One thing that venturing into blogging has done for me, is the exposure to a plethora of beautiful, interesting and smart folks that I get to interact with such as Anna. I’ve followed Anna for some time now and one thing that strikes me is the conscientious effort, thought through information, and research that goes into her brilliant posts.
I’ve hinted to her that she has a wealth of experience that she can tap into and create a practical self-help handbook for Diabetes patients, from the standpoint of a person living with Diabetes. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see what time brings. Anna also happens to be one of my strategic partners in this place which in small words means a lot of support to me.
Thank you, Anna, for allowing me to poke my nose into your life a little 🙂
Hi, my name is Anna; I’ve been a WordPress blogger for a year and a half now. I was born & raised in what is Ukraine now; back in the day, it was USSR. I have lived in the USA for a few decades. I am divorced and have two wonderful daughters; both graduated from OSU and live in Columbus, Ohio area. Now I am happily divorced, although it wasn’t this way from the beginning. But it is now; I’ve come a long way.
I have worked in the nursing field in both the old country and here in the USA. Now that I am retired and on disability, I am trying to adjust to the changes in the scenery, so to speak, as well as to the studio living. Things are so different when you don’t work anymore.
I like traveling, seeing sights, trying new food and meeting new people. I dislike it when people have attitudes but generally get along with most everyone. I enjoy being independent and take care of everything myself, DIY, crafts, selling on eBay, mastering my photo taking skills, and of course, writing.
I’ve been thinking about starting my blog for a while now. Before that, I kept a diary but this was like writing in a vacuum. I craved the audience, the comments, the feedback, the constructive criticism, and the whole nine yards to help me get on the right track. What finally prompted me to start blogging, was a major life event when I was diagnosed with diabetes. Initially, I was in shock but when this passed, I decided that the time has come to start blogging and registered with the WordPress. The rest is the history.
I have grown to be a big fan of blogging. It helps to learn new things as well as thinking in a new way and sharing all this with my readers. Spreading awareness when necessary. Improving my writing skills which comes with practice. I believe in the power of blogging, and love to capture life moments through printed words. I derive satisfaction from knowing that my blogging articles provide help and inspiration.
Most of my posts are about type 2 diabetes, its complications. and related issues. Prior to publishing a post, I always do a research on the subject. Besides, I strive to write in a simple language that is easy to understand for those who are not in the healthcare field and will avoid complicated medical terminology whenever possible.
For example, last year I have blogged about describing Morning Highs which is a blood sugar spike that can occur in the morning hours to those having diabetes. My goal was to demonstrate a connection between blood sugar levels and sleeping patterns. I conducted a self-study that lasted a few days and involved checking blood sugar more often than I usually do as well as waking up in the middle of the night, then go back to sleep and up again in a few hours. Keeping up with this sleeping pattern was inconvenient, to say the least, but I was determined to continue for the sake of my experiment. Over a period of several days, I was able to establish a pattern that I graphed on Excel and included in my post.

I have set up a folder on my computer, titled Unpublished. It contains blogging ideas that I come across or happen to think about every once in a while. This serves as a reminder of what I have to post and is a great motivator. I keep adding to it on nearly a daily basis so it becomes a long-term goal. Pretty similar to what Obama calls rhymes-with-bucket list.

In addition, the feedback or comments from my readers are invaluable and present a great source of motivation as well as continuous learning. Recently, a follower has requested that I write about sleep disorders, and I sure did. Here’s my first post on the subject. https://comeinsitdown.wordpress.com/2016/09/23/five-stages-of-sleep-and-what-affects-them/ More to follow.
Realizing that exposing certain details of my life on a large blogging platform that WordPress is, makes me vulnerable. There is always a possibility of being misunderstood or labeled. But I am a doer and not a quitter.
Absolutely. Blogging has lots of benefits to it. It is a great way to voice your opinion and learn in the process while building your writing strength. The more blogs you write, the more confidence you build to eventually be able to discuss them verbally.
Last but not least, you can eventually start making money from blogging. What can be better than working from home while doing what you enjoy? You can blog in your pajamas.
As Katherine Graham once said, “To love what you do and feel that it matters — how could anything be more fun?”
In my typical day, I do some driving around, grocery shopping, visit with friends, take photos or just walk in the street. At home, I read books, listen to music, and watch videos whether from YouTube or my own DVDs. After having “cut the cord”, no more cable TV. Chores, cooking etc. Then if one of my items is sold on eBay, will pack and ship it. And of course, writing. Or just sit there and do nothing.
I am still in the process of further polishing and improving my writing skills, especially working on writing introductions. A good introduction is an integral part of a well-written blog.
Once I am through with that, will likely consider hosting my blog, to enable it see more of the wide world and further expand the circle of my readers.
Today, I am thankful for the fact that I passed my Karate-do grading test, graduating from novice white to yellow belt. Yes!
As an overweight mom in her early forties, I found every reason under the blue sky to discourage myself from taking Karate classes – I used my age, my weight, time and every excusable excuse – but the desire in me was stronger than my excuses.
I felt that I would be out of place and yes I’m still out of place – the only mama in the crowd of young children and men.
I told myself that my painful knees wouldn’t take it and would probably break.
Somedays, I felt too lazy to go for the night class and each day I had a class, I literally had to ask for the grace to survive it and I bought knee braces.
I knew within me that sticking to it was not going to be easy, but it would be far more empowering as against standing by the sidelines and watching others.
My children encouraged me and became my private coach at home even as I bungled all my moves 🙂
Yes, I burst into tears when I did my test and passed my katas to the cheer of everyone around – I can get emotional.
No, I didn’t tear my dojo pants as I feared I would and made sure I wore nice unmentionables just in case 😉
My heart felt full last night when I received my grading certificate.
I don’t care that I might be the elephant in the house entertaining others with my trundling moves, but you know what, I said I would do it, I had to ask for grace each day to do it and I did it 🙂
I’m sharing this post to encourage those who have things they want to do, but for some excuses are not able to.
Each day grace and gratitude take me higher; get your thankful suit on.

