As a matter of fact, these thoughts are not one’s that I have dwelt on in an in-depth fashion at all.
Maybe, because retirement is still far from my mind, but with the way that time gallops by, it is worth sparing a thought.
If the truth be told, I have not focused on this particularly, because I live with hope that I shall live long into very old age to declare of the good works of the Lord in the land of the living.
Part of my aspirations, is for old age to find me in a position of an accomplished writer.
In a good stead where I will remain a motivating mentor and inspirational support for young adults and the older ones alike.
However, that said, I guess I will need to live somewhere while carrying out these good works and I have always gravitated towards things European/Frenchy because of my bilingualism.
I do admire the shininess of new cities such as Dubai where I currently inhabit a space, but I absolutely adore vintage European architecture.
I hope to find myself in a position where I can live as close to nature as possible in a nice cottage, chateau, house….
Where I can grow my own tomatoes, peppers and vegetable….
Where quaint cafés and bookstores will dot the landscape and I can natter with Louise or Jean-Pierre or Marie or Thérèse, or Edmond or Yves, or Cécilia, or Jason, or Tasha, or Meg, or Elise, Géneviève and all the friendly humans that life can find….while enjoying a freshly baked croissant, cappuccino, fresh breeze and without fear of snipers.
Maybe Nice – France? Maybe Montreal – Quebec? Maybe Geneva – Switzerland? Maybe Toronto – Canada? Maybe Houston – Texas? Maybe Paris – France?
Who knows? I can only hope, work hard, pray and have faith.

Where would you want to retire if money wasn’t an issue?

What a great picture and post. The little house looks so snug and well-loved, it warms my heart just to look at it. Thanks for such a toasty post during these cold, hard times.
Her’es my answer to your question: someplace warmer in the Winter than New England.

I grew up around the Ozarks area. I am not there anymore and miss the beauty of it dreadfully. The falls there were spectacular. It is a simple life there… but wonderful. If money were no issue, I’d retire in simplicity, in a small cottage off the lake. *shrugs* I don’t need a mansion of material things. I need a mansion in my heart and soul. Starshine to you and yours and much love.

You are a lady after my own heart. I love simplicity too. A mansion not of material things but one’s heart and soul. Ozarks sounds like a nice place to be. Much love to you too my fair lady 🙂

The picture reminded me of Tolkien and I guess just like Bilbo Baggins I am happiest in my own shire.

Sounds absolutely fab! My dream is to retire on our 80 acres or prairie in rural South Dakota, watching the sun set from my wooden porch and drifting off under a sky ablaze with stars..

I would say you are very motivating now. Come and live in North Devon, as long as you don’t mind the rain!

I do love living in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains but I would find life most sublime away from the bustle of the city in a cottage (with no stairs) on a bit of acreage nestled under a lush array of hardwood trees (with a few pine for ambiance) and swift moving water a mere stone’s throw away. The interior with shelves from floor to ceiling containing lovely books…the kitchen always steamy with soups and baked sweets and teas. And windows…unshaded where I would settle into the circadian rhythm of nature (no alarm clocks allowed!) I think I could retire there! ❤️

Try being my neighbor in Mustang, Oklahoma! None of your wants are here (except the gardening) but you’ll love us. I know because you love everyone (except selfies who snap pictures in restrooms.) We don’t have those here. They are in those other places you mentioned. Joking. You’ll be happy where God plants you hopefully near your family someplace, or rich enough to fly those miles. Must watch the grandchildren grow.

My dear lady, you would make one lovely neighbour to have. I really think that you are right. I will be happy where ever God plants me eventually, because it is more of the state of the mind than anything else.

When we lived in Spain I used to tell people that I would be retiring back to Ireland. Then the recession came along and I got to return sooner than expected. Although I haven’t retired as yet, I’m planning on doing so in the next couple of years and will be moving to a tiny house in a small town on a large river. We bought a little four berth boat and I hope to spend my retirement cruising at a snail’s pace up and down the inland waterways of Ireland writing, exploring and taking endless photographs, with a little wine and exercise thrown in for good measure. It may seem a very simple lifestyle but it’s what I’ve wanted for a long time. I hope you achieve your own satisfying retirement, it takes planning and effort but is so worth it.
