So I earned 34 cents and more than a 1,000 posts!

Should I rant? Shouldn’t I?

I had no idea that I had hit 1,000 posts on this blog which I started precisely eleven months ago. Actually, this will be my 1,022 (one thousand and twenty-second post).

For some reason, I kept plugging away without taking note of the numbers. I have been weaning myself from stats bingeing. Stats are important quite alright, but I don’t want it to rule my mind.

WordPress what gives with the lack of notification these days? :/

My thought is that 1,000 posts is a milestone in blog-land and would have loved to know for knowing sake.

Gosh, that alone tells me how much I have written in this space in such a space of time especially given the fact that 99.9% of my posts,  aren’t reblog and are written fresh off the printing mill in my head, except for photos which are also taken by me.

This girl’s got a lot to say. Oh well, let me say a belated YAY to me and NAY to WordPress!

Now, on to the matter that made me laugh out real loud.

I know some may wonder why I talk about money, so just in case you need to know, ‘money is the oil that runs the machinery of most of our basic needs in life and I, Jacqueline Oby-Ikocha, would like to earn some income from the hard work of my fingers.’

In February, I applied to have WordAds included on my site given that my site is a premium site and after their background check or whatever it is they do, it was approved and I promised to speak out on how it goes.

Interesting to know that for that month with 16,000 views, I had 3,449 impressions (whatever that means) and thus earned 34 CENTS. What a hoot!

Now, in all fairness to the man who told that he sucks some time ago, I understand better now why you were fixated with your stats.

I have no plans to get stuck in the bog of stats and peanuts, so there’s got to be better ways and it’s a nut that I must crack.

  1. Wow, Jacqueline! I went to the “he sucks” post and left a comment. You’re a rock star with 34cents. Seriously, a lot of singers don’t earn that much from 1 million plays on Spotify. When you think about it, you’re more successful than most of them. Cheers! xo

  2. You can go to google adsense and find out roughly how much you could make there per 1000 views of their ads. I found I needed about 3000 – 5000 views a month to make it feel at least worthwhile as a hobby. Some keywords were worth more than others. (That was 5 years ago, and it may have all changed by now)

      1. No. WordPress.com does not allow it, and if they do I think they take a chunk of the profits. I can’t remember the details, you need to look it up. If you want to use adsense I suggest you migrate to a wordpress host like hostgator, etc

  3. Hahahaha, 34 cents are quite something i may say :p but believe me, if it was my call, i would’ve given you 34000$ for the posts you share, not just 34 cents 🙂
You’re one of my favorites!! (Guess you already know that ! 😛 )

  4. Do you have to attach some sort of payment system to get money? I guess you would have to have a lot of followers or views to even think about getting laid for blogging, n’est-c’est pas? Anyways, congrats on the milestone. I, too, enjoy your blog and your writing and pictures.

    1. Yes indeed you have to get a certain number of views to get paid. If they approve to put that on your blog (except a blog is a free site then they can use it at will) you fill out the necessary form and within 24 hours the ads pop up. Thanks dear 🙂

      1. I clicked on your inner link and read about the person who seems unappreciative of meager views. I am grateful for any views I have. I think I have about 46 people following me and I am over the moon! Yes, indeed. Always be humble.

  5. Wow! Wow! Wow! Jacqueline – you have put in a tremendous amount of effort and hard work into your blog. Congratulations on passing the 1000 mark with your posts!
I am so glad you have highlighted WP’s notifications failing. I’ve been blaming myself thinking I have made some admin error that has prevented me from receiving notices and spent valuable time checking my settings and whatnot. There have been new followers/likes about which I only discovered recently by accident.
Anyway, back to your amazing achievement – well done and thank you for giving of your talent, time and thoughts so generously.

    1. Thank you very much for your lovely comment. It’s been an awesome journey so far. I honestly don’t get it with the notifications these days. I observed that a while ago, even the disappearance of my comments at times. I wonder when they will fix the issues. I appreciate your kind support, always. Jacqueline

  6. Congratulations on the 1,000 posts! And, from what I’ve read/seen here, your posts are all worthwhile and entertaining, not just fluff to run up the numbers. Plus, you actually care about your readers, and we notice that, and applaud you! Wonderful!

  7. 1000 posts!! Wow … amazing… I have been a bit lazy these days especially with the socializing part of blogging. I too am weighing the pros and cons of upgrading. Dunno if it is worth it at this point of time. 🙂

  8. Now that’s a huge milestone nne. Well done! Writing 1000 posts in such a short time is no easy feat and in all of that, you’ve got every topic covered – poetic thoughts, tourism – read Echoes, relationships, inspiration, name it!

And congrats on your first earning. Your very first “stats reward”. Sure feels good! There’s always a starting point but biko look well dear, maybe they keep the dollars separate from the cents. 🙂 Every ad company has its own cost per mil that they offer but that is quite low for the number of impressions you had for that period. I often see video ads when I visit your site and those pay more than image ads, per ad industry standards.

We must explore those other options o! You are doing a great job with your blog Jackie and you deserve every blessing that comes from it now and in the future. ❤ ❤

      1. My site has 2 parts, the hard coded side (raw HTML and CSS) and the blog side (wordpress dot org), both self-hosted. Feel free to continue this convo on Facebook so that I can tell you what I know. 🙂

  11. WOW! OVER 1,000 POSTS in eleven months! Now THAT is what I call a GRAND achievement! I myself am trying my very best to blog as much as possible to not only get the traffic I’ve always wanted (And possibly better) but also so that way I can finally say to myself and others that I HAVE achieved something in my life while having autism. It won’t be an easy task for me but guess what? If you can do it, so can I!

Wishing you the best of luck for your blog!
