Life in the jungle is brutal

The Cheetah pursued with power and grace

The gazelle raced for her life

The race is not to the fleet,

neither power, a free gift

but wisdom from above trumps them all.

Indulgence…Streams of Consciousness Saturday

My Stream of Consciousness Saturday comes out late because I had a brainwave yesterday and indulged in something that’s almost become a novelty for me.

I shut down my systems completely throughout yesterday, took a novel and my mat to the park with my children where I read, dozed off to sleep to the tweet of birds, the gentle breeze, the sound of children playing in the background, the tantalizing aroma of grilling sausages and sweet smell of cotton candy floating to my nostrils sporadically.

I woke up refreshed, thankful and relaxed and I said to myself ‘Jacqueline, you must indulge in this novelty often enough.’

I doubt if it will ever grow stale to just step back for a few hours and just be without the undue pressure that we put on ourselves trying to meet all manners of deadlines.

To more novelty and reading novels 🙂

Witching Hour – Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Challenge

The big old grandfathers’ clock struck midnight
The witching hour crept by
hearts raced under the blanket in terror.

A distant howl tore into the silent night
the creepy crawlies salivated greedily
racing to plant their fangs’ in frenzy.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

What stays in? Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

I am half-awake, floating in and out of sleepiness with random streams of thoughts parading in and out of my mind in a sporadic fashion. My mind is besieged by many things outlined on my to-do list and I make a mental note to look at each with more perceptive eyes.

What stays in and what gets weeded out or shoved to the bottom of the list?

Arrgh! I feel like opening up the lid of my thoughts to let out some steam and to let in some fresh relief. 24 hours seem not enough these days – once the Sun comes out, the day races past and before you can say Jumping Jimminikins – it’s night time.

I read somewhere that sometimes you should find a spare space where you can scream at nothing and no one, but just to let the pent up emotions out. I think that should be fun.

Now back to my rambling thoughts, work on fresh posts for my new site, write my SoCS, curate photos for the gallery that I’m setting up, cook some porridge beans, socialize a bit online, listen to the news with half an ear, fill out some affiliate forms online, go for grocery shopping, write a chapter in my book, ……endless blah, blah, blah

Nothing that I can chuck out for now, apparently everything stays in.

Oh well, let me go and say hello to my guests at my Blog-O-Ween party. Are you stepping into my party? Come and check it out 🙂

Linda gave us the prompt of in/out for today’s SoCS and all I could think of are the thoughts dancing in and out of my head. You could join SoCS.

Rononvan's Weekly Haiku Challenge

Love – Ronovan writes weekly haiku challenge

When I saw Ronovans’ prompt for this week’s haiku, ‘heart and petals,’ my romantic thoughts drifted to love. I am a die-hard romantic realist – whatever that means. Ha, ha 😉

Heart-shaped petals

honeymoon is underway.

You laid petals for me,
my heart you captured
with actions of pure love.

Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

This is my Hood! Stream of Consciousness Saturday.

Hot copious cups of cheap Nescafe wakes up my foggy brain cells. Sometimes, I wonder how on Earth this super machine of the brain functions, with a million thoughts and ideas buzzing in and out at the same time and not combusting. socsbadge2016-17

I have never been able to stay on one singular thought for as long as I can remember and I believe that this frenetic energy of buzzing thoughts increased with adulting, motherhood, wifedom, and my writing life.

Hovering over my shoulder while on the kitchen’s hot plate flipping pancakes, my muse whispers the beginning of a plot that keeps running away from the lines once I sit down to write, my trio are all talking at the same time to me, of course my superpowers enable me to hear each person, resolve their questions, whip up impeccable omelet for dear Himself and commune with my buzzing muse all at the same time.

How on Earth have I managed not to run off with the raggle-taggle band of gypsies to Never, Never Land, where we never grow old, never have to deal with an escape artist of a muse, a demanding brood of hungry children whose bellies seem to gobble the pancakes so fast, yet their pleading eyes’ keep asking for more?

For want of an explanation, I believe it’s because this is my hood, and I’m in charge. Join me for a hot cuppa of cheap coffee 🙂

Linda’s prompt for today’s’ SoCS is a to find a word with the two letter ‘ho,’ and I can’t help but slip in a Ho,Ho,Ho, it will soon be Christmas time 😉

An exciting pair of words ‘Hunter & Moon,’ from Ronovan for our weekly haiku. Do you take part in any haiku challenge? Give it a thought.

he sensed her presence from miles away,
it’s a full moon tonight.

Facing The Screen – Stream of Consciousness Saturday

I think that I may need to look into anti-glare for my laptop screen because it hurts my eyes at times, but I am not going to dwell on that right now ‘cos I’ve got to write in a hurry before I rush off to a last minute dress rehearsals.socsbadge2016-17

The Stream of Consciousness prompt for today, ‘screen’ brings the thought of the fashion show that I am participating in today to my mind.

I am almost as jumpy as a cat and have asked myself a thousand times if I thought through this very well before deciding to jump on a modelling wagon.

There will be lots of paparazzi camera screens capturing our wobbly strut down the ramp for providence and you know the screen of the camera can be merciless in picking up every stumble that you make.

Now wish me luck as I put on my game face to face all the intruding screens and hope to walk a straight line without melting into a nervous puddle. I will share my daring venture with you once I survive it 😉

Challenges

Thank You and An Open Invitation.

Image result for thank you images

Almost remiss of me, I duly apologise for the delay in publishing this post. My life has been a rat race of late that each day I fall into bed all tuckered out.

I would like to thank all my dear blogger friends who made my last blog party rock. You guy’s know how to make a girl happy and some of you do have good dance steps 😉

I sincerely appreciate the support that I receive in this place from all of you.

For those who were unable to attend the monthly shindig, here’s the link to the party. There are loads of bloggers in there waiting to say hello to you. Do take a peek.

When you read the numbers upside down, the answer to the party riddle is: BILL IS BOSS HE SELLS OIL.

NOW, to the interesting new thing coming up. You may be aware that The Writers’ Quote Wednesday which was primarily hosted by our amiable blogger Mistress, Colleen of Silver Threading and Ronovan, has been discontinued due to other exigencies.

However, with Colleen’s blessings, Bernadette of Haddon’s Musings and I have decided to pick up the Writers Quote baton because it is such an interesting series and it would be a shame to let it go.

Here’s the thing, we are looking for 2 more coordinators to join us in running this weekly series. Each week, a coordinator will give us a prompt word to work with, this way there’ll be four of us running the series as a team; it makes it more fun and lessens the burden when it’s just one coordinator.

Let me know if you are interested and what your thoughts are with regards to this. There are no hard and fast rules about the particular day that it should run, though the weekdays Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are preferable.

When we get other coordinators, the rules of engagement will be published and we hope to take off in November.

The intent of the writers’ quote series is to inspire your writing. You are free to write whatever you like based on the given prompt, but you must include your quote with your piece. You could write a story – preferably flash fiction,  poetry, music or even share songs.

This is an open invitation to all interested bloggers. Let’s keep the ink flowing. Hope to hear from you.

Jacqueline and Bernadette

Rononvan's Weekly Haiku Challenge

Don’t Give Up – Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Challenge

Ronovan gives us an interesting pair ‘reward & trial, for this week’s Haiku. Who amongst us hasn’t gone through trying moments and also experienced the elation of rewards for sticking to it till the end? That’s the story of life.

Without trials, there’s no triumph
without labour, no rewards
they go hand in hand.

Rewards gained from your labour
is the sweet success that follows
your tedious trials and tribulations.

Don’t give up yet!
For at the end of each trial
comes a just reward.
