Am I kind enough?…Kindness challenge

You would think that writing or talking about kindness is a quick sticky note wouldn’t you?RevofKindness

Now as I set to quickly skip through this post of combined prompts – self-kindness, kind energy and be kind – for Niki’s Kindness challenge due to the fact that I didn’t start out when others did, I find myself drawing away from my preconceived idea and trailing down memory lane.

Meandering down old routes raises the question, ‘is it enough that I am considerate of others?’ What is enough kindness? Is there a parameter to know what’s enough?

I don’t think so. I believe that kindness should be an inculcated way of life. Through my childhood, I was predisposed to observe first hand the kindness that my parents endlessly practiced in their lives. They raised many other children other than their own, that it was simply a way of life for them to take on educating, feeding, clothing and helping the less privileged, to an extent that sometimes I wondered how they managed on their income.

Yet, they never lacked, their progress was never stunted, their cooking pot remained large and their door open. I believe that all they did and still do built the right kind of energy, that sometimes I feel guilty that I’m not doing enough.

Taking part in this challenge has actually attuned my mind to be a bit more observant of my actions, what energy I am sending out there in my family and those who come in constant contact with me. The past weeks were hectic with work, school exams, life etc and I noticed that I was a bit stressed and snappy with the children so, I had to soft-pedal in my thoughts and snippiness. I knew that what I needed was a little time to myself to de-stress. I indulged myself in a bit of self-kindness, which is something that I struggle with most times.

I find that it’s easier for me to take care of every other person’s need, to cut some slack for everyone else, while I keep pushing my own needs to the bottom of the ladder. However, last weekend, I indulged in a bit of pampering steam/sauna session to decongest my thoughts and release tense muscles, as well as a pedicure with a foot massage. I almost fell out of the armchair as I dosed off to the goodness of it all and felt so much better which automatically improved my mood.

Controversy…Just so you know.

Yesterday, I published a post on Ramadan Kareem and to my surprise, I received a couple of comments asking me why I should be celebrating Islam?

In the past 1450 years since Muhammad, over 180,000 people have been killed in the name of Islam per year. Thats 250 million people killed to advance Islam. How can you celebrate Islam?

Sometimes, I am totally befuddled by the whole religious brouhaha. I can’t lay claims to being the best Christian out there and as a matter of fact, I don’t believe in practising religion for those who wish to know.

This is my response to this comment below:

I’m doubtful if there’s any teaching of Christ that requires me as a Christian to segregate myself from others due to their religious beliefs. I’m no better than any other misguided person out there and I think the biggest problem that the World has is that the sons of men have turned the word of God into a weapon for judgement and battery of each other. I don’t celebrate Islam because I am not Muslim, I however, recognise the fact that I live in the Middle East where most of my neighbours are Muslims and they are decent folks whom I respect, irrespective of their choice of belief. I am not interested in practising religion but my question to myself would always be ‘what would Jesus do?’ We preach love.

I believe in practising what the teachings of Jesus Christ tells me in my Bible and his greatest teaching is LOVE and to be at peace with all men. God is Almighty in Himself and he doesn’t need me to wage wars for him. He is All-sufficient. My part of the deal is to tarry with him, to walk in his ways, to be a vessel of honour and to lead others to Christ through gentle ministration.

Sometimes, I think that we lose sight of the important things while dwelling on things that leave questions to be asked.

I’m sorry that I have to throw light on this issue, but sometimes, we just have to speak.

My sincere thoughts.

Jacqueline.

Wishing our Muslim friends a peaceful and reflective time as they begin their Ramadan fast.

May it be a period of reconciliation, understanding, growth, peace, forgiveness, and harmony.

Midnight Motivation and Musings #92

Denial[1]

What do you suppose would happen if each person were to treat those around him/her with fairness, honesty, kindness, consideration, compassion, self-control, tolerance, benevolence, respect, politeness, dignity, admiration, friendliness, love, and does it with integrity?

A far more pleasant life, that’s what would happen.

The truth is that each of us wields certain influence on those around us, either positively or negatively and the pebbles we drop in society’s pool around us creates wide ripples, so it’s worth thinking it through.

Our actions are our responsibility and most times the output from our relationships or other aspects of our life is derived from our conscious input.

One can visibly lift themselves up to a new or higher plane of human relations by their conscious positive behaviour towards others and they actually get to derive a happier state of life.

Naturally, in every given society, there will always be the badly behaved person, but that shouldn’t be anyone’s focus. Our focus should be on our own behaviour. On extending the courtesy that we expect from others.
