It’s was an exciting evening as we ushered in the year 2016 with fantastic fireworks, which went on for well over fifteen minutes.
I like to be in the thick of such positive memorable moments, so we set off early enough to get a vantage viewing point, because I can assure you that people traveled from all over to Dubai in their thousands for the New Year Eve’s party at the foot of the Bury Khalifa, the title holder for the tallest building in the World.
It was well organised but a bit of misfortune was unfolding at the same time.
For several hours just adjacent to the Burj another high rise – The Address 5 star hotel was on fire. We experienced initial moments of panic, watching in despair from outside, but things were quickly brought under control.
The response team was quite swift in evacuating people thereby minimizing casualties. No deaths have been recorded thankfully.
Edited short video clips are attached.
Are those your videos? What a moment to catch.

Yes they are mine. It was a moment of mixed feelings watching the blazing fire and then the huge crowd filled with excitement of New Years Eve fireworks.

I just learnt how to upload my videos on YouTube so I was testing my skills by posting the edited copy. It was so huge before but I had to scale it down. Blogging is making me learn lots of stuff like editing a video 🙂

Thanks you my dear and happy new year. It was quiet scary initially. We had to hurry out of the mall and everyone trooped outside to watch the fire which was blazing high but I must say that their efficiency is quite commendable. The building on fire is about the same height as the Eiffel Tower.

My eyes almost popped out when I read you mentioned “same height as the Eiffel Tower”. Salute to the firefighters! While everyone else is enjoying the year-end parties, they are on standby or working.

Honestly, I have developed another level of respect for them.

Thankfully. The people in the hotel must have been terrified. Someone had a heart attack in the process but thank God no life was lost.

Judy, thank you so much. Now I have an idea what a burning building can look like and I don’t think I care to see one more in my lifetime. It is scary and we thank God no lives were lost. Happy New Year to you and yours.

Thanks love. It was not a joke to watch that kind of blaze. Firemen are very brave people.

Yes they are…was telling my oldest son that the other day when he carelessly said that firemen have an easy job…uh, no they don’t. Not in the least bit.

It sure did. Was scary to watch from outside. I couldn’t even imagine what the people inside the hotel felt. In the Mall we got panicky and ran out.

Oh my…the panick at the mall could have been another one. Surely its jampacked. Good that there’s no stampede or some sort…..

It was packed to the hilt. I haven’t seen that number of people in there before. People calmly came out. It was just well coordinated. No stampede of any sort.

That’s a good thing though..Dubai is well trained on drills…but it is really not the best idea to be in Dubai mall on NYE…he he he… anyway…..hope you still had a great New Year 🙂
