Midnight Motivations and Musings 100

Life is full of crooked paths that we don’t envisage, no matter how much we plan.

Of course, there are certain things that we can take charge of and brace ourselves for incidentals, but there’s really so much that one can do.

However, when we keep our minds on a positive track, we’ll find a way through that tight and crooked path onto a more suitable highway.

Writing is not an easy path at all. It’s not a journey to instant wealth, but when we look at the fulfilment derived and also know that our works will hopefully ingrain themselves on the sands of time, that is gratification that keeps you going through this windy and tedious path.

**today I realised that this is the 100th-midnight musings post and it amazes me that I’ve been able to keep up with it**

She is amazing at describing love and life in her poems. She creates such beautiful images with her words. Truly, she is a talented writer and I’m so excited to have her poetry book and to continue reading through it.

Achieve[1]

It’s our patience that lends us the required strength to endure and those high achievers that you admire, are not necessarily the most talented people in the world.

They are simply those whose feet remain firmly planted on the ground, they run after their lofty ideas and carry on long after others have thrown in the towel.

Sometimes, it may be hard for us to stay the course and to see the small improvements that we make day by day, but if we endure in our endeavours and take it step by step, the job gets done effectively and our talent tends to look brighter.

Keep going.

From the very first poem, “Dreams,” this book captivates with passionate and perceptive words. Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha captures a broad expanse of the human experience in this book of richly layered poems.

Responsibility and ownership of shortcoming are difficult aspects that most struggle with.

Excuses will be made with anything plausible and some will prefer to keep shifting the blame other than shifting the chunk of hubris that denies them the pleasure of seeing themselves in stark reality.

Growth demands that we wake up to the reality of our true selves. It’s until we are honest with ourselves that our new possibilities emerge and we make our dreams come true.

I’m halfway through with this book and was compelled to leave a review. I absolutely love this book of poems. My favorites are “Love Rations” (for those who love to give the silent treatment) and “Beggars Supper” (which definitely pulls at the heart strings). Two thumbs up!!

Life · Three quote challenge

My recent thoughts…

Cybernetic blonde invited me for the quote challenge and my mind drifted to African proverbs.  Thank you, Brenda 🙂1465108007692[1]

From time immemorial, proverbs have been used by elders in my place to punctuate and convey important messages during a conversation.

When I was younger and my parents or grandparents spoke in proverbs, idioms, and all the wise words, I barely understood, but as I age, I find them worth ruminating over especially when I find myself in a quandary of thoughts.

“Even the best cooking pot will not produce food when no fire is lit underneath.”

“When building a house and the nail breaks, do you stop building or do you change the nail?”

“If you run after two Hares, you will catch neither.”

These three proverbs above reflect the thoughts that have been going through my mind of late. So let me briefly explain them.

The first is an advice to myself that even though I have all the storyline of my second book known to me until I sit down and flesh it out as I should, those ideas won’t miraculously turn into a book.

The second one has to do with some mind distractions that I’ve been having of late. So many loose ends of things to tie up and I’m using them as an excuse to digress from doing what needs to be done. It’s time to drop that tack and get serious.

Lastly, I remind myself to taper off unnecessary things and concentrate. Running after too many things at once will all make me harried and at the end of the day, nothing would have been achieved.

So, back to tapering off, tacking with the right nails and cooking up those stories.

Do you fancy a whirl at quotes? Indulge 🙂

A lot of us are used to setting off with a task at hand and never completing them. We start all out with zeal, taking leaps, and bounds in days and by the end of the week, month or set time, we’ve backslid so far we can’t even see the frontline where we started from.

Note to self: Try to stay on track by, setting reasonable goals and timelines, setting anticipated steps to get to goals, make a plan for drawbacks and strategy to get back on track when and if we do backslide…like I have a thousand times and make yourself accountable.

Learn to forgive yourself when you fall off, pick up lessons on how and why you fell off the wagon and also take into account making time for rest, recuperation, revving your engine and rebounding back. It’s better to be consistent than bursts of starts and stops that get nowhere.

Sometimes, working with a team of others helps to keep us on track, helps to sharpen our skills and also helps to uplift us when we experience a glitch. Consider team building with others as a way of strengthening your base.

Shalom!

Gratitude · Life

Just hang in there…personal

Honestly, I’m thankful that it’s almost weekend over here and the school exams will be done with tomorrow.

I notice that not only is my mental acuity flagging from all the drilling revisions with the children, coupled with other responsibilities, I also feel a bit tense, so the weekend will be a most welcome pleasure.

The brilliant aspect is that all the grilling revisions are paying off. My first son’s exam grades came in looking shiny, so such news energized me a bit and I’m totally grateful because his subjects gave me more concern than those of his siblings.

The truth is that I secretly nursed an occasional thought of anxiety at his results at the back of my mind but I knew that since fear or worry wouldn’t solve any problems, the best thing to do is to work hard and commit the rest into the hands of God and I am not disappointed 🙂

Gratitude has been teaching me a lot. It has changed my perspective and has enriched my life far more than I can say.

There’s always something to be thankful for. I hope you find some reason to be.

Hurt! Are you hurting and have you let all the pain become defining factors in your life? How many of us have let hurt keep us down?

It’s natural for us to feel hurt or disappointed from failures and possibly withdraw into our shells, but the sad thing is that some take it that it’s the way their life is meant to be, thus they remain withdrawn or at best living their lives at half mast.

Remember that the entirety of your life is far bigger than one fall, so you must keep rising. Remember that odd circumstance could just be a detour that could always turn around.

Remember that those deliberate negative aims from others are just in a bid to keep you where they feel most comfortable ‘under their thumb.’

Ask yourself. Is that where you deserve to belong?

Next week, I’ll share a post on how to get past the pain and to live on purpose.

P.S. You are invited to our monthly blog party this weekend. It’s fun and you get to meet fantastic folks:-)

Midnight Motivations and Musings # 89

The fastest way to take away the joy from your everyday living is to consistently spend your time comparing your life to someone else’s.

Set your own goals and stay focused on them.

Always ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing? What’s the primary purpose?

That way you don’t run the risk of drifting like a used paper napkin that floats in the wind, from one track to the other.

When you stay on track, you get to your goal post, but drifting will find you aimless, stressed and not getting to the desired destination.

Like my people would say back home “after the race, we count the miles.” Don’t exhaust yourself and run the race only to find at the end that you ran aimlessly.

We have no idea how much we do for our hearts and minds when we embark on a journey of self-discovery and freedom.

Each of us has a different path to take to their ‘Uhuru.’ Though we may keep each other company and cross paths, my path can’t lead you to the end of yours.

Each of us has different shackles to loosen to set us free. Each of us has many rivers to cross, mountains to climb and time spent in the valley.

What I’ve found is that once you’ve chosen to walk into the light and positivity, then begins the joyful results of freedom.

Freedom is not a result that comes idly. Freedom is a consistent journey of the mind and it’s in that process of finding your freedom that you truly become free.

Can you imagine what life would be like if we all encouraged one another to be the best that they can be?

How would it be, if every single soul lit up their lamp of talents and didn’t hide it under a bushel of excuses or discouragement?

I guess absolutely brilliant would be an understatement.

It is commonly said that the graveyard is the richest place with the brightest and untapped talents that are buried and sadly, this is very true.

Let’s keep encouraging those around us to thrive, for we bring about greater good when we do this.

Iron sharpens iron and the energy spent in blowing off someone’s candle is wasted because it won’t make yours shine brighter than it already does.
