Midnight Motivations and Musings 79

Challenges will come and sometimes they will shake your faith and hope. These tribulations present themselves to taunt and test you. That’s called life.

Unexpected incidentals of life happen when we are busy making plans about other things that we want to do, so in order to brace ourselves for these little bumps, we must equip our system with buffers like hope.

Hope is not an abstract word. It’s a very active word that lives and grows when we build on it.

It’s like a safety net or emergency funds that we draw on when the need arises.

How do we build up hope? I’ll be sharing a post specifically targeted at building hope on Sunday.

Love and Light

Out of the silent breath

Never leave me lonely

With words left unsaid

You walk away into the dark

Like a mist, that melts away.

Midnight Motivations and Musings # 78

Now and again, I read articles that people write or listen to people where they sound as if there’s nothing good about their lives.

I have been privy to desperate cries of help and despair, but what saddens me is not the desperation, what saddens me is when the despairing soul feels so hopeless that they’ve given up hope on themselves, that no amount of counsel and reasoning seems to penetrate.

No one is guaranteed a breezy life that’s not laden with struggles, for it’s out of our tests that we obtain our testimonies.

The truth is that no one can walk through individual tribulations for another. No two people have the same mantle or message, but what they can do is to hold your hand while you wade through the mess.

Sometimes, you may not even be fortunate to find someone to hold on to. You hold on to God. He’s the ultimate fortress, refuge and present help in the time of need.

Out of the silent breath

Brand me whole as only you can

That the entire score of me

Knows nothing but the fullness of you.

We spend valuable time waiting for the best opportunities, the best time, the best scenario and creating a million and one reasons why we are unqualified to create our own opportunities.

What if that expected opportunity never comes our way? What if no one else believes in us sufficiently to want to hand us such chances?

What would you do? Will you just curl up and watch the time pass or would you take a good look around you and see the little openings that surround you?

Like the saying goes, that opportunity comes but once, however, it has to find you willing and ready.

Out of the silent breath

Dance to your heart’s delight my African child, until echoes of your stamping feet, beating heart; bright eyes, smiling lips; and waving hands, resonates over and over like thunder claps, reverberating throughout the Universe.

Sometimes bad experiences hold us captive more than we even know.

They subtly dictate and become the benchmark for our future exploits and endeavours, that we inadvertently shortchange our lives with experiences which are in the past.

As life is a culmination of experiences, we shouldn’t allow the mishaps of years gone by steal into our hope for the future, that’s simply the way the known and unknown enemy operates by reminding you of all the areas in your life where you failed so that you shouldn’t expect to succeed.

Even if you failed in so many things, there’s a chance that you’ll succeed in this one, if only you stay the course and stop looking at that old syllabus that didn’t quite work.

Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha’s poems portray images that stare us right in the face. Images of love, joy, death, pain, challenges, violation, and freedom. She writes in a language that’s rich in imagery, earthy, honest, vulnerable, yet full of the promise of hope, of loving and of Grace. A collection of light and dark soulful prose.

When you’ve got somewhere to go, distractions will crop up and pop out from every available woodwork and if you are not mindful and focused, you’ll probably spend far too much invaluable time facing shadows that are not worthwhile.

The truth that you tell yourself in times like this is the truth that you come to believe. If you say ‘oh, I can’t go through this,’ that’s true; if you say, ‘I am going to crack this,’ that’s also your truth.

Whichever way you chose to go, into the light or in the shadows, will determine your reality.

Midnight Motivation and Musings # 75…

Who_are_you[1]

Who are you?

This singular question is one that throws a lot of people off balance and they begin to grapple for adequate answers.

Who are you is not necessarily synonymous with ‘what do you do?’

You could do many different things career-wise over  your lifetime, yet remain who you are if those things don’t have any profound effect in changing your intrinsic characteristics.

Are you able to denude yourself by peeling away all the onion layers to find the truth of the being hidden inside?

Our passion can help us uncover who we are as it leads us on the journey of self-discovery, however, our passion can also serve as a mask for not looking deep enough to gain a better understanding of who we are.

It’s only when you know yourself, that you begin to know your purpose.

Keep pondering over this question as often as possible in the solitude of your heart until who you are, crystallizes before your eyes.

At no age does the learning of the mind stop except the strictures that we place on ourselves.

Most times the term being set in our ways that we loosely use is actually a self-imposed and nice way of saying, I don’t want to be bothered to change.

For as long as we can keep our minds open to assimilate knowledge, our inner core is rejuvenated, constantly growing and the perspectives of our horizons remains broad.

We are all a whirlpool of dreams and ideas but a lot of us undermine our capabilities and always nip dreams in the bud with comments like ‘oh I couldn’t,’ while looking on as others go about trying to achieve theirs.

I can’t, I couldn’t, I am afraid and so  many of such self limiting statements are defeatist and they are like monsters that simply grow bigger with the smallest confirmation.

Yes you can, but only when you’ve tried to. You’ve got nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain, if only you will have the audacity to try and have fun while at it.

When we take a moment to think of the fact that the days of our lives are truly short, we should also take the moment to reflect on how we can live a more purposeful life.

If you are blessed to get to 90 years, that’s just 32,850 days. Viewed from the point of days, it’s not that long so each day spent counts.

Each day’s decision to live happy, to live well, to live and make positive impacts no matter how small, to live unselfishly matters….

It is these decisions that should shape our lives and not the decisions that we failed to make.

Live, Love, Be Happy!

Dreams[1]

Not all soil is good for planting due to its acidity or other toxic properties.

Likewise, not all circumstances that surround us will be supportive in nurturing you to the best of your potentials.

Sometimes, you have to make the smart decision and keep your dreams alive but away from toxicity.

Once you recognise such traits, it might not be easy to discard of such circumstances (they might be your family or job), but with wisdom, you can circumvent such characters and keep moving on without relent.
