my guard co-workers express ourselves through our clothing, tattoos, piercings projecting an artistic vibe. Then we are on display as the creative human beings we really are.

The Cross What does the cross mean to you? A beautiful, short read.

Don’t allow the enemy to place guilt before you and miss the message from God. God wants to set you free from the present day conditions that are holding you captive.  There is abundant life with Jesus, he was the ransom for us to be Redeemed!

Like a moth, I am attracted to light. These are just cheap pieces of glass hanging down a lamp holder, but they sure look pretty to me and they tinkle when you shake them.

Open Prairies

I have had many adventures far and near, seen beautiful places, met fascinating folk, tried some daring things and eaten grilled bugs for supper. I guess I could reminisce and talk about them for days on end, but I won’t do that today.

Lots of adventures lie ahead of me, a million and more places to see, more people to meet and more things to experience as long as the good Lord permits.

However, the wonderful adventure I am having right now goes a back in time – through the fantastic good old-fashioned book series ‘Love comes softly of Janette Oke’ – to the beautiful 19th century rugged, open country of North America, where trust, faith, love, family, friends, honesty, and hard work were core values sought after and revered.

The current television series ‘When calls the heart,’ is based on her Canadian series novel of the same name.

I am so totally immersed enjoying my read that I could see the wide open prairies and hear the galloping horses and coach in my dreams last night.

Camel Craziness: Al Marmoom Heritage – Echoes of My Neighbourhood

I’ve not seen such number of Camels gathered in one place all my life. Certain things are better witnessed to appreciate them and the Dromedary (Arabian) Camel racing at the just concluded Al Marmoom Heritage Festival is one of those things.

The Festival celebrates a most valued beast of burden (in these parts) with more than a week of thrilling camel races and cultural exhibitions.

We managed to attend on one of the days and the excitement of spectators was simply contagious. Nothing prepared me for the prospect of seeing fleets and fleets of gangly dromedaries in full flight carrying their robotic jockeys on their humps while their robot handlers/trainers raced along beside them in their 4 x 4 SUV’s.

The camels’ hail from all across the Middle East. They are the stars of the show and they compete in various heats during the day, over a 12-day period. Believe me, it’s an exhilarating one-of-a-kind camel-crazy jamboree!

I even got a generous offer of 50 camels as dowry for my old hands from an interesting fellow with tobacco stained teeth. Quite an experience 😉

Have you visited charming Bamberg? Lady Lee sure knows how to take a trip. You can take a vicarious trip online with her 🙂

I would like to offer the free use of any of my photographs that interest you.

Paint Cans

I have no idea what the purpose of the red contraption is, but I found it colourful enough to draw my attention and my rough guess is that it’s something to do with the paintwork, after all, there are cans of paint in there as well 😉
