The long and short of it…Stream of consciousness Saturday.

When I was young, I longed for many things and to be many things, some that I had no clear understanding of, but as I grow older and longer in the tooth, I realize that the longing for self-actualization means more to me than anything else.SoCS badge 2015

With this longing to realize my aspirations and to use my potentials to it’s optimum performance comes a most deep longing for World Peace.

As long as we live in such a divisive World, the length of our days are shortened in our quality of living which will be corroded by stress. We should remember that it’s not how long we live that matters, but how well.

As we all long for peace is not enough just to talk about it. We have to live it. We have to lend support in stopping the divisions, segregation, violence and intolerance.

The government is made by people. We are the government and our actions, interactions and pens wield far more strength than we know. Use your voice positively and stop adding to the long-term disease of social issues by fueling it with vitriol.

As for my dreams, the long and short of it is that I know that as long as I keep pushing and don’t give up, each day my success is brought closer with a step.

My strides may not be long and fast enough, but my snail speed is better than sitting down, building castle’s in the air and doing nothing.

Thank you Linda for this week’s prompt. Your stirring words are always apt 🙂

Midnight motivation and musings

Midnight Motivation and Musings 105

Worry and fear are intermarried and no one likes how both make you feel, yet it’s often difficult to stop and they tend to grow in enormity until they become huge factors that occupy they mind of the troubled person.

Worrying can be helpful if it spurs you to take the necessary actions to solve a problem.

However, if you’re preoccupied with all the what if’s and the worst-case scenarios, it turns into fear and becomes a problem.

Persistent doubts and fears can be paralyzing because they will sap your emotional energy, raise your anxiety levels even induce possible panic attacks and affect your daily life as well as how you view things.

Persistent worrying is a mental habit that you can break, but it will require training your mind and body to stay calm while maintaining a more positive perspective towards life.

There’s a little trick that I’ve been implementing for years now and it’s helped me in enormous ways.

  • I created a worry period by choosing a specific time and mostly early in the morning when I wake up and about to do my meditative prayer. This way, I de-clutter my mind as much as possible and reduce all sources of anxiety before my day takes off. If possible choose a set time and place for worrying and during the worry period, let yourself dwell on the issues on your mind but for the rest of the day, maintain a worry-free zone.  The best way to get a handle on this is by writing down the things bothering you and go over them one by one, but only for the amount of time you’ve specified for it.

Having a period to worry over issues is effective because it helps you to break the habit of dwelling on them when you’ve got other things to do. You are neither suppressing these thoughts but simply apportioning time to them as you do your other daily activities and as you keep up with the practice you will find that you have the ability to postpone your anxious thoughts and to be in better control.

All the best.

Jacqueline

Friday Fiction in Five Sentences · Short Stories

The Passport – Friday fiction in five sentences.

He was tired and dreaded going home.

Each day was worse than the day before, as her tyranny seemed to graduate a notch per day.

Nothing he did was good enough and she had practically turned him into her slave – working and handing over his earnings to her, cooking, cleaning and serving her hand and foot, yet she whined.

Each time she threatened to call the immigration on him.

Each time he wondered if the price he was paying was worth the passport he hoped to get through this hellish marriage, since their love had flown out of the window.

Echos Of My Neighbourhood

Night scenes of a sleepless city – Echoes of my neighbourhood 25

On Thursday’s, I share pictures about ‘Echos of my Neighbourhood.

I would like to invite you to participate. The challenge is quite simple and you can find out more about it through this link.

This week, I bring you some bits of night life in my neighbourhood.

I don’t exaggerate when I tell you that this city is sleepless and as the weather heats up more and more, night business grows longer into the night and runs quite efficiently. The entire place glows with light therefore belies the true sense of the lateness.

I went to a Ramadan night market exhibition and up till 1 am, people were trooping in and out of the venue.

For a Middle Eastern city, it’s quite safe and people are comfortable to mill around that late.

On our e-travel on Echoes, Lady Lee brought us a smile and took us to Wales on caravan cabins and a tree house, the greenery at Giggles and Tales were quite lush, then those doors of faith from Making Peace with Life did give us some pause before we took off to Charles Waugh’s  beautiful, story book neighbourhood .

This is total fun and you shouldn’t be left out. Do share some bits and pieces of your World with us, please. Thank  you😉
