Sweet Exchange…

I saw him hand over his three coins, the ice-cone well worth the exchange. I can almost swear I heard his hum of pleasure float up to my ears 🙂

My Boy Lollipop…

Lollipop, sweet, my boy lollipop, Millie Smalls, Memories, Reminisce

On my stroll, I saw this leftover or should I say the accidentally leftover lollipop, its bright sticky sweetness attracting little black ants that I could see drawing closer.

It’s just a mere stick of lollipop but it brought this old tune to my mind, ‘my boy lollipop, by Millie Smalls,’ and I hummed and reminisced as I enjoyed my stroll.

I grew up listening to my dad play this song on his old Grundig. I couldn’t have been more than 5 years old if memory serves me well and I didn’t know what the lyrics meant, but that tune was partly responsible for my kindness to lollipops 😉

I can imagine the disappointment of the young one whose lollipop popped out of their mouth but he or she doesn’t know that their loss offered me a brief dip into beautiful old memories and I daresay the ants were glad too.

Sometimes unexpected things trigger off memories stored in the recesses of our minds; sweet, bittersweet, poignant, dark, sharp memories of childhood and I’ve learnt to embrace all these memories both the beautiful and the ugly ones. They weave together to make me the tapestry of the soul that I am today.

Here’s a little offer of ‘my boy lollipop.’

Date Juice – Easy, Peasy Recipe

Dates are not only delicious, they are filled with healthy surprises. Abundant in the UAE, Egypt and parts of the Persian Gulf Region/Middle East, this highly nutritious, cholesterol-free fruit has so many varieties that are endowed with nature’s bounty of providing you with various health benefits, though it’s downside maybe it’s richness in sugar for diabetic patients.

The fructose that it contains is far better than the refined sugar that we consume these days and I am exploring using date syrup as my go to sweetener instead of sugar.

A quick look at the health benefits:

Contains vitamins like B1, B2, B3, B5, A1 and C

  1. Boosts heart health.
  2. Anti-Inflammatory properties
  3. Reduced Blood Pressure
  4. Promotes Digestive Health, Relieving Constipation
  5. Boosts Brain Health
  6. Bone Health and Strength
  7. Dietary supplement for anaemic people – increases energy
  8. Increases sexual stamina – when soaked overnight in goat milk and consumed the next morning.
  9. Helps reduction of night blindness
  10. A quick remedy for alcoholic intoxication.
  11. Great for hair and skin.

How to make date juice:

Contents: Water, Dates, Vanilla essence or lemon juice, (Almonds and ground Cardamon are optional).

Note that the quantity of dates that you use depends on how many people you are serving, but for 2 refreshing glasses, a handful of dates will suffice.

  1. Remove the seeds and soak a handful of dates in warm water for 3o mins to 1 hour to soften.
  2. Once the dates have soaked, drain the water then add the dates, One and a half cup of water, lemon juice or vanilla into the container of a high-speed blender and blend for 60 seconds or until smooth.
  3. If desired, you can add ground cardamom or almonds into the mix and blend.
  4. Serve slightly chilled.
  5. Enjoy and satisfy your sweet tooth 😉

Rare Findings…

The more rare an item is, the more expensive it becomes in some cases like the pot of honey below. Even the savant Pooh Bear will attest to the finest taste of this honey. There’s definitely something about it.

Sidr Honey

Sidr honey from Yemen is the rarest and most expensive honey in the world. Sidr honey is sought after because of it’s exquisite taste, it’s health benefits as a natural medicine, and it’s even known as a powerful aphrodisiac. The demand for real Sidr honey from Yemen is so high that it is known to sell for up to 1000$ per Kilogram and if one is not careful to purchase from the right sources, they can be sold the fake product.

Rare Coins

Money has evolved in value over centuries but coins still retain their basic round shape. I wonder what the real cost of these coins found at an archaeological site in Baghdad will be.

A year ago, I saw this grand lady sitting in a corner of a hotel ballroom, whilst music floated through the speakers of the modern CD player. I closed my eyes and imagined the fine & country classics that breezed through the gramophone and the nicely dressed gentry to twirled and twisted to the jives 🙂

Blooming – Ronovan writes weekly haiku challenge.

I like Ronovan’s cheerful prompt ‘Sing & Flower,’ for this week. We really need as much cheer as possible.

The flowers bloom

and their petals sing

in the Sun.

Among Lily flowers

he sings his love

in high-pitched notes

Jacqueline writes from her heart on passion, pain, suffering, loss and LIFE. I have been incredibly moved by her poetry and I know I will return to “Out of the Silent Breath” again and again.

If you enjoy my works and would like to do so, you can fuel my creativity with a slice of cake or coffee😉

After reading my dear Van’s ice-cream truck post yesterday, I was inspired to post this photo.

It was taken last weekend. A mango sorbet purchased from an ice-cream truck at the park. Yummy  😉

Out of the silent breath

Never leave me lonely

With words left unsaid

You walk away into the dark

Like a mist, that melts away.

Sweet Indulgence…

Honey sweet words you whispered to me,

In anticipation, they tickle me to my bones.

Pupils dilated, eyelashes flutter,

In deep sigh of sated, sweet affection,

The burst of sugary sensation,

Hits the right nerve centres.

It’s a chocolate dream.
