It’s amazing how glaring
the truth can be, yet,
some would choose a lie
because they are afraid
of the discomfort
looking truth in the face
would cause.

She fears her life
is a nightmarish carousel
taking her on a whirlwind journey
but getting nowhere in a hurry.

To most who look,
stars shimmer all the time
with finesse and success,
but beneath the glamour
lie lonely hearts
struggling to know themselves.

Sometimes,
when I stretch my mind’s eye
to see my future
it looks foggy and far-fetched
into tomorrow,
but I hold on to the compass
of my dreams.

I wrote this poem for my work-in-progress third poetry book, then I saw the Daily post prompt ‘foggy’ and I couldn’t resist pulling it out and sharing it here.
Before I dabbled into photography, I never knew that I would find such delight standing behind the lens instead of in front of them. It almost feels like a meditative prayer capturing images. It simply feeds my eye’s and my soul. Jacqueline
Life is teaching me that I don’t need expensive treats to find deep satisfaction. Satisfaction comes from the cheap little thrills of life like a beautiful day, the happy laughter of a child, a pretty flower, a meaningful conversation, a well-deserved cup of brew, a good read etc.
There were times that it was hard to feel satisfaction. Times when raw pain made me wonder if the bleakness would ever lift off, but through writing, I find unquantifiable satisfaction.
It, therefore, goes as no surprise to say that seeing my books in print gives me pure pleasure.

As the days go by
and I unearth old hidden secrets
I discover good qualities right beside them
the fear most have is that when we let
those hidden things out of the box
others will judge us harshly
thus, we carry these heavy things
not knowing when to let go
and to set ourselves free
the thing is this,
even if you never have secrets to hide
people will still find reasons to judge you
and their opinion shouldn’t be your business
so, be your authentic self
live your life without hiding from yourself

When he made her acquaintance,
her fragrance titillated his senses,
he sought to have a dalliance
with her, she glowed with such radiance
and almost felt like an impatient pagan
for his increased hearts’ cadence

His life has become a disaster waiting to happen,
yet he just couldn’t stop himself,
he was not in a good place.

He hated the choices that he had made
getting hooked was far easier than getting off
the results have only been disastrous.

On my stroll, I saw this leftover or should I say the accidentally leftover lollipop, its bright sticky sweetness attracting little black ants that I could see drawing closer.
It’s just a mere stick of lollipop but it brought this old tune to my mind, ‘my boy lollipop, by Millie Smalls,’ and I hummed and reminisced as I enjoyed my stroll.
I grew up listening to my dad play this song on his old Grundig. I couldn’t have been more than 5 years old if memory serves me well and I didn’t know what the lyrics meant, but that tune was partly responsible for my kindness to lollipops 😉
I can imagine the disappointment of the young one whose lollipop popped out of their mouth but he or she doesn’t know that their loss offered me a brief dip into beautiful old memories and I daresay the ants were glad too.
Sometimes unexpected things trigger off memories stored in the recesses of our minds; sweet, bittersweet, poignant, dark, sharp memories of childhood and I’ve learnt to embrace all these memories both the beautiful and the ugly ones. They weave together to make me the tapestry of the soul that I am today.
Here’s a little offer of ‘my boy lollipop.’
The light had turned green but I couldn’t move. Not because my car had broken down, but because three birds chose to have a street fight right in front of my car.
At first, I couldn’t figure out what was going on with all the squawking and strutting back and forth. I thought one of them was dead – the one that was lying down and being stomped on – and that they were trying to lift it up and take it home with them.
I watched for a couple of minutes, tapped my horn but they didn’t respond. The light went back to red and the cars behind me were upset that I was causing a delay. All the cars zipping past and the horn didn’t perturb these angry birds. I took several shots with my phone camera and decided to get down and lift the supposedly dead bird to the side walk.
To my surprise, when I got close enough they all took off and continued their squabble on the side walk. Now in retrospect, I wish I had taken a video of the unusual scene.
