  1. Greetings Jacqueline!! I enjoy going back over your videos and posts to gain more wisdom. I was also listening to a guy who is basically a relationship coach and he made some great points.

People who have Dreams but no goals or game plans.

People who argue for their limitations. I’ve been guilty of that & it’s a bad habit that has to go. Many times I operate in crisis mode meaning something terrible happens then I address the situation. Horrible I know.

    People with no Follow-Through.

For example I’m planning for retirement. I’m nearly 60 so my full-time working life is coming to an end. Plus given my health situation I don’t think I’ll be continuing with my current job until 2020.

Now I’m fortunate in the sense that I have a Union job which will provide me with a pension once I put in my papers for retirement which could be next year depending on a number of factors. I was smart enough to join the Fidelity 403B private savings plan which my company matches up to 10%. That was in 2015. I should have started saving sooner but I guess better late than never. Ideally I should stay on my job until 2020 to get the maximum money but I really want to retire Summer/Fall 2018 and do something else with my life. Of course I have to balance out that plan with the fact that New York City is extremely expensive to live in. So many considerations sometimes I don’t know which way to turn.

I make jokes about being a Lady of Leisure and Wasting Away in Margaritaville (A song by Jimmy Buffet), but one can only be lazy for so long! I suppose being able to relax, rest, sleep, spend more time with my brother Stephen plus come and go as I please is looking better every day because I’ve been working pretty much non-stop since I was 17! That’s over 40 years. So once I do check out of the rat race I will be taking some much deserved rest for at least eight 8 months. Then next steps.

Different phases of life have different requirements and directions. Where I stood when I was in my 20s & 30s is so different from back when I was in my 40s. Now I’m about to hit that sixth decade. So much changes as time literally seems to fly by.

Sorry for such a long post.

    • No need to apologize for your long post DeBorah. I enjoyed reading this and honestly can’t imagine all the nuts that you are trying to balance at this point in time. It’s great you’ve got some retirement plan, that will certainly make life easier while you work out the next turns in your life. It makes loads of sense to hang in there as long as you can and I honestly have a good feeling about your retirement. I feel that it will give you time to discover more about yourself and new opportunities that will bring you contentment.

  2. I can say that I do have some regrets in that I did not better prepare myself for getting older. Can’t say I’m totally at fault because my health problems are genetic and you can’t escape your DNA. Now I’m going through some Letters from the VA (U.S. Dept of Veterans Affairs) because parts of me are damaged. Instead of doing fun things or stuff I want to do I spend a good portion my free time either going to some type of doctor or trying to line up medical appointments.

As the expression goes, “Old Soldiers Never die. They Just fade away.”

My advice to younger people teens, 20s, 30s & 40s is do everything you want to do or desire while you are young and healthy enough to accomplish your goals because you never know what is going to happen to you after 50.
