The Bed of Sand – A Click a Day.

I honestly don’t have the right words to describe my reaction when I took a long walk yesterday and came across this Caterpillar with the man fast asleep under it. Look at the left side of the photo. Under the heavy artillery is a mound of a human being.

I was STARTLED! First off, I was ALARMED. I thought he was dead! Then I stooped low and heard the grunts and snoring. I felt relief, sad and worried all at the same time. What if he inhaled sand and choked? Did anyone know that he’s under this heavy duty machine?

I looked around and saw another fellow sitting with a far away look in his eyes’ – unfortunately, he didn’t understand one word of English, but my pointing and gesticulating might have come across to him – or maybe he ended up thinking that I’m one crazy black woman.

Imagine The Barrenness…

picsart_10-06-11-55-481

Imagine the World without trees.

A stark desert without the beauty of its greenery.

Hard to think of such barrenness;

For that means, there’ll be no life.

So, when you see a tree hugger,

don’t be in a haste to laugh.

In my place, when we say ‘may the forest be with you,’ it’s a prayer for your abundance of life, fertility and growth.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Awkward Moments – Streams of Consciousness Saturday.

I guess we all have an awkward moment now and again, but as long as it’s not fatal, we live through it and sometimes even find them quite amusing later. One of the moments I constantly feel that awkward silence is getting on a lift with strangers. I wonder if it’s the confining space, but there’s always this pervasive silence that hangs thick in the air and sometimes I try to break the silence by saying hello.socsbadge2016-17

On the other hand, I brought on my latest mortifying moment while doing a vegetable smoothie cleanse. I know that it’s a good thing but believe when I say that it does have its downsides as well 🙂

Two weeks ago, I was tired of feeling tired and heavy, so I decided to do a three days vegetable smoothie cleanse to flush my system because it felt sluggish, so I prepared a jug of veggie smoothie and took it overnight.

By morning time, I was happy to let out the junk in my trunk and went to the gym for a quick workout. I was happily trudging away on the stepper with my headphones and fave music blasting away when I had a grip of tummy rumbling gas. Feeling flustered, I gingerly tried to step off and get to the restroom, but alas, I didn’t make it!

Some noisome toot unwittingly  escaped by themselves overriding my will and grace to be ladylike. Based on the startled and judging looks that other patrons gave me, I guess it was loud enough (though I didn’t’ hear them because of my headphones).

Not my best moment yet, but hey, we all have those awkward moments in our lives and it’s just fine. Sometimes nature gets the better of you 😉

Our SOC’s prompt for today is ‘awkward’ and our gracious hostess for this weekend is Joey of Joeyfully Stated. Good job my lady.

The Garden Gnome and The Bonsai – A Click A Day

picsart_09-27-02-35-081

Psst! Psst! I thought my ears were hearing things.

I paused and saw the little guy.

His eyes twinkled in merriment and mischief.

In the soft garden breeze, I heard him whisper,

come and sit with me and I’ll show you some magic.

I’ll tell you incredible fairy tales,

right here under my Bonsai tree.

Of course, I had to stop and listen 🙂

Short Stories

The Wise One…

Nature wore her splendour in golden tones and everywhere looked so pretty even though our thoughts were heavy at the moment and our demeanours were sombre.

It was Ms. Maisie’s funeral and I simply knew within me that things would never be the same again because no one could be like Ms. Maisie our Sunday school teacher.

Every citizen in our little township had felt the warmth of her neighbourly love and almost everyone turned up to pay their last respects. She taught us more than the beautiful stories of the Bible in this little prefabricated structure  built by the joint effort of the community and for a few minutes, my senses conjured up the delicious whiff of her melt-in-the-mouth butter cookies that she always had in a tin and shared generously.

My eyes drifted out to stare at the yellowing leaves of the Dogwood she had planted years ago and I saw a beautiful, brown Owl perched on the wire fence looking back at me. I’d never seen an Owl in my life and wondered if there was a reason behind this. I knew everyone said that an Owl is the wise one and Ms. Maisie was certainly a wise lady.

Mundane Monday

Lessons From The Stubborn One – Mundane Monday

Mundane Monday Challenge is created to find beauty in almost everything.

The challenge is simple. Find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.

picsart_09-12-12-59-541

Looking at this shrub that jutted proudly and stubbornly out of the half cemented, sandy patch brought a lot of thoughts to my mind in relation to human life and I’ll share a few:

My mother always says that “when the beat to the dance changes, you change your rhythm or you are out.”

When life gets uncomfortable one just doesn’t give up, but they look for other ways of turning the discomfort into a comfort zone. That’s the only way to survive, for surely harsh times will come, but might not endure.

When others are planting shallow roots, take the extra time to make yours several inches deeper, because a strong foundation withstands more turbulence.

Sometimes, when our circumstances change, we should take our eyes away from the immediate picture that doesn’t look too bright and focus on the strength within as well as the bigger picture ahead of us. Like is said back home “that food that is hot right now, will eventually cool down, for no condition is permanent.”

It’s amazing how a small, jutting proud piece of grass made me philosophical, but what is the alternative to standing one’s ground?

Giving up?

That’s not an option!

Have a great week.

Saw this lovely feet patterns made on the sand during my evening walk, but alas, I didn’t see the birdie that owned the steps. I guess she took her walk earlier 🙂

For some reason, the pair of words ‘River & Stone’ that Ronovan gave us for this weeks’ haiku brings thoughts of possibilities to my mind.
