The Patched Ones…

Here are the beautiful ones.

Hidden in the shadows of the glittery ones,

many times they’ve been broken,

and unevenly patched by the potter’s hands,

yet their value is priceless.

This is about us. Many are broken. Many are hurting. Many have forgotten their true worth. Many are clinging to past mistakes and allowing them to dictate their present circumstance. Many hold on to their pain and weave unforgiveness into their soul. They forget to put down their burden at the Masters’ feet not knowing that in the potters’ hands, their broken pieces are gathered, refined and made far better than the original piece. Just like the Japanese practice of golden joinery ‘Kintsugi,’ – when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful. No one is ever too broken to be fixed.

Come to me all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will grant you rest. Matthew: 11: 28 – 29

What About You? Affirmation Challenge Day 8

‘Time brings along with it many dark days, but if we wait for a little while, we will find countless bright ones.’ Jacqueline

Doing today’s affirmation challenge has been a bit difficult ‘cos my mind literally blipped to a stop since I heard the shocking news of Anthony Bourdain’s suicide. This, coming after just a few days of Kate Spade’s passing is worrisome. I enjoyed Bourdain’s series on CNN ‘Parts Unknown’ and learnt so much from them.

I recall many times that I wondered out loud about how fantastic his job must be. An epitome of a successful, zestful man, yet he obviously had deeper struggles than our eyes’ could see.

Please call a helpline, turn to a friend or even a stranger. You are not alone. Our problems are what we make of them – big or small – and a problem shared is half-solved.

MandibelleIn the end, we all become stories”- Margaret Atwood.

I never liked all her books and frankly, ‘The Handmaids Tale’ disturbed me as a book. I’ve watched the TV show it’s a bit better. Perhaps sometimes what we picture is worse than the truth when we read. Either way, I think this quote is apt. No one in the future will know who we were as a person. Thus, certain pieces of are remembered as stories, which can be truthful, but also don’t take into account personal thoughts or experiences as those are hidden once we have passed. But too many cultures, stories are a kind of immortality.

The Gatecrashers…

As I think of Kate Spade, my mind goes to this poem that I wrote which can be found in my poetry book Unbridled.’ You can read Unbridled for free.

The Gatecrashers

Uninvited, they arrive. I smell them from miles away.

Their radar zeros into the crowd, they steal in to join the happy gang.

Their presence disturbs and stifles, like thieves, they are up to no good.

Planting themselves on both sides like guards, the silent battle of my mind begins.

My other self, the invisible one vacates in a hurry to watch them from the other side

‘Do they know your secrets?’ depression asks in its know-it-all voice.

‘I bet you wouldn’t be the belle of the ball if they knew,’ loneliness opines.

Lips crack a smile, false laughter rings in the room,

intelligent conversation over glasses of wine;

breezy kisses blown into the air of cheek sides,

troubles forgotten maybe till tomorrow or less;

We do know how to throw great parties,

our mannequin faces caked in powder

I count minutes before it’s alright to escape;

With depression and loneliness dogging each step I take,

making such ruckus as we jostle out of the room.

Mental illness and depression is no respecter of persons and knows no boundaries. It is a silent killer and fast becoming an epidemic. An insidious illness that robs the sufferer of so much. We must stop the stigma. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. We must keep talking and keep the channels of listening open. Please take care of yourself and each other.

Excellent Quote From Yesterday:

 “The Lord Will Fight for You. You need only Be Still.” – Exodus 14:14

At Times we want the world to move according to our schedule, our wants and needs, our whims. But when we try to solve problems without prayer and Gods Guidance, our burdens are too much. While others break without God’s strength, we stay standing, God is our Rock, and the one who will fight for us, even though this means we must relinquish control. For any human who prays and asks for Gods guidance, you can be sure God’s Support will provide relief. His answers are unexpected and sometimes, an outright ‘no.’ But often when we don’t receive everything we desire at present it’s to receive greater things ahead of us! Things that lack the suffering of our old desires.

Excellent Quotes From Yesterday:

Mandibelle “The world is changed by your example, not by your opinion” — Paul Coelho-
I think this one is pretty straightforward. I’m not saying I’m always able to do it, or that everyone can be a positive example of action and change 24-7, but I think it’s a worthy goal. Even small actions change the world and those living in it, often in ways, we don’t ever realize.

Bernadette: Thinking of someone to love each day keeps your resentment away!” Richard Carlson

Oba: I am royalty, encapsulated in grace, endowed and empowered with positivity to nourish my space with Love-OBA

Oladewalaura: Learning is a gift even when pain is the teacher.
We all pass through pain before getting great success so it is not seen to be pain, it is believed to be the ability to attain greater height.

Winifred Mena-Ajakpovi: I am blessed beyond measure. I am made of more. Good things come to me

Jose Cosme: I have faith and confidence that I have everything I need to share my gifts and talents with the world.

Boma Anikwe: I’m me. I don’t live according to my dictates .i believe in divine orders, yet, audacious enough to make mistakes and learn from them because I am not my mistake. Everything in life happens in its set time. No need to rush into anything.
I only engage my time usefully yielding to the counsel of the Holy Spirit and acquiring new skills that will help me shine in my set time! I haven’t lost anything, no! I only gained experience. I have no regrets. That’s why I live and walk in dominion every day.

The Daily Post

All Time Favourites…

I must say that I felt initial dismay and a silent ‘oh no’ hummed in my head when I read that The Daily Post prompts for the weekly photo challenge is winding down. What a bummer! I feel like my favourite neighbour has just moved out of town, like my age-old, worn and comfy dressing gown has finally fallen apart at the seams.

The challenge is/was a powerhouse of creativity and inspiration and I remember many Saturdays when I would check out the prompt to ginger my creative juice. Anyway, change is a constant thing, otherwise, life will stagnate and become a monotonous bore. Who knows, maybe something equally as interesting will come up.

When I think of it, I realize that I have no favourites photos per se, but there were some prompts that I really enjoyed and got some messages whilst doing them especially the one below.

To the friendly editors of the weekly photo challenge, thank you for all your inspiration and support. You fostered a warm community, nurtured a whole lot of us and encouraged our growth. My warm appreciations and regards. See you around.
