“Camouflage is a game we all like to play, but our secrets are as surely revealed by what we want to seem to be as by what we conceal.” — Russell Lynes
”I am totally preening with pride.” No, it’s not a camouflage.” ”I am preening because today’s prompt for Writing 101 was humbly offered by me and accepted by Ben Huberman.”
”So I crave your indulgence while I inundate you with poetry 🙂 ”
Are these words that you are uttering,
True expressions of your inner stuttering?
Is that smile pasted on your lips,
Real portrayal of what it seems?
Do these feelings in your eyes,
Mirror the warmth that lies in your hearts?
Are these your reactions,
Real results of those actions?
Or are they as false as a smokescreen,
That serves as camouflage?
For the true emotions that swirl beneath!
The cold feelings of misery,
Yet you smile to mask the pain.
The burning desires of envy,
Yet your lips speak in vain.
Can you strip yourself to see,
Beneath the makeup that we see,
And truly set yourself free!

It’s time for a little game of poetic hide-and-seek with Day 9’s prompt, Camouflage, by the prolific @jacquelineobyikocha.
Jacque, we generally talk of the mask wearer needing to be free of their masks. But I ask myself, do I really want to see each man and woman without their masks. Wouldn’t that be more than I could take? I would feel so incompetent to deal with the problems. Even the first poem about the abused woman. What would my response be? I’m glad I’m not God! As he lets the will of man (and woman) reign in this earth amidst such heartache and pain. Thanks for redeeming grace that still works when all else fails.

You have really said it well Oneta. In the face of the nakedness of peoples humanity, we may not be able to stand the glare of the hurt and the sores. It is only redeeming grace that never fails. Thank you for your words.

I have mixed feelings about hidden emotions. We must compose ourselves to carry out the activities of daily life. We can’t always purge ourselves of the negative emotions, only cope.

That last stanza just hit me. Oh! If only I could remove my make-up. If only you could see the creature beneath! Oooh! Good stuff. 🙂

I am sure a lot of us will have sight issues from all the views of the creatures hidden within.
