Twiddle Dee…Truant Me…personal

Mum, now that I have grown old enough to know better, I am sorry for wasting your funds in the past; this apology was long overdue. Thank you WordPress for reminding me.

You painstakingly paid for several sessions of holiday piano classes with my primary school music teacher, but it seemed like a waste of precious childhood vacation time in my eyes, not when some of my playmates were busy playing hopscotch next door.

So, I hopscotched away my time and never got past clumsily tapping little ditties and the ‘do re mi fa so la ti do’ of piano things.

In simpler terms, I played truant with my piano lessons and I received a thorough telling off, a note-worthy smack and cancelled piano lessons since it appeared that I had no appreciation for the fineness of music.

Who knows, maybe if I had stuck to it, I might have struck the right chord and become a musical child prodigy.

Please don’t dare chuckle when I say that I am now expending my own money trying to play catch up with the piano lessons that I should have learnt back then 😃

However, I am not totally a lost cause, I did learn how to play the flute quite well and it’s not such a bad thing, just that it leaves me breathless.

  3. I love this! As a former music teacher part of what we ask parents is to give the kids a good year to try it. Then decide. Students go through phases of not wanting to practice but teachers can usually help the students get through them if the kids really do have the desire to play. I am so glad you are doing this as an adult.

      1. And write I did , but I’m afraid it might have come out a bit “garbled” – should have learned by now not to hit publish when my head is feeling a bit spacey 😉

  6. Now i am reminded of my one time keyboard lessons that i so woefully failed to go past a few choruses. I can’t even remember what those choruses are anymore. You won’t believe that it was a free unpaid for lesson…! I do have a ting of regret but i have settled down with what i am gifted at in terms of music matter…singing… i love singing and I’ve got a good Alto to back you up anytime if you ever need my services…*wink* Enjoyed reading this post.

    I am not very musical but I recall owning and playing a recorder flute in primary school. I took guitar lessons 4 years ago but I lost interest. I wish I could play the piano.

  10. Good for you, for taking piano lessons! It’s never too late to learn something new. My 8 y/o son has been taking piano lessons since he was 5 and he loves it. He has a really good teacher that he looks forward to spending time with each week.
