CAUTION is the watchword!

With the continued rise of opportunities presented by the digital world, and the plethora of platforms offering space and opportunities for people to earn a living from the comfort of their homes, freelancing platforms have multiplied with a multitude of freelancers flocking to such sites to showcase their skills and outbid their contemporaries.

Simultaneously, these sites that attract skilled freelancers are equally a hotbed for scammers. You must thread with caution. You must never be too eager to dive into unverified quarters. Please, remember that offering your services out there requires a lot of pros and cons. Ensure that you evaluate the risk, the cost, the investment goals, your experience and other factors. Where necessary, do due diligence of conducting deep research before venturing.

Be mindful about shadowy organizations and people that you meet online. Do not engage in financial activities with people or organizations that you don’t know or can’t verify. Do not disclose your financial details to anyone. Do not share your account information, document identification numbers or other confidential information. Do not trust projects that promise unusually high profits and never ever pay money in advance to anyone requesting such as ‘stipulated fee’ needed to be paid before they can release your payment.

A younger and enthusiastic friend of mine almost got caught in this silly trap but was smart enough to ask me if I ever encountered a writing service situation where the buyer/customer expects you to pay for Tax/VAT upfront before they can release payment for services rendered. Of course, I told her that she was just on verge of being scammed and to decline such nonsensical request. She asked them to deduct whatever fees they needed and send the balance, but that didn’t happen and it was a stalemate. She only lost the time and tedium spent carrying out a fake request. Sadly, these mean folks infiltrate genuine sites and apps and waste people’s time. You really need to be careful out there!

I love it when you decorate my heart with your words..
