I spied these feline’s hiding out under the shrubs, watching the humans as they walk past.

The Garden Gnome and The Bonsai – A Click A Day

picsart_09-27-02-35-081

Psst! Psst! I thought my ears were hearing things.

I paused and saw the little guy.

His eyes twinkled in merriment and mischief.

In the soft garden breeze, I heard him whisper,

come and sit with me and I’ll show you some magic.

I’ll tell you incredible fairy tales,

right here under my Bonsai tree.

Of course, I had to stop and listen 🙂

The Fallen Leaf – Mundane Monday

Mundane Monday Challenge is created to find beauty in almost everything.

The challenge is simple. Find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.

When I sat on the park bench,

she floated to the ground

right before my feet.

I felt like stepping on her,

to feel the crinkle of the dry fallen leaf

under my bare toes.

Seeing her difference,

I paused and took note;

my mind saying, let her be.

Don’t squash her into the ground,

allow her to live her dreams ,

even if they be for another day or two.

For all, I may know,

she’s been dying to lie down,

tired of hanging on limbs

that made her sway up and down.

Just let her be;

said my mind.

Let her have her peace.

I wrote this as I watched the leaves, my mind dwelling on many little things.

The Mask – A Click A Day.

picsart_09-21-05-54-081

Little things can trigger great memories of the past. I stumbled on this mask in a shop at the souk that collected all manner of knicks and knacks from all over the World. On enquiry, the seller told me he believes it’s from somewhere in West Africa.

Looking at it transported me back home to my native Igbo land of Enugu State in Nigeria. It brought back a flooding of memories of cultural festivities that showcased fierce masquerades and the drumbeats of the African drums and special gong, especially at Christmas or New Year season.

It reminded me of my days as a young girl and how we used to run as swiftly as we could to get away from the young agile masquerades who loved to send our adrenaline pumping by chasing us around the square or through the bush path – especially the young girls.

Traditionally where I’m from, women don’t come near masquerades and stood to watch from the peripheries. It’s only the domain of men who have attained a certain level in their age-grade. To be initiated in the masquerade group required a ceremony of its own which is only attended by men and held at a secret place.

To my understanding, some of these traditions have been eroded by Western culture, but there are still some villages that hold on to their cultural heritage.

P.S. Some clips I found on YouTube about some Igbo festivals.

Homemade Juices and Smoothies – A Click A Day.

picsart_09-16-08-34-501

One of the decisions I made earlier this year is to reduce as much as possible, my families consumption of fizzy pops, KoolAids, Caprisun, Tang and all such drinks and to replace them with fresh, healthier options.

Initially, it was not an easy sell to the children and Dear Himself.  I heard a lot of moans and groans to start with, but it caught on right  after the first trial run. Now, we bulk purchase a variety of fruits, juice them, mix them, make smoothies out of different blends and bottle to freeze.

The children participate in doing this, from washing the fruits, to peeling, to juicing with the electric juicer….

The process is fun since they get to eat the sweet pulp from the fruits and to label their hard work. Each school morning, a bottle of frozen homemade juice is tossed into their lunch box (it retains its freshness from freezing and would have melted by break time) and they bring back the bottles, rinse it out with warm water and reuse.

The interesting thing is that when we eat out these days, the kids compare the drinks they get outside to the one that we make at home and their verdict is that our’s is better 😉

How do you get your children to assist in the house? I love to learn from others.

The Lady of Vase – A Click A Day.

picsart_09-13-11-08-111

My Dear Vase Lady,

with eyes shuttered down,

subdued and silent you are;

what goes on in your mind?

I saw the beautiful, interesting vase standing alone in a quiet corner of the mall as I nosed around. I noticed a chipped bit around her neck, but the questioning poem came to my mind. I wondered who the sculptor had in mind when he/she was creating this.

Have you been clicking your camera recently? Any interesting finds? Enjoy your day.
