“Camouflage is a game we all like to play, but our secrets are as surely revealed by what we want to seem to be as by what we conceal.” — Russell Lynes
”I am totally preening with pride.” No, it’s not a camouflage.” ”I am preening because today’s prompt for Writing 101 was humbly offered by me and accepted by Ben Huberman.”
”So I crave your indulgence while I inundate you with poetry 🙂 ”
…
I bottled it all up
Covered it with a heavy top
Saying, oh it didn’t matter
Which was simply a blatter
For the hits that I took below
Left scars that beat me hollow
Sometimes, I cry in deep sorrow
But I shake it off in hope of tomorrow.

It’s time for a little game of poetic hide-and-seek with Day 9’s prompt, Camouflage, by the prolific @jacquelineobyikocha.
I know many spouses go through this. Their sorrow is deep but they are always hoping for a better tomorrow which in many cases hardly comes.

I think it is common with human nature. Some struggle with jobs they don’t like, with horrible bosses, with partners, with past experiences, but as a society we bottle up a whole lot, not allowing our real feelings to show forth.

My sisters and Mother talked about shutting ourselves off in times of trouble. It’s not good to shut out those who would support you if they knew.

That’s true Beth. It’s just that sometimes, people are far more worried about other peoples impressions than getting help for their problems. I like your families approach to opening up.

Yes. We should serve as each others prop and not a source of dragging down.

Thank you Jahnavi. I realize that even though we use words to describe how we feel and to speak, that humans tend to hide away a whole lot going on in their lives. I am glad that the prompt gave you room to explore a bit further.

I am learning to let people who genuinely care in, it is a bumpy ride but somehow someday, I hope to let others know before they make the same mistake.

We all have things we don’t wanna talk about, like ever. But that makes us who we are. Truly, life can be a game of camouflage and the words used to describe it are wonderful.
