Deadly Silence and Inner Demons – Writer’s Quote Prompt

Quote, Writing

Last week Oneta’s Writer’s quote and her beautiful story made me remember an old song that my mother sang a lot back in the days:

Why worry when you can pray
trust in Jesus and he will guide your way
don’t be a doubting Thomas
just place your trust in Jesus
why worry, worry, worry?

It’s such a simple song but anytime I am inundated with worry and struggling to have my way with certain things, it pops into my head prompting me to offer it up to God and I have learned that prayer is indeed the master key.

For this week’s prompt:

‘my writing is a struggle against inner demons. I use my words to paint my  thoughts and win the battle in the recesses of my mind.’ Jacqueline

“WHO AM I?”

A life spent being fearful of showing your soul is a life not worth living.”
― Shannon L. Alder

A few days ago athling at A Writer’s Life presented the quote above by ― Shannon L. Alder.   I asked her at that time if she would mind if I pass it on in this Writer’s Quote Challenge.  —–

How much of your soul do you reveal in posts for your blogs?  I think many bloggers blog because it give opportunity to vent about themselves in a way that is at least semi-anonymous.

There seems to be so many people who are trying to “discover” themselves.  From my vantage point in age, I say, “Relax, you will not will not be your full self until the day you die.”  Every day adds a new layer to the person you are.  Even if it is the most boring horrible day of…

Don’t Get it Twisted!

When I saw the haiku prompt ‘twist & shout’ I first thought of dancing, then another seed of thought planted itself in my mind and I went with it.

Misunderstanding, Half-truth

There’s no need to shout,

or getting your panties in a twist.

You got it all wrong!

An Ear of Corn…Writer’s Quote Challenge

“For the full ear of corn is the child of a mere kernel planted and watered with hope, even when the crows were watching.”  Jacqueline

Except we plant the seeds,

our baskets shall have no feed,

our homes will be empty of bread,

and our stomachs hungry in bed.

§

We have no idea how far a little idea that we have will go and except we are willing to sow our ideas despite possible obstacles, we’ll have no rewards to reap.

This is my contribution to Bernadette’s  quote for last Writers quote challenge prompt:

How many times do we catch ourselves making plans for months to come when we’ve not finished living in the day that we are given?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that we shouldn’t plan for the future, but my question is, how much of the present are you living or are you simply existing and planning for a future that would most likely not occur as you planned?

It’s how we live our today that determines our tomorrow.

The Bitter Truth…Writer’s Quote Challenge

invitation-shel-silverstein

“Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.” Seneca

I’ve written and deleted my post many times, not because I’m at loss for words but because the spurious well of churning words seeking to escape my thoughts are so disjointed that I don’t even know how to bridle them.

I will borrow the quote Bernadette gave for the writer’s quote inaugural week to try and cobble my words together. How apt this quote is for this tumultous week of new beginning. Is this the beginning to the end of things? Only time will tell.

You feign that you care about others

while in the secrecy of your dark soul

you wish to take away the rights of other living souls

You feign that you are a free world

while in the darkness of your fields

lie the spirits of broken men

You ache to regain toe hold

over your reign of terror on people’s lives

when you could whip them into submission to your will

You ache that things should be

the way they were before

when others had to cower before you in fear

You remember your days of old glory

your days of supremacy

and you want to reconstitute your free lynching

The truth is that

you will never gain back that

which your hateful soul desperately seeks

The truth is that

times have moved on and so will it remain

‘cos no one is going to cower in fear of your bullying and cowardice

The truth is that

no one is going to stay at the back of the bus any more

while old men steer us to destruction

The truth is that

this is the dawn of a new beginning

and may well be the start of a revolution.

The truth is that

no matter how you strive to keep others down

the fighting spirit of a free soul will always rise against you.

A Click A Day

Message from an unexpected place – A Click A Day

During my walkabout, I came across this shop with the cute, funny looking guys. Their fixed smile made me smile, then I looked up at the board hanging on the door, which reads;

Believe you can and you are halfway there.

That simple quote settled in my mind.

It was like a confirmation. I felt I was meant to see that message because I had been tussling with some thoughts and doubting myself.

The owner probably put it up just as an aesthetic piece – or maybe those words mean something to him/her too, but I felt as though it was meant especially for me. Have you had such experience?

Let it Glow

When I saw the prompt ‘shine’ for The Daily Post, two thoughts automatically came to my mind, one in the manner of a song and the other a quote.

‘This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine,

let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

When you put off someone’s candle, yours ain’t going to shine brighter.

This tells me that we should be the shining examples that we would love to see in others. We should be the bright inspiration that uplifts others. We should be builders and not destroyers. Our actions and words build, encourages and uplifts.

For things that shine, I find dark nights not only mystical but equally magical as artificial light pierces pitch black nights, lending mystery to them and making the night less terrifying.

Writer's Quote Wednesday

Your Strength – Writers Quote Wednesday Writing Challenge.

PicsArt_08-25-06.18.21[1]

You never know much strength you have, until you have put yourself to the task.  Jacqueline

Your strength lies often in your brain
and not just in the brawn,
your strength lies often in your wisdom
and not just in the intellect,
your strength lies often in your diligence
and not just in an attempt,
your strength lies in your tolerance
and never in bigotry;
your strength lies with others
and never just on your own.

I would describe myself as a self-driven and purpose minded person, but sometimes I fall short of my own expectations and possibly the expectation of others as well.

However, I’ve learnt with time that when I partner with others, like my family, colleagues, and friends like you, I achieve far more than I even imagined.

Starting my blog was delayed for years because I felt that I didn’t have enough of what it takes to maintain a blog, but here I am today, plugging away everyday without looking back.

Now I don’t even have enough time in the day to attend to my writing needs due to all other responsibilities that have my name written on them. Nevertheless, I take a moment at a time and apply my best and continue the act of balancing the rest.

I enjoy the prompts for WQWWC. They give me the opportunity to reflect and possibly make my own quote around the topic at hand. You can always join in.
