Why I put my stats in my face…personal thoughts about blogging.

When I started blogging, I used to  agonize over my blog stats so, I’m not going to tell you one big fat lie that it didn’t mean anything to me; it did at that point.

Then, it started taking a center of focus which was anti what I wanted and my objectives.

I want to be able to do my blog posts without thinking for one second if the views would go out of the roof or not.

I didn’t want to lose sight of my main reasons for starting this journey in the first place and that’s to connect with like minded people, whilst nurturing my passion for writing.

Bothering over stats was such a joy-killer.

Even though hundreds of views mattered, it was not my primary goal. If the art of blogging wouldn’t lead me to the road of achieving my writing goals, why then should I bother over stats?

So I put my stats right in my face where I see it every second that I log on to my blog and bingo! I stopped agonizing over it.

I stopped poring over the figures and wasting God-given precious seconds trying to understand how and why and who and what and all the innumerable reasons why someone read xyz that I wrote and the jargon of search terms that one could find.

I just wasn’t about to start writing out of context and playing an orchestra that was tuneless.

The Lesson in this and note to self is, don’t lose sight of your blogging objectives.

Make sure you are enjoying the experience as you keep to your primary objectives. That’s what really keeps you going.

  5. That is one thing I had to learn the hard way. At first, no one liked or commented, it felt devastating. But I chose to get involved more than worry about stats. It has paid off. I just inted to build myself, then someone out there will find me relevant instead of weeping over the low stats.

  6. Stats are important, but at the same time they don’t matter as they don’t reveal how much the blogger/writer is talented and creative.
    I write for the passion of writing and mainly for myself.

    Lol… Story of my life, I can relate so well with this. 😀

    I used to obsess over my blog stats too, it was the first thing I’d see in the morning and last thing I’d see at night. Then I learned that it was better to focus on my content. An audience will enjoy articles that they find engaging.

    I agree with you, it’s best to make sure that one is enjoying their blogging experience or else it becomes a chore.

    We live, we learn, that’s the beauty of life.

  9. Blog stats…..a pain in the “you know where”. lately, I was worried about what happen to my stats, it was as if it spiralled downwards, it became a bother, but then I started reviewing the reasons why I Started to blog, I just wanted to write my heart out,regardless of who or why .
    Now, I am getting past the anguish small small, but e no easy sha!
    Its the content that matters, and if one person is touched by it, that should make me content! .. I hope :D.

    1. You got it right. Sometimes with all our responsibilities, we can’t keep up with all the needed attention that blogging requires, so it’s really futile for one to get worked up over stats.

  10. You’re so right. It’s easy to get obsessed about stats, especially when you’re just starting out to blog like me.
    I’ve been reading all these blogs to learn and that is, of course, where you’ll read things like “if you’re followers haven’t doubled by specific amount of time, you’re doing it wrong”. But then, I’m not here trying to build up a million dollar business but to write about poetry. Ha! 😀 It was nice to read your honest post about this. 🙂

  17. I wasn’t too interested in my stats and stats are still not my objective. However, due to what I am seeing on LinkedIn, I understand why stats can be a major factor to a writer. Now, that I publish on beBee, stats have become more important to me. I use stats as a learning tool as to what works best for me. With that said, I don’t stress over stats, I learn from from them.

  18. Yes, Jacque, I believe you have arrived at a place where you can securely ignore your stats. I just checked your little likes above – 66. If I had that… hum. I’d rest in peace, too! Am I envious? Yes and no. I probably spend six hours a day on my thirty/forty views per day. I don’t really want to pay the price for more. Besides I like being able to recognize all my little icons representing people I know. Some of us just have smaller/slower computers than others. And then some of us just have smaller/slower brains than others. 😀 😀 People like you just amaze me! I’m so glad to know you, and I love coming to your blog to pick up new friends. It’s the greatest blogging mine I know of!

    1. I adding on to my own space. Getting ready to sign off so checked my stats. 52 visitors, 91 views, 39 likes. Pretty good for me. But I posted twice. Just goes to prove if I want more, I gotta work more. Well that’s not so bad when I enjoy “work” this much. Good night, all.
