It’s a no-brainer that I should follow my heart when I toppled over in love with my husband, right?
Or, should I say, when he didn’t let me get away?
I was so focused on building a career. I had a fantastic job with The Delegation Of The European Union. A young lady with a bright future and a job that opened up so many doors and windows.
Then love came calling and stole my heart away and before I could even say Jack Robinson, he whisked me off to the altar, after a whirlwind courtship of six months.
That was a bold step and today, here we are, sixteen years after and counting.
It was a tough decision for me to leave my job and join my husband back in Lagos and we tried the long-distance thing for a while which was maddening for both of us.
At a point, I knew that I couldn’t take it much longer and decided to resign from my mouth-watering job.
I committed my steps into the hands of The Lord and joined my husband with my rounded belly in tow.
It took no time at all for me to gain a solid employment with British American Tobacco and the rest is history.
Sometimes, I do ponder on the thought: what if I had refused to get entangled with my husband and had stuck to the vision of working my way up as an aspiring diplomat?
I would have probably met some of those diplomatic career goals, who knows.
I will never know the answer to what my life might have turned out to be, but I can’t visualize a life without my family and I have no regrets to have taken this path.
All I know is that ‘all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord.’ Rom 8:28

Flowing your heart and committing to God was the way, and you did. I loved that part. Thanks for sharing, Jacqueline.

Glad to know that you are happy about your choice. Reminds me of the poem: ‘ two roads diverged in the woods..’ Life is full of such options and we have to pick our choice carefully. I’m Happy for you

WOW!! I can certainly relate to this. Myself leaving a mouth watering job, great perks, travel, benefits you name it. I sometimes look back on those days in the diplomatic corps and wonder what if! But life in a new country with my husband far outweighs the perks that came with working for the OAS!

Etta, I am glad that there’s something in here that shares some of these experiences. It wasn’t easy to do, but it needed to be done and I am glad I did.

It must have been so tough for you two when you tried doing the long distance relationship. I am glad that things worked out for you Jacqui in the end and you are still so happy after all those years together. 🙂

It was not funny whatsoever and I am glad too that it’s being working out, though marriage is not a walk in the park 😉 Sometimes I feel like running off with a band of gypsies for a while, but he won’t let me 😉

Beautiful Story Jacqueline! I am glad you took that decision. Fear sometimes holds us back from loving and living as we want. We often wonder what if it doesn’t work the way I expect? If we don’t take the risk, we wouldn’t know for sure. It’s even better when it’s a calculated risk in Jesus – We are sure He knows the way, and in the end, it will be for the best.
Cheers Sis.

What a terrific post and so relatable. Your love story is akin to mine..I was so career-oriented until my husband came along. You are right when you said that marriage isn’t a walk in the park but I can’t imagine my lofe without my family. I also agree that good things happen to those who love the Lord. You won’t believe it but I met my husband 3.5 years ago at the Holy LIght Ceremony in Jerusalem. He was in Cyprus at the time working at the University of Cyprus but he ditched it all for me and came to Greece. Unimaginable by the human brain but God has his ways

When God orchestrates these moves, everything falls into place even when we struggle against it. It’s a beautiful thing. Thank you Sofia 🙂

What a beautiful story! We all take risks – some work out and others don’t – glad yours did. 16 years and strong! Love it.

Hi Sis,
This made me smile, the Lord has the best laid plans for our lives.
I’ve learned that when one chooses the right life companion (like you did), the sacrifices that they make to be with this wonderful person, are so worthwhile. 🙂
God bless your family.

Lovely picture! We all can only wonder what it would be like if only.. but that’s just it. IF ONLY we had but we haven’t. And sometimes we make decisions that we look at in retrospect thinking, maybe I could be farther in life? But then we would have missed out on the experiences we have now. So with your path that we cannot unwind, rewalk or detour, we can only be glad for what we do have. 🙂 Beautiful story by the way. Much love Jackie!
