Longing – Everyday beautiful people 88

“Sometimes we spend our time longing deeply for things that we can’t have and miss those things that are available to us. I guess that’s called life”  Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

Mannequin[1]

I’m all dressed and good to go. Can someone please let me out of here.

That’s my imagined thoughts of the mannequins desire as it gazes longingly at passersby 😉

If these dolls can talk, I wonder what they’ll say?

Jacqueline writes from her heart on passion, pain, suffering, loss and LIFE. I have been incredibly moved by her poetry and I know I will return to “Out of the Silent Breath” again and again.

The Sweet Man – Everyday beautiful people 86

“Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain

“Except you open your eyes and explore the corners around you, you will walk past every beautiful thing on your path, failing to see the Orchids hidden among the Roses.” Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

In my wandering through some backstreets of Deira over the weekend, I stumbled upon the sweet shop and like a sugar ant I was drawn in 🙂

The shop owner was quite gracious as I took photos and had a brief chat with him. He’s from Bangladesh and has been living in Dubai for 22 years. He also has sweet tooth.

When I asked him how much of the sweets he eats in a day, he shook his head from side to side and said not so much again, because he can’t afford to lick all his profits. That gave me a good chuckle.

Friendship – Everyday beautiful people 85

“Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.” Edna Buchanan

Friends[1]

I sat yesterday nursing a smoothie after work and trying to write a couple of lines before moving along, but as usual my eyes’ were drawn to passersby when the two lovely ladies strolled by leisurely chatting, laughing and hands entwined as they admired the dresses through the boutiques show glass.

My eyes trailed them for several minutes and after a while I could no longer resist going up to chat with them briefly. They shared bits about themselves and their philosophy with me and I went away feeling fuller in spirit and wearing a smile.

Indeed, friends can be found in unlikely places and a true friend will accept who you are, will hold your hand and will help you become who you should be.

Go Green – Everyday beautiful people 84

Go_green[1]

Isn’t it interesting how we use colour phrases to express a depth of meaning to certain things even emotions?

The term Going green is defined as making more environmentally friendly decisions such as to reduce, reuse and recycle and at the same time is an idiomatic expression used to express ‘Going green with envy.’

Work, work, work – Everyday beautiful people 82

“The only way to do great work is to love what you do.” Steve Job

Man_in_window[1] Man_in_window_2[1] Man_in_window_3[1] Man_in_window_4[1]

I heard loud, consistent thumping sounds on the window and when I could no longer ignore it, I had to have a look.

It was startling to find this fellow dangling on a rope, with pails and gallons and washing windows, 34 floors up in the air.

For several minutes, I watched as he worked efficiently and even carried on a conversation with his colleague who was a few feet away from him – unfortunately, I couldn’t get a photo of the second guy.

I was green around the gills just watching him and can never imagine what that must be like. Some jobs do require lots of gumption.

Street photo and people – Everyday beautiful people 81

“We are all first born humans until we allow the classifying terms of race, religion, politics and wealth to wield its divisive mechanisms of separation in our midst.” Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha

Street photos

I love this random photo I took on the street. Each person is getting on with his daily affair. Each person has his own story to tell.

Each person adds to the jigsaw of the tapestry that makes up humanity.

Secret Kind Gesture – Every day beautiful people 80

“No act of kindness no matter how small is ever wasted.” Aesop

“No one has ever become poor by giving.” Anne Frank

“The heart that gives gathers.” Tao Te Ching

Giving_1[1] Giving[1]

Some days, you get to witness things that leaves you feeling warm and know that yes humanity has some milk of human kindness flowing in the veins of some folks.

Last Friday, I sat alone reading a magazine and just floating through thoughts on my notepad when this fella strolled past me during Iftar time (fast breaking time for Muslims) and many were eating or waiting for their food.

Initially, I thought he was a young child, but on taking a closer look I realized that he’s a very small/short grown man, no  rudeness meant, but he would be referred to as a midget.

He was looking longingly at my sandwich as he walked by, but because of the way of life over here, he couldn’t approach me, however, to my relief and gladness, some gentleman sitting close by gave him some money – coins.

You need to see how this little fellow’s features transformed and the smile that lit up his face touched me. I felt so happy that as I was leaving, I stopped by the table of the giver to say thank you and he was totally embarrassed that I even bothered to come and thank him. All the giver repeated was “Mashallah” which I understand means Thanks be to Allah or as we Christians would say, Thanks be to God.

Showing kindness to a less fortunate around us is not in the weight of what we give, but in the spirit of how we give it. A little kindness can go a long way.

Thank you Niki for hosting the kindness challenge. I enjoyed participating 🙂

Learn – Every day beautiful people 79

“The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.” Brian Herbert

Learning[1]

At whatever age we find ourselves, we must continue to learn. Growing older does not equate to not living life as full and as enriched as you possibly can as long as your faculties and health are still functioning, in other words, as long as you are alive.

Keep LEARNING!
