Midnight Motivation and Musings # 102

Your life is never going to be perfect and neither are you

So, quit wasting time and waiting for the perfect time to do those things that you wish to do.

The more we keep pushing aside the things that we desire to do, hoping for a perfect time and so on, we not only act as though we are in charge of the time or the future, but we actually set up ourselves for unhappiness, discontentment…

We forget that tomorrow waits for no one and that all you are guaranteed is today; this very moment that you have.

The future actually belongs to those who push aside the excuses of waiting for everything to be perfect and get going to the place where they need to be.

Now is that perfect time and the future is actually now.

  1. Dear Jacqueline, Thank you always for your great posts, short , sweet, to the point and full of power. Truly love this. I do wonder where this perfectionism need comes from . Do we walk out of school after 100 exams thinking there is a right and wrong and no grey?

Great post, loved the entire piece.. Opening statement – superb.

  2. so true. The only exception is when my husband and I were baking together at Cupcake Cache and if the batch wasn’t 98 percent perfect, my husband threw it away. High standards to have the cake, icing, and everything just so. It killed me to throw away a batch but in the end, it was the right thing to do.

      1. Jackqueline, I would love if you ever sit down to eat a cupcake in Dubai to post that picture! Sugardady’s was one of the places which inspired me to bake cupcakes when I returned from Abu Dhabi.

  3. I have had to explain to my husband the difference between perfectionism and the quest for excellence. Perfectionism is a crippling disease that I have had to battle. I have gotten much better and applaud myself any time I say “Good enough!”

  4. The first hurdle that must be overcome with perfectionism is just starting something and being able to do things a little at a time. I really prefer to do the whole job at one time but that’s not always possible. I have to quit procrastinating and get on with it even if it’s going to take days or weeks to complete. The next problem that we encounter is getting all tied up with trying to make something perfect which for some things is impossible. Even if it is possible, if it takes up too much time then you’ll never get to anything else that needs to be done. I fight this every day at work. When we slice meats and cheeses for the Grab-N-Go case, it has to look neat and appetizing or people won’t buy it. On the other hand, I have A LOT of other things that I need to get done (I am the supervisor back there,) so I can’t spend all my time fussing over little things. So it’s a delicate balance. I also have to resist the urge to micromanage. There are things that are important that they get done a certain way then there are things that it doesn’t matter as long as it gets done. I have to harp so much on the important things that if I start adding all the little things that annoy me, they’ll just tune me out, and that would be bad!!
