2015 in review

Well, you don’t say 😊 dear WP monkeys have been very busy. Fantastic synopsis for 6 months worth of blogging. My appreciations guys.

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2015 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 31,000 times in 2015. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 11 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Why Our Resolutions Are So Last Season…

1451369671545[1]

We are trying too hard. We are not trying hard enough.

At certain points reminders of where one failed or didn’t get it right pops up.

The usual nag of the annoying voice even sometimes says ‘why bother?’ Since we can’t have what we want instantly; better jobs, excellent health, abs to die for, a wonderful partner, more money, fame, fabulous lifestyles and the whole nine yards – since it is life in the digital century – we feel deflated and defeated.

The inner critic hoots and snickers and smirks at our ambitious attempts to set those 30 years worth of resolutions aright.

But hang on! Just wait a minute. Why the fall backs, the lapses, the frustration, the giving in and giving up, most especially with our New Year resolutions?

I have spent weeks dwelling on the concept of resolution. What it entails and I am sure there is so much to think about, in respect of this concept.

At the on-set, we set off all gung-ho, with sufficient zeal to launch a new float on River Thames, but just before the clock says quarter past on the years calendar, our zeal is at half-mast, deflated or totally gone and negativity sets in. ‘A vicious cycle.’

It dawned on me that the fact of the new way of life, which is the instant gratification of going for something and getting it hot and delivered and with the release of attendant happy endorphin, we drive ourselves round the bend, burning ourselves with the pressure to succeed and when the expected success doesn’t arrive fast enough, the resultant feeling of failure sets in.

Failure is a two way wrench. It either tightens one to push harder to excel, or it deflates one to give in and give up.

I came to understand that the problem lay not in the setting of the goals, but in the perspective of approaches in achieving these set goals. They are seen as something that should be done, dealt with and then we move on to the next acquisition.

However, if we begin to view these goals as lifetime goals to be inculcated and maintained, would our perspectives and approach differ? Would we stick to the plan a wee bit longer and not say, ‘oh well’ I will try and set better resolutions again next year.

We do know that Life does not happen in quarterly allocations but a cumulative result of each day and how we live it.

So, what is it going to be? New Year Resolutions or Lifestyle Solutions?

A striking of balance that stretches over time, or temporal instant gratifications that nose-dive once the spirit flags?

I choose the balanced Lifestyle Solutions that allows for the ebbs and flows of the days of our lives.

DO NOT base your Lifestyle solutions on that tailored for someone else.

That will simply run the copy-cat ragged, especially if the vision pursued is neither yours, nor does it resonate with you.

Taking the time to determine what truly reflects what I want to see in my life, is a journey worth undertaking on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and not just a list of hopeful aspirations which are drawn out on the 31st of December of each year, run after for a few good weeks and then shoved into the cabinet to get moldy or to serve as a nice place for the spiders to weave their web, once the veneer of The New Year wears off.

Here is to better Lifestyle Solutions and a brilliant 2016. Cheers.

‘Blessed are you, awesome people.’

I was chopping this bell pepper and was so excited to find the baby one tucked right in the middle. It delighted me. Yes such a mundane act made me feel happy about the circle of life. I hope I didn’t kill a baby bell pepper 😉

Waiting…

The lady with the umbrella

She slowly shuffled down the alley, her old, pink umbrella barely kept the light drizzle from dripping through.

She looked at the piece of telegram in her hand, it had yellowed with age and handling, yet the faint words were emblazoned on her mind.

He had said to wait for him at the old alley, where they always had their secret rendezvous, away from the prying eyes of goldfish bowl town of theirs.

They were to leave town and start anew; but he never came.

Year after year, she faithfully trudged back. Patiently waiting for him to arrive and take her away, but no news; nothing to show that he ever existed.

At ‘The Home’ they looked at her with eyes of pity. They called her fancy names: delusional, dementia and indulged her racy thoughts.

The last laugh would be hers.

