I don’t know what your are thinking, but this is what I am talking about 😉
The Vervet monkey, a native of Africa does have blue balls. You can click on this Wikipedia link for more details.
I have mixed feelings about caged animals. One part of me feels sorry for them and that they should be in the wild where they belong, then the hungry part of me that wants to know so much is glad to see them in the zoo where I get to know about them. A difficult feeling to reconcile.

This is the first time I heard of blue balls, and also my first time seeing this type of monkey. I didn’t know they existed! Thanks for sharing, Jacqueline. 🙂

Thank you Funsie. Blue balls is a humourous way of addressing frozen or cold scrotum *winking naughtily*

I understand your mixed feelings on caging animals. I love visiting zoos, but IMO, they deserve to live free and happy. A lot of zoo animals have to be given anti-depressants. It’s so sad. 😦

Seriously! Anti-depressants. Oh dear! That doesn’t sound good at all 😦

What a sad face he has ! Many zoos are now getting rid of the concrete cages and replacing them with a more natural, open environment. I do feel immensely sad for those that are still imprisoned in bars and cement 😦 That being sad, how interesting is this !!

That’s the same struggle that I have. Sadness that they are caged, yet I find it interesting that I am able to see them.

Yes, it’s a mixed bag, isn’t it. Some species only survive because they are in protected spaces.

I dislike seeing any animal behind bars (my budgie said I had to say that) but in some cases it’s the only way a species would survive because so many are endangered now.

I hate to see animals caged like this. They should be free or in a zoo where their surroundings are a natural habitat.

I am totally with you on that.

Hahaha! Both informative and funny considering the other meaning of blue balls.
I can’t get over the vibrant shade of blue of the Vervet monkey’s though, it’s as if someone painted over them with a coloured marker. Ah! The beauty of nature.
Thank you for sharing, it cheered me up. 😀

I initially thought he sat on something, then I saw that they all had it. Quite interesting and was only discovered in 2012.

Thanks for sharing. I am with you. I am conflicted over zoos as well. While I agree animals should be free and in their natural habitats,I do love visiting zoos and learning about the animals. As someone said before perhaps it will help those that are endangered. Still conflicted tho.

I am doubtful if we can ever reconcile those feelings we have. Thank you for your comments and visit.

Very interesting! I personally think it is the blood showing through that makes it look blue. Let’s hope it is that and not because they are frozen. LOL!

I tried to read up the explanation on Wikipedia, it was too lengthy but it does have something to do with blood distribution and pigmentation.

I have always heard that our blood is blue when it is inside of us and turns red when it hits the air.
