Being a mother is not a duty that comes with a how-to manual; you simply take on the responsibility with Grace and Hope.
Some days are a fly by the seat of your pants days, where so many things get thrown at you at such speed that you either catch, dodge or get hit.
Yesterday was one of those days. I will not inundate you with all the nitty-gritty, but when you have children, you are always simply in the ”Be prepared mode”, more so with two rough and tumble boys.
One left for school hale and hearty and came back wheeled in with a sprained ankle from a rough game of football. He had scored a goal and the others piled on top of him!
Another came down with a bout of fever and coughing up a storm.
My dear daughter on her own part, appeared puffy faced and teary eyed; her brand new tablet had just been smashed by a careless best friend.
All these within hours of each other and on top of other beckoning, ever- present responsibilities.
”What do you do?” ”Pull your hair out and get crazy or keep calm and handle the tasks at hand?”
Scene 1. With lots of cold compress, gentle massage and pain relief, we got the ankle to feel fine and he is walking by himself this morning, so we are smiling.
Scene 2. Brewed lots of warm soup, made mugs of fresh squeezed lemon with a dash of boiled ginger and teaspoons of honey, 10mils of Ibuprofen and palliatives; we are still coughing, but fever is down.
Scene 3. A quick retrieval of warranty for the tablet and mummy has to go and see if something can be done about it.
So there it is. All in a days job.
Today, I am thankful for God’s protection and grace over my family.
I am grateful for serenity in chaotic moments.
There is always something to be thankful for. What is your heart grateful for today?

You have described a life of a mother. Sometimes it seems never-ending but is worth it when you receive the hugs and kisses given with love.

I am not a mother, but I can imagine wanting to pull my hair out if I was in this situation. You handled it like a mom-congratulations. Hope the cough has subsided by now too.

Thanks Deb. Its much better. By the time you add mum status to your list of aliases, the grace to see you through will appear 🙂

This is why I hate seeing helpless women in books. Women, especially mothers, are experts at handling rapid fire crises. Good job mama!

Thank you Sarah. I equally think it is a wrong notion for women to be cast in wimpy, helpless characters – though I have seen some very annoying ladies acting that way in real life and it just beats me.

Wow! It sounds like you have had an exciting day already! Life does have a way of getting overwhelming and hectic, doesn’t it? It’s days like these that panic wants to set in, but, you have to give it all to God. Otherwise, you may go insane.
What kind of soup did you make? How is your daughter’s cough by now? I hope it goes away soon.
You handled this situation like a pro. 🙂

Hello Cindy, good to see you. It has been hectic but something that I have come to realize that my spiritual walk has stood in good stead in times of chaos and trouble. Like you just said, I offer it up to God and get on with what I can handle.
I made chicken noodle soup but with bits of veggie thrown in, carrots, chilli pepper, mint and parsley – which they always like. The cough is subsiding; not as alarming as it was earlier. Thank you so much for your concern. I appreciate your time and words 🙂

You’re most welcome, Jacqueline. My husband made some chicken, veggie, rice soup the other day – from scratch. It was so good! 🙂 He added carrots too. Lol
I am glad the cough is better.

What a day you all had! Glad the boys are doing better and the tablet can be replaced. You had your hands full and you juggled just fine.

Oh, Jacqueline I’m there now with only one and she’s enough for four children put together. 😄 It’s a hard job, but given to us. (Sighs) One can only hope it gets better since I’m not sure if I’m cut out for it. But, you got it down to the science. 👍🏽

Pamela, I think God simply supplies the grace that we need as we go on. By the power of our own hands, we would fail woefully!

The hecticness of having kids. I don’t have kids but when I do, I’ll have an idea of how to handle it. Raising kids, even if they’re not your own, can let you into the world of parenting. Thanks for sharing!