Each time she dressed to go, sure that it would be that day, though it has been 28 years of going to the alley to wait.

He would come.

He promised.

Pete is a man of his words.

M stands for Memories…

1451143930607[1]

Life is too short and dentition tends to fall out as we age.

So smile, while you still have them to show.

Quick interesting fact:

When people sing together in a choir, their heartbeats synchronise.

It’s always lovely to start the week and each day as much as we can with a smile and positive outlook. I find Leannenz Monday memes interesting.

Do have a fruitful and blessed week awesome people.

Dating At Last!…Husband Wanted Urgently!

Black couples in love

”Hold it right there.” Tess tried to rein in her runaway trail of thoughts.

”Don’t go getting all mushy right now and seeing visions girl.” She admonished herself.

”It’s just a date.”

”Repeat slowly after me.”

”Just. A. Date.”

The two voices in her head continued their tussling, as she pursed her lips in admiration of her new cherry, shimmery lipstick that matched the gloss of her new O.P.I nail polish.

”Yeah right! It’s just the 9th date in a line of quick successive dates. Ha!” Snickered inner Goddess

”With the same guy.” Goddesses inner cynical eyes were raised.

”Who by the way is ole fancy pants, pompous Humphrey.”

”Who would have thought it? That he could pack such a punch in his kiss. Girl, you are so hooked and reeled in.” Goddess proclaimed.

”Hey! Cut the guy some slack.” Protested Cautious voice.

”Okay. Let’s calm down.” Tess interjected into the muddled log jam of the two rioting voices in her head.

”I admit that I was a tad too hasty to jump to conclusions and in summarizing him” She accepted her default.

”I just thought that he was always too full of himself in Church, you know.” As the son of the Vicar, he always cut across like butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth and all those choir girls batting their eyelashes and singing out their hearts to him, just made me want to puke.”

”You could see the trail of their eyes and their flouncy skirts swishing flirtatiously and panting after him and I think he knew it too.”

”See, a girl has to keep herself out of such quagmire, you know.” ”I can’t be seen drooling after a fine brother and hanging onto his very last word like my life depended on it.” She concluded.

”Oh, oh! You’ve sure been paying him a lot of attention, haven’t you?” You are practically drooling right now Tess,” Goddess chimed in. You have checked your time like, what? The umpteenth time!”

”Ever since the accidental cinema date, your eyes have gone all starry, you are wearing all the girlie stuff that you have and fussing so much over your appearance. I know that smile girl.” ”Just be careful!” ”That’s all am saying.” I don’t trust all that gentlemanly courtesy and all that fineness wrapped in his sleek BM. He hasn’t even made the expected sleek fresh finger moves. No booty calls. I am kinda worried girl. That’s not the usual way these beaus move you know.” ”I wonder what tricks he is up to?” Sage Goddess queried.

”Hey! Goddess just shush.” ”Come off it!”  ”There are still a couple of good guys out there you know.” ”I have a good feeling about Humphrey.” Said Cautious voice

The little birdie doorbell chimed. ”He’s here.” ”Comport yourself.” She quickly smoothed her skirt and a quick spritz of her CK Contradiction perfume, she opened the door to let Humphrey in.

Who Suffers Most?…

1451202785273[1]

How can I not forgive you;
For that which I may be guilty of too?

How can I be so hypocritical;
With fierce darts so critical?

For it is great Grace,
That saves me as a Scapegrace.

Buffeted and Battered by Transgressions,
I bow to my knees, folded within.

Searching to recognize my peace,
As hot tongues of the brethren’s accuser,

Chastises from within the inner realm,
A quiver full of squirmy thoughts.

How can I not….

For to forgive you
Is to forgive myself.

Puckered For A Kiss…

A kiss under the mistletoe

Hello he said, flustered she smiled.
I am Dave; I am Susan, she replied.
May I see you again sometime? He asked.
She came and he was glad.
Under the mistletoe, she puckered for a kiss.
