Quirks are idiosyncratic habits that distinguishes us as individuals.![1455205959464[1]](https://acookingpotandtwistedtales.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/14552059594641.jpg?w=392&h=392)
It may not necessarily be peculiar to us, but those close to us identify us with these little quirks which can be sometimes amusing or annoying.
It may or not be found attractive by your close ones, but they live with it out of love for you 😉
Please, there is a huge difference between bad manners and quirkiness. They are not interchangeable.
Some people behave badly and bad manners is not cute, period! I just had a little rant post, about such here.
For instance back home, we have something they call ‘African time’ it totally gets on my nerves.
You invite people for a ‘do’ that is scheduled to start at 2pm and they turn at 5pm and it’s viewed as normal.
I respect people’s time, so, whenever we are invited out back home, I will want to go on time, but my husband, will drag his feet until two hours later before we leave and truth be told, he is usually right, because others start arriving at that time and we are not left coming too early and possibly catching the hostess still in her hair net and night gown.
Personally, I had a habit of eating out of my husbands plate and feeding him tidbits of the day’s events. I wonder why his food always looked tastier – meanwhile, I am the one that prepared it.
The poor guy was askance and it took a while for him to get used to my dipping into his plate.
Funny enough, I have let go of this habit, which I got to realize that I picked up from my mother who used to do exactly the same thing with my dad all through their lives together. I was becoming my mother.
I let it go because my husband tends to eat late and it wasn’t helping my weight matters, now, he is the one trying to coax me to join him – looking for a partner in crime of eating late, though on some days he succeeds in persuading me 😉

The Daily Post Quirk of habit.
Which quirky habit annoys you the most, and what quirky habit do you love — in yourself, or others.
but it is always such fun to eat out of somebody else’s plate!

I sometimes pinch stuff of my husband’s plate, but more often than not he will slide something onto mine as he knows what I am like! 🙂

He knows you well enough now to slide something over before you start pinching 😉

Thank you for showing there is a difference between bad manners and quirkiness. I just don’t think I would be me without my quirks. 🙂 And I agree, food is always tastier off someone else’s plate. 🙂

It truly does 😉 I wouldn’t be me too without my quirks. Thank you Jess

I have been called idiosyncratic because of my strong tendency toward independent thought. I am known to travel all over the map in the formation of my opinions, which I’m afraid are many. Eccentric isn’t considered cool in this communal age in fact, some might want to give me a pill or two to make me more like others…but I’m not crazy and as long as I don’t force my opinions on others my strong individual streak isn’t bad manners. It all boils down to knowing ourselves, being honest in self-assessment, and then holding ourselves in check. My husband eats all night too and loves to say, “I eat whatever I want and she gains the weight.” It’s really hard not to eat when someone else is eating…

Pam dear, we do share quite a number of things. My husband thinks I can be a stubborn goat when I stick to my grounds and its not been opinionated just knowing myself. I agree with you, it’s so hard to keep my mouth shut when he is tempting me with food 😉

My husband says, “You always think you’re right.” I say, “Well, am I wrong?” “No.” My next question, “So you want me to doubt myself so you feel better about me being right?” Silence…. Then we eat something. lol!

When my husband and I go out to eat at a restaurant, it somehow feels that his order was better than mines so I eat some of his food off his plate…lol. I totally agree with you though on the tardiness African culture thing. Even though thats my homeland, I grow up in Canada and tardiness bugs me. Good post.

Pamela, this happens to me all the time and I mean all the time. I always feel that he got the better order, then I start picking at his stuff. The thing about our culture in lateness can be very annoying. Last time I went home, I was so put off by some of the attitude with time matters.

When I was growing up my Dad used to call being late CP (Colored Peoples) Time!! My Dad was a stickler for being prompt. Thanks to him I’m rarely late to work and only if the subways malfunction.

It’s just ridiculous at times with this time thing.

In a large family, we often tasted each other’s food when out at a restaurant…but if you tried that at home, you’d “pull back a stump”. ☺ So, that’s one I don’t do…but there are so many others. One simple one that drives me nuts…my husband will turn out the lights, even if I leave the kitchen for a few minutes in the middle of food prep. I have way too many to mention. ☺☺☺

He’s saving on energy 😉 I have a long list that drives me crazy at times, but have learnt to live with it.

I also like to nibble off the hubby’s plate. I thought I was the only one.

I am Haitian. The “late to events” drive me nuts. Especially when I have everything ready and need to wait for my peoples to get there 3 hours later. Or when I arrive to a 3 pm party and eat at 10pm…

I have had that food experience and it can get quite irritating. Simply rude in my opinion.

hmmm I may run on African time myself…but not quite 3 hrs behind. More like 10 mins 🙂 I was thinking I had quirks but I realized i was thinking about pet peeves… like certain noises that drive me crazy (chewing loudly etc)…I have to think about my quirks.

10 minutes is nothing compared to some people that I know. Almost borders on ridiculous. Chewing loudly is a pet peeve of mine. It annoys me!

My mother runs on “grandma time.” You must tell her 1/2 hour earlier than you want her to show up! Also, I try not to pick off my hubby’s plate as he grew up in a large family and hates that! If, however, I ask nicely, he is kind enough to let me taste his food, which I LOVE about him!! He knows I just want a bite, I’m not trying to get him to share!

Grandma is running vintage time 😄😄. My hubby couldn’t get the whole thing at first but it grew on him, now he gives before I ask like yours 😊

Oh gosh!! My husband always drags his feet as well and it drives me nuts! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that man in a hurry for anything. I’m not sure what he’d do if he was in a burning building!!

Mine too. I just can’t get it at times.

Oh, we call ours ‘Caribbean time’ haha. I hate waiting for people and I hate people waiting for me. For work matters and services, I like to show up 10 to 15 minutes early. I like showing up on time for everything else, if I am late I feel so guilty for tne rest of the event. I respect time, you can never replace it when it is gone.

Oh TRUST ME! I KNOW about that “African Time.” In fact, over here we call it “CP Time” (Colored People. I know that sounds weird but I didn’t make it. I just use it.) Yeah, I try to respect people’s time as much as I can. Of course, when we’re really close as friends or family, well… no promises. 😛 Ah. But quirks are a great thing. They’re often charming. I wonder what mine are…?