One of the decisions I made earlier this year is to reduce as much as possible, my families consumption of fizzy pops, KoolAids, Caprisun, Tang and all such drinks and to replace them with fresh, healthier options.
Initially, it was not an easy sell to the children and Dear Himself. I heard a lot of moans and groans to start with, but it caught on right after the first trial run. Now, we bulk purchase a variety of fruits, juice them, mix them, make smoothies out of different blends and bottle to freeze.
The children participate in doing this, from washing the fruits, to peeling, to juicing with the electric juicer….
The process is fun since they get to eat the sweet pulp from the fruits and to label their hard work. Each school morning, a bottle of frozen homemade juice is tossed into their lunch box (it retains its freshness from freezing and would have melted by break time) and they bring back the bottles, rinse it out with warm water and reuse.
The interesting thing is that when we eat out these days, the kids compare the drinks they get outside to the one that we make at home and their verdict is that our’s is better 😉
How do you get your children to assist in the house? I love to learn from others.

I went to buy a bit of ground cinnamon and found myself buying a few curious blend of spices that I’ve never tried before.
I also bought some Chickpeas that I’ll use to prepare Hummus and I’ll share the recipe with you later 🙂
I saw this urine wall chart in a restroom and I’ve got my tongue in my cheek as I ask such a cheeky question; how is your piss?
One’s eyes may be the window to their soul, but the toilet bowl is certainly a window into your body.
The state of one’s piss (please bear with me and don’t laugh) has a lot to say about your health and let it not be said that you are piss poor. Here’s an interesting article on the origin of the popular saying “piss poor.”
Hydrate some more today.

Today, I am grateful for the little, simple things of life. For the gift of a new day, waking up, working out briskly, enjoying a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice and my own tasty homemade minestrone soup. Yummy 😊
I am especially grateful for passing an academic assessment that had kept my studious nose on a grindstone like a high scholar.
I appreciate the little moments of life’s serenity to exhale and to be my best. The bits of opportunities life brings me each day must never be taken for granted; to live, to laugh, to love, to cry, to hope and to believe.
Each day I strive not to toss the day aside like an unwanted penny left by the sidewalk, knowing fully well that the addition of each penny increases the value of your total holding.
There’s always something to be grateful for.

TODAY is bright and the beginning of the rest of my life. Each day is an opportunity to improve on yesterday and I must make myself accountable for each day.
The fragility of human life has grown even more tenuous these days that I wonder if at the hurried rate hatred and violence is eating into the fabric of humanity if people will grow to ripe old age anymore even with the fact that we seem to be more scientifically aware than ever before? I don’t think so! For it does seem that the more we know, the more tenuous life becomes and it brings it home to me that I have to endeavour to live better each day.
I am a firm believer that God inhabits the praise of his people and I see the pep in my steps when I wake each morning and face the rising Sun in thanksgiving. I have compared my grateful heart to my heart that has often sojourned in a labyrinth of dark emotions and I know the better difference.
I have no crystal ball to show me all that may transpire around me before the day is over, all that I am in a position to do, is to accept the Grace and Mercy given and the Will Power to equip myself with mindful, positive truths and reflections to live my life for each day like a prayer.
I am grateful for a conscious heart, mind, good health and the simple things of life because every other thing is just an addition.

For quite a while now, most weekends I involve all my children in cooking a meal or two.
This was how I learnt in my mothers’ kitchen and it’s invaluable to start them young (as soon as they are old enough to help with bringing the tomatoes) for so many reasons.
…and yes, the food tastes extra special 🙂
Yesterday, we made our own version of baked potatoes and vegetable casserole with meatballs.
My daughter selected and washed the items according to my directions – I was the Operations Director 😉
They all participated in the paring, grating, cubing of the vegetables and potatoes, whilst mommy’s responsibility was to add the spices, assemble the processed items and set it to bake.
Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures of the finished product before we dug into it, luckily, I took a couple of photos when we started.
Recipe:
1 big sweet potatoes – peeled, washed and grated
3 medium sized Irish potatoes – peeled, washed and cubed
Half a head of Broccoli
3 large tomatoes
1 large onions
4 medium carrots – peeled, washed and grated
4 big white mushrooms
I large yellow bell pepper.
2 beaten eggs for binding.
Fresh garlic – out of a clove, I use like 4 pieces.
Spinach – a handful
A sprinkle of parsley
Oregano – half teaspoon
A dash of curry spice
Salt – 3 teaspoons
2 cubes of Maggi stock
25-50 gms of grated cheddar cheese – layered through and sprinkled on top.
1 pack of minced meat – spiced and rolled into balls with breadcrumbs.
Served a family of 5 with generous helpings and leftovers 🙂
Have a great weekend and do share your tips with us.
