Just A Thought…

Last year I wrote this and my thoughts haven’t changed much. Apart from the “Me Too” movement, I’m yet to see better strides taken in the direction of ‘women empowerment and safety.’ I’m not advocating for the emasculation of men, but I know that there are many more rivers to cross and we must keep walking not just talking.

So the World celebrated The International Women’s Day yesterday – which is a good thing, don’t get me wrong – but, what happens today?

Do we go back to the shadows where women are beaten, downtrodden, objectified, maligned et cetera, et cetera?

Yesterday, this thought played in my mind all day.

The thought played in my mind that right as we speak, there’s a woman somewhere being raped, pummelled into the ground from manly fists, railroaded into sexual slavery and all unsavoury thoughts you can think of.

I am tired of societies false platitudes and putting band-aids on sore wounds.

We as a people must continue to raise strong women. Women who rise above adversity to say no. Women who call bullshit what it is.  Women who know themselves and love themselves. Women who would make a difference to their progeny and generations to come…

This is not about 1…

jacquelineobyikocha's avatara cooking pot and twisted tales

I’ve been thinking of revamping this badge below for something fresh.

Sharing, Blogs, Networking, Growing Readership, Connection, Bloggers, Blog Posts

Initially, I thought that I would produce the badge by myself, but an afterthought to throw it open to others came to me – after all, ‘featured posts’ is primarily to share and promote posts from other bloggers. It’s for all of you.

So, what do you think? Can you muster up something snazzy in the next one week?

All badge entries will be displayed and votes cast for the favourite. The selected badge will be used for featured posts series for the year and the contributors will receive credit with their sites URL link constantly attached to the badge.

Let’s have fun! Share so others can participate. Thank you.

Today’s featured blogs are:

After The Tremors…

Borrowing the words from Jim Reeves ‘We thank thee,’ indeed I am most thankful this morning for a newborn day.

Grateful, Every Day, A Gift, Life
I woke up to the news of tremors felt in the UAE following the powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake which shook the Iran-Iraq border late Sunday, killing at least 145 people.

Whilst in the lift, my neighbour was happy to regale details of how he felt the ground shake last night and I felt so glad that I, yours truly snoozed through the shake and turbulence, however, that left me pondering at the transient nature of life as I took my brisk early morning walk.

Each day, we take the gift of tomorrow for granted. We make plans for tomorrow with so much assuredness, our daily lives often lived in auto-drive and rat race. That tomorrow just fades into another day with lots of unfulfilled hopes and dreams, whilst we wait for the next tomorrow.

Many have lost their lives in this natural disaster; their hopes and dreams brought to a grinding halt. That’s the way it is…a time to live and a time to die, but as we live, we must endeavour to make the best of each day and appreciate the beauty of life that surrounds us as it is.

Every day, find three things to be grateful for.

Have a great week.

Unbridled Poetry?

In Collaboration with Collin

colinandray's avatarA New Direction Perhaps?

I was recently contacted by a fellow blogger Jacqueline Oby-Ikoch with a suggestion that we promote each others books. She, and other Indie authors, appreciates that the most difficult part of producing a book is the marketing. Writing a book is challenging, and editing it ready for publishing is even more  challenging… but nobody will ever buy a book that they do not know exists! Marketing can be very expensive, or simply persistent work on the part of the author, so an opportunity to present to a different Blogging “audience” is welcomed. The following link goes to an introduction to my “Just Thinking” book which was recently featured on  Jacqueline’s Blog –

Just Thinking: By Colin Chappell – Author Zone

Now allow me to introduce Jacqueline Oby-Ikoch’s book “Unbridled” with the text provided to me by Jacqueline.

Unbridled, the second poetry collection by Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha was released on 3rd August 2017.

Unbridled

Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

I began reading poetry back when I was about 8.  I had a certain type I liked – “free verse” they called it.  It didn’t rhyme, it didn’t have meters and cadences.  What I considered poetry was the flowing words that would capture, break, open, touch (any or all) of your heart.  Grasping your soul in tight clenches so that your breath can’t even escape, for someone else has felt this same way that you have and put it together in a rhythm that no dance could ever accompany it.  The first book of poetry I had, my mom gave to me on a birthday.  I still have it.  I started writing poetry at the age of 10 and at the age of 12 had worn contests and had a public showing of my written words on display at a local mall.  I’m telling of this, because…

Weekend Tea Party Invitation

Here’s Your Invitation.

jacquelineobyikocha's avatara cooking pot and twisted tales

Well there you go, with Daily Post sending out a prompt for tea, it seems they are in sync with me.

Y’all know that this girl here loves a good party even if it’s a virtual one, so consider this an invitation to the monthly blog party 🙂

These days I’ve reduced my coffee intake to just a cup of decaf in the mornings. For now, I am imbibing more of Chai Latte or Karak Chai, especially in the evenings when I kick back to read blogs and round up for the day. Drinking more coffee would only make my hyper active mind and insomnia worse because my mind has been consumed with thoughts of my book projects and how to make my second poetry book a success.

Let’s get together for tea and scones this weekend.

Party Time: Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th July

Look forward to seeing you.
