What My Mama Said To Me…17

Wisdom, Mother Knows Best, Proverbs, Mother and Child

Mama said to me, baby,
it’s always a waste of your time pulling others down
‘cos you’ll end up beneath them.

The Little Flame..

The Fire within, Anger, Poetry, Rage, Minor and Major, Burning

Our silence sufficed. We thought that

if we didn’t talk about those micro things

that made us uncomfortable,

they would disappear.

So, we walked the fringes of invisibility.

Hiding our thoughts from fear and shame

hoping that no one notices

the tears running down our face.

Our silence became brooding anger.

Micro things became macro things

and in the fringe of invisibility, we plotted;

fueled by the stokes of little flames.

An Igbo proverb says, ‘when we overlook the small pot, it puts off the fire.’ Never underestimate the little things, for they can become the big things.

What My Mama Said To Me…16

Wisdom, Mother Knows Best, Proverbs, Mother and Child

Mama said to me, baby
never go borrowing
those things meant for others

or

be prepared
to live with the discomfort
that accompanies them.

What My Mama Said To Me…15

Wisdom, Mother Knows Best, Proverbs, Mother and Child

Mama always said to me, baby,
always search inwards first,
as deeply as you can bear to dig in;

‘cos most times
the answers we scurry around to find
lies latent within us.

I Pause To Play..

Image result for images of pause

and my roller coaster crashed!
it came to a jarring halt
my mojo kinda left my heart
pursuing green paper to pay the bills
with little time to sleep a wink
several hungry mouths to feed
my brain almost has no time to think
the greenback has become the king
the king of this jungle called life
I need to get my mojo back

Please forgive my tardiness in responding to your comments. I’m usually not this rude but like my people would say ‘something bigger than the cricket has entered the crickets mouth.’

My life has been a bumpier ride of late, events beyond my control have been trying to take the drivers wheel, but I refuse and trying to get back the grip. I took a pause so that I can get back into the game asap. I have taken odd jobs to keep body and soul together as I ride the rough tide. All is well with me, yet turbulent.

Be well and I’ll be reaching you soon. I miss you.

What My Mama Said To Me…12

Wisdom, Mother Knows Best, Proverbs, Mother and Child

Mama said to me, baby,
you can’t stand on the ground
and be pointing up at the ripe palm nuts,

You must be willing
to get your fingers stained with oil palm
in order to enjoy its succulence.

What My Mama Said To Me…11

Wisdom, Mother Knows Best, Proverbs, Mother and Child

Mama said to me, baby,
grumbling from Jericho to Jerusalem
is never going to make your dough rise;

not when you’ve failed
to add much-needed yeast
and to give it the required kneading.
