Some of us are positively wired morning humans, while some are later hours wired humans who want to kill the poor morning ones for too much positivity and energizer bunny bounciness at a time that they would consider as ungodly hours.
Please, I do crave your indulgence. I am one of those early morning sunny child and I married the moody moon man. What a chaotic sizzling hot combination. I digress.
Over the years, I found out that truly, whether morning or evening human, we are all creatures of habit and comfort. When I go away from my abode, I may stray a day or two away from my usual habits, but I will find that within the next few days, I am eager to get back to the known, comfortable cycle.
Most times, once we have set off on a certain tangent, its repetitive sessions almost becomes inculcated in our lives and gradually it sticks to us as a form of habit. That could be an explanation as to why some people who ooze negative vibes from start to finish find it difficult to break such a vicious cycle.
For instance, I wake up early (even my idea of a lie-in on a Saturday morning is pretentious, compared to some people that I know) and jump start my day with certain activities.
I practically wake up with ”Thank you Lord” on my lips each morning before dashing to the loo, getting some business taken care of and going through my to-do list in my head.
I have found that making those positive affirmations, spending that 5 minutes early in the morning to go through my Bible or devotional (sometimes, on the go) helps keep my mind steady and with that positive strength of my mind, I run my day more productively.
On the other hand, on days I wake up from the wrong side of my bed, with a cotton wool head and grumpiness, the day simply goes South, except I climb back into bed and try to crawl out from the right side, second time around; which by the way is luxury that I cannot afford.
That day practically runs me (which is not my ideal picture) and I end up faffing away most of my time gathering more wool and not achieving as much as I would have ordinarily.
So, in essence, I make great efforts to do the positives again and again until it is almost on auto.
I haven’t perfected the art yet, but the journey to achieve excellence is actually the greater part of the success.
So tell me, which side of the day are you? Morning or later hours?

What is the first thing you do every single day (I mean, after you hit the snooze button)? When did that step in your routine begin?

We have the morning sunny child and the moody moon man in common yet again Sweet Sis, *wink* and a 🙂 foryou.

Morning, definitely morning! It’s not that I necessarily want to get up early every day, my body forces me. 99% of the time I wake up before the alarm clock, that goes off at 5 am work days. Today I woke up at 4 am, but forced myself to stay in bed another 30 min. I get restless, my head is never as full of ideas as in the morning, my creative juices are flowing. Mornings have always been “my time”. When I lived in Sweden I had a lovely Icelandic Horse, and an indoor riding arena outside my house. I used to get up at 5, and ride before work every day. It made the whole day joyful, and I always got that important “me time”, no matter how stressful the rest of the day was. Nowadays I start my day with going over my intentions for the day, and my more long term goals, while having a cup of green tea. I love the mornings! It can be a little tricky while visiting friends for holidays etc. I can be very quiet, but it’s awful when you accidentally wake people up.
Enjoy the rest of your day!

This is totally awesome. A lot of your photos show the glorious mornings that you catch with the lens. I love mornings too and I am far more productive at that time too. I enjoy the quietness of thinking while others still sleep. Thank you Maria 🙂

I’m a night owl married to a morning man. It’s quite the combination! I think I understand him more than he understands me because I WISH I were a morning person. I can be dragging all day, tired and just waiting for the chance to go to bed early, but when four o’clock rolls around I actually become energized, thwarting all of my plans for a good night’s sleep. I do agree that waking up with an attitude of gratitude sets the tone for the day. Just reading yours made me happy.

Got this idea many years ago from Julia Cameron’s “The Artists Way.” She recommended three pages of longhand and walking. I add mediation . It has been a much loved and appreciated combination for me for many years now. Course, it involves getting up earlier than most, but I have always thought I was meant to be a dairy farmer as I get up well before sunrise.

I’ve always longed to be a morning human. It appears to me that those morning beings lead happier more successful lives. Happier equalling success and success equalling happier. I am nanny to two wonderful girls 6 and 9. The 9 year old is definitely not a morning person. Always grouchy for the first couple hours of the day. Whereas the 6 year old you tell her it’s time to wake up she sits up, throws her hair back and starts talking a mile a minute about whatever. The 6 year old is confident, outgoing and eager the 9 year old is insecure, shy and questioning.
Of course who they are does not necessarily mean my theory is valid. It’s just an example that I see everyday and caught myself thinking just last week, this little one will be the more successful of the two. It will be interesting to see where life takes them.

Hmm! Splendid comment. I now begin to wonder if there is a trigger somewhere that determines how we become morning or later hour people. What I feel though is that the earlier risers seem to get more done in the same 24 hours that we all get. With the scenario of the two kids that you have painted above, I am going to use mine as a case study to review a few things. Thank you very much for these comments and for sowing seeds of good thoughts in my head.

I definitely agree morning people get more done. (That’s part of the success scenario) They’re just more successful at being human beings. LOL.
The other thing that I kept wanting to write but was hesitating on (mostly because I am writing to a blogger and my comments will be read by bloggers) is that I have found in my personal life patterns a correlation between the “creative/artist types” being “night owls” vs those “others” who tend to be more even-mannered day people.
So, taking it a step forward is there any relevancy to the theory that right-brained people have a higher tendancy of being night owls? And vice versa?

I’m both a morning person and a night owl. I don’t bounce out of bed at first light, but I’m up around nine in the morning without grumpiness and stay up until well into the wee hours (between midnight-thirty and 2am depending on how distracted I am). The hubs is definitely a night owl. Given his druthers, he would wake up well after noon and not go to sleep until after 3am.

That’s great. Sometimes, when the need arises, I stay up late dealing with whatever that is, but it is not often besides with young children of school age I don’t even have a choice in the matter of time to wake up 😊 Thanks for letting us know a little more about your habits. Regards

Morning, quiet house, cup of tea, and positive motivation affirmations… that will set the tone to the rest of my day. I don’t allow stress in the morning as that gets us off to a bad start. If we need to, we wake up earlier or prepare the night before, but stress and being hurried first thing is a no-no. (we = my family and household) 😀

Same here. It helps keep everyone sane. It stresses me out having to run around like a headless chicken looking for a pair of socks or one odd thing. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts 😊

Great post. I am not a morning person. I get up early because I get hungry and have to eat, then go back to bed for a couple hours. I hate waking up early. The first thing I do is eat, then check my emails.

Jackie, I love that you read the Bible as your morning routine. I shouldn’t be lazy when it comes to our Lord but truth be told I am. It’s something that I need to change. After giving birth to my daughter Alyssa, my sleeping schedule reversed from waking up at 3:50 am to waking up at 1:30pm and sleeping at 3 am central time.
I planned to fix this but just today my husband started his new graveyard shift and I figured I should just keep my days like this so that I can have breakfast with my husband at 2pm lol. Weird but it might just work.

With a tiny tot, our lives do a 360 turn so I can imagine yours with your daughter Alyssa. Some mornings when I cannot delve into the Bible, I use my devotional for that day.
Your life will be full of different swings until baby gets older and you find your footing. Please don’t forget to enjoy these moments. They are beautiful and enriching. Have a blessed day 🙂

Right now she is still small. She still sleeps about 18 hours so its okay but once she starts sleeping less I will have to adjust my schedule lol. I try not to confuse her when its night like right now its 12:00am I have the lights off and I have headphones on and my tablet facing away from her. During the morning I turn the lights on even if she is asleep and turn on the tv so she can know that its day time. When she is asleep and Alex and I are wide awake at night we sometimes go to the kitchen to eat or watch our shows lol We are owls!;p
Thank you for your kind words(: Have a blessed day as well
