What My Mama Said To Me…4

Related image

Mama said to me, baby if you find that you are not happy there,
never choose to remain there in a sad state,
because you haven’t been planted like an Iroko tree.

Don’t you know that even an Iroko tree can decide to excuse itself
by choosing to rot and wither from within,
rather than suffer the insult of insolent birds?

Mama said to me, baby,

anyone who keeps dragging you three steps back

when you manage to take one step forward,

must be left behind

to admire your back view

as you hustle along.

if you try to move forward

Why not use the reverse

My mama said to me
“Baby, don’t look for others to lift you up,
‘cos you’ll be disappointed.”

Field of Souls…Scene 2

Terror, Poetry

He heard them.
They were coming
but he couldn’t run.

The Earth spurted blood
black birds circled in foreboding,
this farm is a prison and he’s its convict.

In a bright panorama,
he saw horrific things,
things that jarred his senses in an unspeakable way

The beaten and the burnt,
the hung and the torn,
the shackled and the maimed.

The tears, the gore,
and the stench of death filled his nostrils,
it clung to his skin and seeped into his bones.

Field of Souls…scene 1

Terror, Poetry

He walked the fields
the whispering ears of corn
caused him to shiver

tendrils of the melon
entwined his ankles
in an attempt to pull him down

ripe melons turned into heads
gruesomely lopped off
and rolling on the plantation floor

The sights he saw
made him break out in a cold sweat
his feet rooted to the ground too heavy to move

Hold It!

I seek my contentment and peace without apologies because it can’t be purchased and it’s so easy to lose in today’s world.

Contentment, Meditation, Healing, Life, Joy, Pain, Letting Go, Release, Human, Emotions, Feelings, Poetry, Healthy Living

when you’ve been pierced
by the blunt edge of pain
you will know that
the sharp sweetness of joy
is far better to hold
close to your chest.
