Human Bots In The Midst Of The Dirty Spam Bots!

1458703462081[1]

I have a full spam box and decided to slowly weed through and sift with a fine tooth comb, because I have actually unknowingly weeded out a lot of good comments with the load of rubbish before, so I was being careful this time, though it was quite lengthy.

Amidst the offer for watermelon flavoured Viagra, several trolls, crazy offers and all manners of Chinese writing that I couldn’t make out what on earth it was saying, I saw YOU, YOU, YOU AND YOU

I wonderΒ what is going on and why I have lots of decent humans mingled with trashy bots πŸ˜πŸ˜•?

Apologies if you sent comments and didn’t hear from me.

I am in the process of disentangling you from the weedy trash πŸ˜‰

I was of the good mind to chew WordPress’s ears, but changed it quickly because I don’t want them to let some mad dogs out of the spam cage and into my arena.

P. S. Did I ever tell you about my green, Johnny just come, new-beginner days when I was responding to comments from bots? Ah!! I guess that’s a story for another day πŸ™‚

My regards,

Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

  1. I’ll never understand spam-bots: thet are annoying as hell and I don’t see how they can accomplish anything? It’s usually just a wall of random words and a suspicious link anyway, so not particularly convincing.

And the ones that look like fake comments (I’ve been tempted to reply at first, too!) that don’t have a link or anything, it’s just unrelated comments, what are those for?

Anyway, I am glad you were able to recover comments made by actual users! I just empty the spam folder without looking, but your post makes me think this might not be a good idea.

  2. Hushmail, an e-mail provider from Canada, seems to control my spam very well. We the customers must insist upon internet integrity and making the choices on the web, rather than allowing these companies to scare us with their power into allowing them to make choices for us, such as when it is time to set aside work and go shopping. Canada has not yet gone to prostituting her people, and we will apologize to the world for what the American companies have been allowed to do to the foundation principles of the world wide web. The U. S. Congress must fix this, but they seem all to like the prostitution better.

      1. I still can’t get over the fact that bots leave messages. That flies in the face of everything I know about bots. I work in IT at my day job and we’re working hard to curb click fraud from bots. We’ve never received comments from them.

  3. I’ve been wanting to ask you for the longest….how do you not have spam in your comments? Since the comments on your blog are automatically posted and don’t have to be approved first, I couldn’t wrap my head around how your site stays spam free and I still can’t!!! What’s your secret?
