In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Lazy Learners.”
I fretted to get good grades, but that was when I was very young.
Now I fret to do my best because that is what pleases me to do.
However I am not going to fret myself to death;
For those things that I want to learn but haven’t gotten round to doing them for various reasons that are unavoidable,
Learning process is ad infinitum. We learn till the day we die.
I have a long list of things that I would like to learn, because it pleases me to know them.
What I do each day, is to learn something new, no matter how minutiae,
God willing even in my dotage, I shall trudge on to those martial arts classes,
I shall probably learn a bit of Japanese along the way;
Basket weaving for the fun of it,
Taking better pictures through practicing;
It’s a long list of things to learn…..
It just never ends..

When we stop learning, we die and sadly, I see around me many walking dead. How very blessed we are not to be among them.

Definitely! The day we stop learning is the day that we start to die inside out!

Jacqueline, I am a learner too! And I wouldn’t say I’m lazy about it unless it’s really not of interest. At 60, I’m computer literate–more so than my younger counterparts sometimes. I love InDesign, Photoshop, my Nikon D5000, walking, reading, and more. Keep on learning!

I’m right with you, friend. I don’t really know why I want to know new things now that I will never get any pay for any new skills, But the older I get the more I wish I had paid more attention to American History, Greek mythologies, geometry – you name it. I want to know!

And also there’s the chance a radio station might call and offer me a free ticket to the fair if I know who first built a road in Mesopotamia!

Absolutely agree! Every day is a new opportunity for learning and observing all that this incredible life has to offer! I just love your attitude! I hope you are considering a book of your reflections on life. Your voice is gentle and wise and well-traveled… almost like you are giving out sage advice, even though you’re so young! And it could be layered with anecdotes and sayings and reminiscences from Nigeria to showcase the culture and all that is beautiful there. I can just see it in my mind! Just a thought! You are a very special person, my dear – really. xo
