Beach Bums…

Zanzibar - Kempinski

I am not a beach bum but I love spending time by the beach side. Soaking in the lovely sea breeze that lulls you to sleep on the chair.

Running in the surf’s spray and dipping my toes in the water is particularly soothing, though the sand has a way of getting in nooks and unexpected crannies.

Coincidentally, it’s a long weekend in UAE as today is a public holiday, so we plan to spend time tomorrow morning at Jumeirah beach before the sun gets too hot.

It can be wickedly hot in this place, but for now, the rays are still kind to us.

I have a big beach bag that I plunk in all sorts of stuff, from my sunglasses to headphones, blue tooth loud speaker for music, sunscreen, water, serviettes, the large book that I am currently reading A Prisoner of Birth by Jeffrey Archer. A fantastic and compulsive 600+ pages read.

Maybe I’ll do a book review after, but does Archer need a review? I doubt it.

I’ve got Summer on my mind once the children get through their exams by the end on the month. Yippeee!  🙂

Out of the silent breath

Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha’s poems portray images that stare us right in the face. Images of love, joy, death, pain, challenges, violation, and freedom. She writes in a language that’s rich in imagery, earthy, honest, vulnerable, yet full of the promise of hope, of loving and of Grace. A collection of light and dark soulful prose.

      1. I spend most of my time writing and since The Internet is my publishing medium, it feels weird when I’m not on a writing project. I should relax more but I can’t seem to work it into my daily schedule. 🙂

      2. Some say that I’m too hard on myself but I love what I do so pushing myself isn’t a burden. I’ve also been writing for a long time so I hardly notice. 🙂

      3. It’s become part of your intrinsic nature. I like that. I am sure when your body is tired it will tell you to give it a break, or your muse will run away for a bit of vacation making you follow her/him along 😉

  1. Nice blog, great colours. I envy you, hanging out on a beach but not your reading material. He doesn’t need a review, he needs a full frontal lobotomy. Ok, that’s a bit harsh but seriously, if you enjoy J. Archer, read them and I say ‘them’ because I don’t believe for a minute he has written a full novel in his life. He comes up with an idea, hires a team of writers and they lash it out. Oh, this is harsh, I know and I’m sorry. It’s hardly decorating your heart with my words, more like spitting spikes at you but then, you did mention Jeffrey Archer. I’m going to follow your blog because you paid a visit to my Down on the Beach blog, so thank you for that and enjoy your day on the beach

    1. Thank you Dermott. Wow! I guess these big authors can afford to sip margarita and hire ghostwriters to do their work for them. You are not being harsh but educating me on what happens in the writing circle. Sometimes, when I read books from big authors, I always pause to marvel, but then again, I learn a lot as well from reading them. Thank you for the follow. I followed you back and I do hope to enjoy being a beach bum. Have a great weekend ahead.

      1. Unfortunately, that piece was in response to a Daily Prompt and it was a memory of another time. Indeed, another reader noted I mentioned a 99 which was what we called an ice cream in a cornet with a Cadbury’s flake chocolate in it. They havent been around since Jesus was a child. I might suggest, if you have an IPad and access to the internet while on the beach, that you mine my archives and read some stories. There’s plenty of them and I guarantee they’re more entertaining than the phoney Lord, Mr Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less. Enjoy. Rant Over. Move along, Nothing to see over here

  2. Nooks & crannies 🙂 Sometimes finding more sand a couple days later still. Silly sand!

I/we miss the beach Jacqueline. BTW – I noticed you mentioned the kids. Would you like to adopt a really big one? I’ll take out the trash and do the dishes with no questions asked 😉

On a more serious side… We are really trying to find our way back to the surf and sand. From our current location the closest beach is approx 10 hours away. That is quite a distance compared to our previous 45 minute drive when we were still in California. Silke and I are both water people so it just makes sense to get our fannies back to the sea ASAP!

    Y’all have a great time 🙂

    With Love,
    Mr. Jealous

    1. You are already so well trained that I don’t mind adopting you anytime. Wow! 10 hours is a long way away to the beach. All the best with finding your fannies back to sea. I can imagine how much you miss them. Thank you, Damon and regards to Silke. Don’t be too jealous. You are invited to come along next time 🙂

      1. What do you mean “Well (as I’m panting like a dog) trained?” Don’t you think that’s a little Ruff Ruff? Whateva… Like throw me a bone or something 🙂

I really needed 2 things to make it through this day… First up: to crack a smile. Secondly: Some heartfelt laughter. You assisted me with both sweetheart. Thank you and have yourself a wondrous day!
