Flames of the forest and more Echoes of my neighbourhood 22

On Thursday’s, I share pictures about ‘Echos of my Neighbourhood.

I would like to invite you to participate. The challenge is quite simple.

Every Thursday, share a photo of bits and pieces of wherever you are at any point in time. It could be a house, backgrounds of your neighbourhood, activities and so forth and you can tag it Echos of my Neighbourhood, add my link to your post so that I will get the ping from your post.

Every other Thursday, I will publish a post with the links of all those who participated the previous week.

This is just a fun way of getting to see more of the World around us through your eyes since we cannot all be at those places, we could, at least, see them through you.

It’s all good that the trees and plants are blooming at this time of the year. The flame of the forest’s orange blooms are vibrant and offers people a colourful cool spot to take cover from the Sun that’s literally baking hot.

During the weekend’s, I always find a couple of hours when I disengage from family affairs and take that time to meander a bit about town and just be by myself.

All the photos in this series were taken last week Saturday. I traipsed or rather, took the bus, train and taxi to different parts of town and most weekends, tourists flood the city in droves.

We e-zoomed around various neighbourhoods on our laptops, pads, phones, and got a peek into what lovely folks are doing.

Like Mercury Colliding: Receiving natures serendipitous gift on your birthday can be such a delightful blessing. Kat makes me want to grow some Magnolia’s.

Jazzy Tower: Beautiful moments in life captured with a great sense of satisfaction.

Giggles and Tales: Just gorgeous photos of serenity and Stella.

Don’t horde the beauty of the life around you, just for yourself. Do share with us😉

She is amazing at describing love and life in her poems. She creates such beautiful images with her words. Truly, she is a talented writer and I’m so excited to have her poetry book and to continue reading through it.

Besotted Readers…Every day beautiful people # 63

“Books are a uniquely portable magic.” Stephen King

Readers[1]

We buy books like the magical garden for the children but derive utmost pleasure from reading them and being child-like again 😉

Sometimes, I wonder who gets the most pleasure, the adult who is still a child at heart or the child who soaks up the words in innocent wonder?

I know a lot of us who enter bookstores and come out buying more books than we planned to 🙂

I am guilty all the time.

From the very first poem, “Dreams,” this book captivates with passionate and perceptive words. Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha captures a broad expanse of the human experience in this book of richly layered poems.

“Very little is needed to make a happy life; it’s all within yourself, in your way of thinking.” Marcus Aurelius

“Life is pretty much what we make of it and to finding peace and pause in the midst of a hectic day is the sweet spot.” Jacqueline

The weather has heated up quite a bit, but these men are able to find some repose on their push carts. The heat actually tends to make one feel a bit lethargic.

Call me inquisitive or curious and you are probably right, but I can’t help loving to watch people. It’s called Social Engineering 😉

While waiting for the train, I sat for a quick coffee and sandwich and enjoyed the warmth exuding from the young couple and their gorgeous baby who were seated near me.

My nosy self couldn’t help engaging the Pakistani couple in a conversation. Seeing a man show his wife some tender affection is not a common sight over here and their quiet joy in each other was simply infectious and heartwarming.

The photos are deliberately blurred at their request. It was a privilege to be around them. I went away smiling 🙂

It’s all in my mind…

Train[1]

Each day in my life is an adventure and that’s how I truly see it. I don’t have to climb Everest or Himalayas to experience the exhilaration that I get from a roaming mind.

I find out that one could get to Macchu Picchu and still feel empty when their mind is not in it or open enough to absorb the beauty of the experience. A once in a lifetime travel experience with a cantankerous friend who found fault in everything around her is one that I’m not in a haste to repeat.

Reading a highly stimulating book is the beginning of an adventure for me. Connecting with fantastic bloggers is an enriching adventure. Writing is an adventurous medium for me.

Ditching my car and taking a bus or train ride around town is an adventure that allows me to roam about parts of town that I would probably not pay attention to if I’m driving. I always end up chatting with total strangers and coming away feeling as if I just received a present.

In my younger days, I thought that to have an adventure only meant going away on an exotic trip, but having had the opportunity to travel quite a bit, I must admit that adventure starts with giving one’s mind the freedom to expand in scope, to appreciate the beauty and culture that surrounds you and to let your imagination magnify in multi-dimensions.

I realised that years long before now when I rode the jam-packed, rusty buses in Lagos with passengers practically seated on each other’s laps I was having an adventure and even now at UAE Exchange, as I listen to the conductor announce the various train stops, I watch wide-eyed as people from all walks of life step off the platform into the train and grab the overhead hanging strap before the train trundles along.

Saying hello to the tall lady beside me, I learn that she’s Irish. She’s on vacation and was just coming from Indonesia.

Timeout…Every day beautiful people # 59

“It’s always good to take a little time out of your busy life to focus just on yourself and if you’ve got a friend to share a cup with, that’s goodness tasted and remembered.” Jacqueline

Friends_drinking[1]

It’s a weekend good folks. There’s nothing like a little timeout to chill and natter with a good friend with some music in the background, or,

to chill all by yourself with a compelling good read, soft music, a warm cuppa or glass of cold drink – whichever suits you best 🙂

Enjoy. Love and light

Out of the silent breath

I listen to the tinkles of the water,

the thrums of the guitar and the deep rhythm of the bass.

No words are said, as you stare deeply into my eyes.

The look caught within your pupils, mirrors all the love trapped inside

aching to flow out, a syllable at a time. Just like that soft jazz.

Catching the dates and other randoms…Echoes of my Neighbourhood #21

This is just a fun way of getting to see more of the World around us through your eyes since we cannot all be at those places, we could, at least, see them through you.

Dates, dates everywhere! It’s the date season and the palms are burgeoning with fruits. A lot are bearing little bags that are tied under to harvest them for eating and producing various types of sweet stuff.

I’ll probably try my hand doing some date juice and see how it turns out.

The random photos were taken during the course of the week of perambulating to and fro office and about town.

From armchairs, we got to meander about and see what other folks are up to in their neighbourhoods. Let’s see some of yours 🙂

Following Seas, Luanne’s photos are so serene and lovely. Take a look. Thank you Luanne for sharing with us 🙂

Saba online: Some of these photos have mysterious quality like the cover page of a thriller. Saba thank you for joining echoes 🙂

Like Mercury Colliding: Kat always has fascinating stuff to show us. Now, these are truly interesting neighbourly trees with lots of character. Take a peek. You might find a storyline in there.

Giggles and Tales: What a spread! I got fat just looking!

Thoughts and entanglements: Coney Island artists are talented and they know how to have fun too. Such work makes me smile 🙂
