Harsh reality destroys innocence. Jacqueline

Chastity breached;

innocence is stolen;

when no eyes were looking.

Bewildered child-hood;

bore pain of betrayal;

with the mask of innocence.

Beneath multi-layers;

lies an embittered spirit;

deprived of girlhood innocence. 

It’s never a comfortable topic to write about the abuse of the girl-child and even grown women and an issue most would like to wish away and hide under the veil of humour. Yet, the statistics and spate of abuse and violation of females are horrendous.

A lot of times, violation comes from close quarters. These incidents leave a not so strong female broken, disillusioned, embittered and bearing the burden of guilt and shame. Her silence costs her everything and it takes a lot of grace for a victim to overcome the burden of violation.

Society has not helped by casting silent and even vocal blame on victims, thereby making their burden a lot heavier and their silence more ominous.

Gratitude

The little things…

Sliced orange

Today, I am grateful for the little, simple things of life. For the gift of a new day, waking up, working out briskly, enjoying a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and my own tasty homemade minestrone soup. Yummy 😊

I am especially grateful for passing an academic assessment that had kept my studious nose on a grindstone like a high scholar.

I appreciate the little moments of life’s serenity to exhale and to be my best. The bits of opportunities life brings me each day must never be taken for granted; to live, to laugh, to love, to cry, to hope and to believe.

Each day I strive not to toss the day aside like an unwanted penny left by the sidewalk, knowing fully well that the addition of each penny increases the value of your total holding.

There’s always something to be grateful for.

The Ranch..

Captain Blacky sniffed around the two cars in a peculiar manner; his heightened sense of smell on the alert to pick up any unfriendly aura of its passengers.

“Were these ones’ pleasant folks or would they be like that old mealy-mouthed last prospective buyer who spoke in such an annoying manner so much so that he had wanted to plant a hoof in his backside?”

He hated to see people try to cheat his owners and he felt truly sorry to see his loving owners put up their ranch for sale due to financial hardship. They had struggled for so long to keep things together, but things were just rough and he had heard his master say that the banks’ terms would simply dig them into more hardship.

He really hoped that the new buyers will be good humans, otherwise he would simply incite his fellow animals  on the ranch to riot.
